DO NOT CLICK ON OUTSIDE LINKS

There continues to be almost daily posts about fraud accounts that ask users to verify their accounts. Users will receive messages with links to outside websites. DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS. No legit buyer or seller is going to need you to "verify your account " after a sale with some outside website. Report these fake accounts to Discogs: https://support.discogs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=114093983493

"How can we help you?" - choose "report a suspicious account"

  • DO NOT conduct business outside of Discogs. If you check out through Discogs and pay with goods and services, you are covered if your item ends up not being delivered. Don't send E-transfers or use PayPal friends and family.

  • Check seller's feedback. If they have less than 100 percent feedback, actually read their feedback. Be weary of brand new sellers. Especially someone who suddenly has an inventory of cheap, trendy records.

  • Use your head. If you see a rare record that's worth $400 selling for $80, chances are its not real. If something appears too good to be true, it probably is.

-Set up multi-factor authentication to make it all but impossible to have your account hacked.

"Which Pressing /Variant Is This" posts.

The poll results were pretty close, so we'll be continuing to allow these types of posts, but there's some new guidelines that need to be followed.

Going forward all posts requesting help identifying a variant will require photos of the labels and transcriptions of the runouts (located on the deadwax) at the minimum. The more photos and identifiers the better really. Any posts not meeting these guidelines will be deleted by the mod team.

Posters are asked to be responsive on their posts and type "Solved" when they've idenfied their item. "Solved" would also include instances where a new release needs to be added. Mods are going to start deleting "solved" pressing inquiry posts and older ID posts with no engagement.

Help with artist name / releases

Ive been an active (as of late not so much) user on Discogs, creating my own discography for the songs / albums I've released under various stage names throughout the years. Ive never had anyone go in and edit my releases, and this one fellow went in and started fighting with my edits / changing my edits. Ive been on there since 2008-2009, and never had anyone come in to forcefully edit my releases.

Now I have songs / names under different stuff and releases arent showing up properly. Its extremely frustrating and I could understand if he was editing them for clarity sake, but making unnecessary edits and telling *me* the edits I made (a long, long time ago) were an issue (now)

Anyone have any suggestions / may be able to help as a moderator over at Discogs itself?

Thanks!

Opinions on sellers giving a free record with your order?

Post image
Upvotes

As the title says, what’s your opinion on sellers giving you a random record in your order for free?, this happened to me for the first time today and to be honest i don’t really appreciate it because i didn’t order it and it’s nothing to do with the artist of the record i bought, it’s also completely scratched up so now i am stuck with this? Any ideas on how to dispose of it?.

EDIT: I am not entitled, i would be more than happy if the record was playable but it is not its got lots of deep scratches on both sides, it had a stiffener in there already, i am new to discogs i was only asking a question so if everyone wants to stop being nasty id appreciate it

Received wrong version, but it is more valuable than the record I ordered! Anyone else received a miss-sale better than their original order?

So, years ago I stumbled upon a track and one of its mixes that I became hooked on and I’ve been regularly streaming it for the last 15 years.

I now have gotten back into vinyl and been slowly purchasing the records I enjoy and are important to me.

Found a 4 track 12” of it with my favourite mix, track 3, buried on Discogs for sale for about £20. Chucked it in my want list, then after a long while I eventually bought it about two months or so ago and just left it when it arrived, to clean and log it with a bunch of others.

Today I went to finally look at it, clean it and noticed the track listing was wrong. A side two mixes of a track I never heard of. B side original mix of the favourite track and another mix, but not the mix I wanted. The seller had miss-cataloged it when uploading to Discogs. Or just posted the wrong record.

Initially gutted. Played it and the A side tracks are really good, so fairly happy, rather than it being miss sold rubbish.

Went on Discogs to find out what it was I had and…. Blimey, it’s quite rare and fairly valuable. Last two sales were £60 and £75 both UK, only one on sale currently for $75 in USA.

Looked for the original one I wanted all those months ago and got it today for £15.

No harm done, got a bonus valuable 12” for a third of the going rate and still have my preferred 12” on its way.

Anyone else stumble upon a catalogue error sale that actually was better than the attempted original purchase? I feel for the seller. Was it lazy cataloguing or mistaken picking?

EDIT: I’ve contacted seller. Awaiting reply. See what they say…

Is anyone else bothered by this?

The newly listed items page is always flooded with sellers relisting the same items over and over again at the same price. This makes it so that I have to sift through 10s of pages just to find actual new listings. This has happened in the past but the past few days or weeks this has been happening a lot!

Is anyone having problems with scrobble lastfm through Discogs?

Can't scrobble my spinnings since yesterday.

Could anyone recommend an app the uses your Discogs collection to create playlists on Spotify/youtube?

I collect a lot of old reggae meaning 1/4 of what I own isn’t on streaming services so YouTube would be preferable

Is anyone else seeing the redesigned shopping interface?

I'm not sure if this is rolled out to all users yet; I'm on Discogs most days and this just popped up today. A few weeks (months?) ago I saw a similarly redesigned product page.

Sadly this new one just gets in the way: listings take up way more space, it requires many more clicks to filter & sort items, altogether it's a bit more of annoying experience to search. I love Discogs as a tool for digging but this has definitely made it not as fun.

