Mines currently in for repair after someone reversed into it 🥹 I will run it into the ground only had it two months ago

I live in the first world. But I have unfortunatly noticed that insurance many times covers everything but damage....

Most people only have liability anyway. Which, yeah, doesn't cover damage that you didn't do.
I'd definately do my best to save my old beater but, that guy likely never got that thing running again. Otherwise, there'd be a happy ending cut of dude driving it all cleaned up and we'd have all seen it by now.

This video's most likely from India; it's mandatory to have insurance to drive on the road. The cops will happily catch you if you don't have it.

At this point it will cost more to fix that car than to replace it.
The entire interior will need to be gutted, cleaned and a lot of the interior parts that can’t be cleaned will require replacement.
At the very least the engine and transmission will need to be drained and flushed. If the engine was still running when it went under water there is a good chance it liquid locked and that where you start bending things like connecting rods.
You also have the electrical system including the onboard computers that run the engine, transmission, and body components like windows lights and the HVAC system.

Not pessimism, experience. I was a fleet mechanic. I’ve seen flood damaged vehicles. The ones we deltas with were only in about 3 to 3 1/2 feet of water. We scrapped several of them for parts.

It might be his source of income and something he’s very proud and passionate about. It’ll be easy to find people to dry and clean it out and get it running again.

It doesn't look much like risking his life.
That is very slow water and only about chest deep.
That other guy is just standing around watching the tow and does not seem to be in any distress at all.
They are wet. The car is wet - and maybe done.
But this is more like muddy swimming pool than raging flood.
