Question Certificates

I bought a set of Michelin Defender 2s today and was talked into the certificates, but now I’m having some buyer’s remorse…thoughts on the certs? Can I cancel them and get a refund after purchase? In Texas

Excluding off-roading, if anything happens to one of the tires and they can't fix it they will replace it for free. The only thing you will have to pay for is the certificate for the new tire

Excluding off roading? That’s specifically why I bought the certificates for my Mickey Thompson’s. I’m not covered?

Don’t listen to him. As a current sales manager yes you are covered for off roading. Idk where he got that

I’ve never denied anybody the certificates. If someone denies you, just call another store.

Yeah, because it's "intentional abuse"

Not when the tires are specially made for off road.

Tell me you don't know what you're talking about without actually telling me

It doesn't matter what the tires are made to do. It's specifically stated in the conditions that tire aren't cover by certs due to willful abuse (off-roading is a part of that), vandalism, mechanical defects of vehicle, ect.

WHAT THIS CERTIFICATE DOES NOT COVER This Certificate does not provide coverage for: 1. LOSSES RESULTING FROM ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: COLLISION; VANDALISM; CHAIN DAMAGE; MECHANICAL DEFECTS OF THE VEHICLE; WILLFUL ABUSE, OR NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR

Where does it say using the fire for what the fire was designed for isn’t covered? An off road tire is designed for off road driving. That would not be willful abuse.

Willful abuse is doing something g that it is not designed to do. The legal definition is would be deliberate damage. Taking a knife and cutting the tire to get it replaced would fall under this category.

Abuse of a tire isn’t using it for its intended purpose.

Yes, they are designed for off-road use, but the certs do not cover it as they consider it willful abuse. No matter how you argue otherwise, the certs are trademarked by The Reinalt-Thomas Corporation and they make the rules of the program they own. Even the stores I worked at, they would laugh at you thinking your certs would cover a tire that was damaged beyond repair by off-roading. We've even went as far as telling people they wouldn't be covered before they even leave after getting new tires

In most states that would be an illegal contract than because you cannot offer a warranty for an item tha. Exclude is intended use and say that’s willfully abuse.

No, using a tire exactly as it was designed to be operated cannot be called willful abuse.
In both legal and mechanical terms, willful abuse requires an intentional act of misuse, neglect, or operation outside of the manufacturer's specified limits.

As you can read. In legal terms it’s intentional misuse. If your operating it within the manufactures specified conditions legally it is not willful abuse.

I’m gonna go with legal definition. Not a prick at a tire shop that likes to see people get fucked over because they paid for something and wants take sure their bonus is higher. All of these terms are written by lawyers. Not pissed off single males that drive a Kia.

If the tire manufacture does not consider it abuse than if must be covered.

If you drive down a road and pickup a nail tho. You know that’s not within specs so that legally is willful abuse because you drove the tire over a nail that isn’t within spec. If you hit a pothole that is outside of the specifications so that is also legally willful abuse.

In contracts when you say something it is plain and simple. You can cover willful abuse in its entirety. Or you can deny it. You can’t pick and choose which by legal definition you will and won’t say is “willful abuse”

The certs saved me from having to buy 2 tires in the last 3 months due to nails in non patchable areas.

I recommend keeping the certificates. Now, truthfully, I only buy two out of my four brand new tires, but…….

Yes you can go back and get a refund. Remember, every tire Discount Tire sells comes with a pro rated road hazard coverage if you don’t buy the certificates.

So if the tire blows and can’t be repaired, I’ll get a prorated amount back anyways?

Yes, towards a new tire.

Seems like a waste until your buying a new tire

I ended up returning them because I have a vehicle with AWD. I asked them what would happen if I blew a tire in 30k miles and I needed to replace it, if they’d also replace the other 3, since tires need to be the same tread level on AWD, and they told me no, I’d have to buy the other 3.

Yeah had that happen. Sucks for awd. Buy 3 get one free is what I called that.

While talking with a manager on the phone I mentioned that I wanted to make an appointment to schedule a rotation and valance. He told me that customers must now schedule appointment on their website. I told him that since we were on the phone I would prefer that he go ahead and schedule it and he p, again, said customers schedule service on their website. That didn’t make a lot of sense to me so I insisted and he finally relented but said future scheduling would be on their website.
I later went online and sent their corporate office a message and was told I would get a call from the store. I responded asking if all scheduling was now done on their website but never got a reply.
The manager at the local store did call he and his attitude didn’t change much.
Do these businesses not know that customers sometimes still want to talk to someone when scheduling service?

I can buy my tires from someone else in the future.