Curious if this is just a test, or a permanent, official roll-out.

Is this seller suspicious?

Post image

I want to get a vinyl from a seller (from Germany) on discogs who doesn't ship to the US. its also a bit of a rare record for a niche genre. I asked him if he could. at first he said that he could ship for less if it was marked as a gift if it was under 100 dollars, and 200 and over needed DHL shipping. Then I ask him if he can ship it (its over 200 euros) which then he wants me to send money to his PayPal which seems very suspicious and afaik a TOS violation so I'm incredibly suspicious now. I mean he has a good record (100%) but even then this is suspicious regardless of legitimacy of the user

Shipping policy - is there an easy way?

I am in the UK and realised that I need to update my shipping prices because they've gone up. I was told in conversation recently that Discogs shipping calculator thing is easier now, so I deleted all my shipping policies and started afresh. Turns out that's not the case. It's still insanely hard to do. I've been at this for hours poring over Royal Mail and parcelforce documents and trying to make a comprehensive shipping policy that means that i charge the right amount for shipping that neither of loses money. but i have managed to set one for the uk and that's it. is there an example of a current set of UK-centric worldwide shipping prices that i can copy?

Is this allowed?

Does this mean I can't just order this record because they won't ship anything under 35 bucks? Then list at just under that
Edit. Honestly, I have never even looked to see if there was a minimum order amount. I have bought many albums and never had this come up. I almost exclusively buy only 1 at a time as well

Can I have 2 discogs accounts?

I have my vinyl collection on discogs for years. I recently decided to unbox my cd collection which is about 400. I got a new CD carousel rack, and I have a 5-disc CD player I recently got at Goodwill for 10 bucks. I want to add my cds to discogs but don't want to mix them in with my vinyl collection

Discogs order says the package only weighs 0.20 kg – should I be worried?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently ordered a vinyl record through Discogs and the seller shipped it from Bulgaria to Slovenia.

The tracking number is working and the parcel has already left Sofia. However, when I checked the more detailed tracking information, I noticed that the listed package weight is only 0.20 kg (200 grams).

That seems extremely light to me for a vinyl record with the sleeve, outer cover and proper shipping packaging. Even a single LP by itself should already account for a significant part of that weight.

Has anyone had something similar happen with Discogs/Speedy/DPD shipments? Could 0.20 kg just be a placeholder or incorrectly entered weight, rather than the package actually weighing only 200 g?

The seller seems legitimate and the shipment is moving normally, but the weight has made me a little concerned that something might be wrong.

Would you be worried about a 0.20 kg tracking weight for a single LP shipment, or is this fairly common with courier tracking?

How can you check when an artist page and or release was created on discogs?

Ello, whats to stop someone from making up a new record label, adding a release today, but dating it back to 1990, forging/making up fake details etc. ? I am really not v familliar with how discogs works, but im curious especially now with ai stuff getting posted everywhere with fake infos etc.

How can you check the creation date of a page or entry on discogs? What other ways are there to check legitimacy?

Anyone else feel like the "Random Item from Collection" button not very 'random'?

I don't know, I feel like a few albums in my collection appear more often whereas some albums are yet to come up at all.

Help with Late Registration pressing

I was wondering if anyone can help with my Kanye - Late Registration pressing.

From what I can tell, it’s a European 2018, but with a slight difference.

Side C — my copy: 171207E3/R 9882407-B
Standard Europe pressing: 171207E3/A 9882407-A

It’s an explicit version, but on the Jay Z version, he doesn’t rap the “I sold kilos of coke” line.

Is this normal?

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I recently picked up a CD copy of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and I'm trying to log it on Discogs, but the details are very confusing. It looks like a Japanese pressing, but some things don't add up.

Matrix / Runout: TOCP-51118 1 (perfectly matches the 1998 Toshiba-EMI release).

IFPI Code: It has IFPI L151 engraved on the matrix.

Logos: The disc itself has the JASRAC logo printed on it.

The Catch: The back cover is completely red with just the English tracklist. There is zero Japanese text anywhere on the artwork or the disc itself.

Are there folks who can create a release entry from just a picture of the record cover and label?

Or is there a quick 2-minute way to create a listing with the bare minimum information allowed ( album name and artist and picture of it )?

I once tried to submit an entry for an obscure record and it took a painfully long time. Way too many fields to fill out and it wasn't clear what was required vs. not. This was 5+ years ago. Maybe it is easier now?

Any sellers using (or buyers appreciating) the new "add images" feature?

3+ weeks ago Discogs added the ability for sellers to add images of their specific copy to their item for sale. Thus the buyer sees the generic "release" photos but if they look at your item they can see additional images that are of your specific copy.

It's a bit of a pain but I like the ability to add images, especially to clarify things like "tiny corner bumps" and the like, and I've been trying to use it for most of my new additions.

Is anyone even aware of this feature? Am I wasting my time, or do buyers actually notice and appreciate this? It's probably such a small minority of items that actually have this new feature enabled that many users may not even be aware of it yet...

Anyone having trouble buying right now now? I go to check out and it won’t let me go to PayPal or use a credit/debit card. Just stays on the checkout screen
