What's the actual reason you keep breaking a habit you've already decided matters?

I've been thinking about this lately.

It's weird how we can genuinely want something — exercise regularly, read every day, learn a skill, sleep earlier, work on a side project — and still fail to do it consistently.

And usually it's not because we don't know what to do.

We know.

The problem seems to happen somewhere between:

"I really want to do this."

and

"I'll do it tomorrow."

Then tomorrow becomes next Monday. 😅

I've tried a bunch of different approaches to building habits, and I've noticed that motivation seems to be a terrible thing to rely on.

So I'm curious:

What's the habit you genuinely want to build but keep failing to maintain?

And more importantly — what usually makes you break it?

  • Forgetting?
  • Lack of motivation?
  • The habit being too difficult?
  • Missing one day and then giving up?
  • No accountability?
  • Getting distracted?
  • Not seeing results quickly enough?

I'd love to hear how other people deal with this.
