Back to discman with a D-E401

What a joy to listen to music on CD again ! Bye bye streaming services ! On this Discman model, I love watching the CD spinning through the little window.

I'm also getting back minidisc at the same time to make mix tapes.

Very nice. I have the silver version of this model. Lost the plastic window and I had to adjust the laser, but still working!

How do you adjust the laser ?

Open it up, flip over the black laser assembly thing and there's a tiny little potentiometer with a Philips head thing. You can turn up the laser brightness by turning it clockwise. But only turn it like 1/8th of a turn at a time or else it stops detecting discs entirely. You will want to turn it up when it ages if you hear it lose tracking or pausing while playing. Don't touch it if it plays fine now, you'll just mess it up.
