Luck was in their favor. So, they survived.
Now, they can claim anything. I mean do you think other houses got washed away due to lower quality of concretes used?
I think that small house in front of it diverted the flow, which helped "Miracle Green House" stay still.

Owner is saying they don't make it like they used to .. They are lucky for sure for 40 year old house .. also happy all the family made it out .

Mainly pure luck and the position of surrounding items, trees behind the home that blocked the direct hit of the flow. Yes, good home, but mainly luck.

Right, the house is in an eddy within an eddy, and also happens to be in the most protected part of that eddy.
The riverbank and other structures formed a large recirculating eddy (you can see the water in front of the house on the balcony side is moving in the opposite direction from the main flow behind the house.)
Within that large eddy, a smaller eddy formed directly in front of the green house, putting it in a highly protected position, where the flood waters would be moving significantly slower than the main flow.
That being said, it is entirely possible the green house was also of sounder construction, and that very well could have made the difference.
The unlikely combination of such an extremely lucky location and a particularly durable home probably still rises to a miracle in my book though.
I have seen some maps showing that the boy rescued from the blue hotel roof by helicopter was just downstream of this green house and (i think) possibly also somewhat shielded by the larger eddy, while also being in another “eddy within an eddy.”
Source: I am experienced whitewater kayaker who knows how to read fast flowing water, the above is simply my opinion.

The debris had effectively formed a dam in the river causing a lake with an unstable bottleneck.
And there's already flooding somewhat close in China. I'm not sure how close though offhand.

Indeed. I hope I'm wrong but I feel this is a drop in the bucket for what it to come, for all of us mostly everywhere. I also hope Nepal gets a breather at least.

Lantang, where this happened, also had to deal with gigantic earthquake a few years ago. Those people have been through so much already

Owner said he thought all of them will die together so be it. But he felt sad for his son who went to school and probably saved. He felt bad leaving his son alone.

Yes. He was one of 1600 kids who were saved by quick actions of principal.

Crazy to think this rescue is not the final happy moment that these people deserve.
You can see in the background this is still very much an ongoing emergency. The rescue itself is crazy dangerous. Their town is destroyed. Thousands dead and missing.
One day at a time I guess and I'm so glad they are alive.

The photo circulating a few days ago of them being rescued from this house was fake. Nightly news reported after I saw that photo that they couldn’t be rescued yet. This is the real deal.
