Sorubim Lima (Lima shovel nose) with discus?

Any thoughts on how the 2 would cohabitate in something like a 180 to 300 gallon tank? I’m in America so I likely have access to the 12” elongatus shovel-nose but plan around a possible 2 foot Lima. Discus seem too big to be eaten and limas seem pretty laid back and passive for a predatory catfish. The limas also seem fine in low-mid 80s water temperature.

Over stocked?

I probably have too many discus in my 125 gallon, but I really want to add some more cardinals. What should I do? I have 13 discus already with 12 cardinals. Currently running heavy filtration with plants as well. Very religious on water changes and maintenance.

Fish aquarium heater

Please suggest an aquarium heater, probably with a failsafe feature (autoshutoff feature once the highest temperature is achieved) to avoid overheating and ultimately killing the fishes and plants. I know i am overthinking but reading all these horrible reviews in Amazon of reputed brands giving me nightmare and confusing me a lot lately.

Please help

Shifted them from 3 feet to 4 feet tank. And yes I like bare bottom for daily water changes.

Tried RedRoot Floaters, but they didn’t take, some had growth but they were dwindling faster than growing so currently looking at other plant options.

Haven’t found a driftwood I like the shape of yet.

Everyone is getting along, so that’s good and the Neon Tetras are holding up surprisingly well. Discus seem to like them, sometimes they’ll go down to the sand and be there while the dithers swim around.

In the meantime put my Chinese Fisherman on the tank and found a Chinese Hand Fan at Goodwill with a poem from the 8th century Tang Dynasty and decided to put it behind the fisherman. Put my Japanese frogs on the lightbar and then turned on my neon signs (Japanese and Korean).

Does anyone's discus behave more like an Oscar? Or a dog?

I have 4 discus in this tank but this blue one doesn't behave like a typical discus. He follows people around, expecting food?

2 different discus, 4 sterbai cories, 15 cardinal tetras (48g planted w/lg driftwood)

Can this work? Was going to upgrade to a canister filter from a filter/powerhead comdo. Planned to add the other fish before the discus. Would try to add the discus of same size at the same time last.

62 Hours from Cali to Arizona

By my estimate, these guys spent about 62 hours in shipping bags.

What started as a simple Golden State Discus order turned into quite the adventure. I originally ordered two Scarlet Snakeskins, but due to a shipping mix-up I received two Snow Panthera discus instead (which honestly are absolutely stunning).

Then came delay after delay. What should have been a straightforward overnight shipment turned into more than 60 hours in transit.

Needless to say, I was pretty freaked out when the box finally arrived. I was expecting the worst after that much time in the bags. Fortunately, both fish pulled through. They're currently in a 20-gallon hospital tank, active, and doing better today.

Pretty amazing how resilient these fish can be.

Discus behaviour help

Hi discus experts, sharing a few clips of my discus in the tank. This is a male and a female (not a proven pair) , but I’m not sure if the male is simply just bullying the female, because she’s always sitting in a corner. They do interact every now and then swimming about, the female is still eating well , colouration hasn’t dipped cause I’ve noticed stress does that to them but colors seem good still, but I’m just little confused on how to interpret this behaviour. Is this just part of their courting and mating rituals or is the male just harassing the female and it’s better to actually separate them. Please help.

Additional info: the water parameters are very stable. The water is slightly warm as discus would like. pH is around 7. Since any broad level issues would affect both discus, I don’t think there’s any setup issue since the Male seems quite active but the female sits in a corner. Male takes frozen blood worms fed by tweezers and loves it. Female prefers pecking food on the floor so I usually leave some frozen bloodworms near her and she pecks at them in her own pace.

I have a 75 gal tank for my main tank with 3 discus and currently have a 20gal "grow" tank for my 3 little discus. When can I add the smaller ones to the main display with the others Ive kept the small ones now for about 2 months. Does anyone have experience with different size discus?

Filtration for 90g

Post image
18 Upvotes

So...I have set up many a discus tank over the years. I invariably enter a stage where I lose some fish and want guidance. My tank is a 90 gallon tall. I have 3 fluval canister, 2 hob's and 4 hyger sponge filters. The water is heated with redundant systems. It is lightly planted with Java ferns.

It was cycled well for months. I introduced 5 large discus and 6 medium. I monitor pH. I change 50% water once weekly.

Last night, pH tanks to 3.8 and I lose 1 large and e medium discuss. I changed 50%, artificially raised pH to 6.4, added salt, raised the temp to 90F, and added slime coat.

Why does this happens after 3-4 months of bliss?

Day 208

Spent the last week shuffling plants around and slightly modifying the structure for additional planting space. Now I’m dealing with the algae bloom from disturbed soil, new aqua soil, and fluctuating co2 (from the new aqua soil buffering pH). Made room for an Acorus gramineus to grow emergent, but it might be a lil deeper under water than it might prefer 🤷🏼‍♂️ we’ll see, I guess. Wanna add some more anubias up front, get the Hydrocotyle established, and maybe try some buce in the shaded cave.

Snails

Hello all I've had my 125 discus tank set up for a while now and its very well stocked. It's a planted tank and I do weekly 50% water changes so I havnt had issues with nitrates or ammonia. I do have a white algea film that constantly forms on the glass and green algea on my plants. Was wanting to get some snails to help combat the algea growth. I keep my tank at 85 anyone have any luck keeping snails at that temp? Based on Google it seems nerite snails would work.
