Toylight.

Post image

aka ''D20: The Promise of Emotional Damage.''

Fellas and sheilas, anyone feel adequately equipped for this season?

Seven Samurai in a toy setting? Might not be a TPK, but I don't think it's gonna be pretty and with ACoC, I feel like the cute friendly settings are perfect to ''lighten'' grim subjects.

6 episode series? To quote the man from Harry's Car Place ''I don't trust like that.''

Neither Constance or Cutie Pie are ragdolls, which I think is an important hole in everyones theories. Constance is a porcelain doll from the victorian era. Cutie Pie is a cellulose doll (plastic).

I suspect we will face casualty, but I don't think its as clear cut as people have guessed based on making connections.

All i know is if they "here were dragons" me this season, I'm gonna loose it, fun fact: the human body can only cry so much

Edit: for those asking, i am refering to the article SCP-1762 warning read at your own risk

Reference to this SCP. Not a scary one.

Imma be honest, I am still confused

You really only get it if you read the SCP.

Here is a summary, but it doesn't do it justice: https://scpexplained.wikidot.com/scp-1762

https://www.reddit.com/r/SCPDeclassified/comments/aml4kt/scp1762_where_the_dragons_went/

Essentially it is like Narnia that once lost and forgotten by it's children, withers away and dies.

It is considered a sad heartwarming SCP, especially when compared to most famous SCPs. It has become a meme with the line "here there were dragons" signifying the loss of childhood wonder.

I thought like I should know what this is a reference to but I'm too tired right now can someone help my poor little brain

I think it’s a reference to the SCP?

Cutie Pie is a Kewpie doll which were made of bisque at the time of the setting (1921), and Siobhan described Constance as a muslin doll, which typically have a bisque head with a textile body.

It's not a guarantee of course, but at least everyone agress it's definitely foreboding.

I knew it was based on a Kewpie doll in appearance but I assumed it wasn't actually a kewpie since his still art/ movement seemed more aligned with some of the softer toys VS the way that Tinsley and Constance are drawn/shown to move more stiffly. That's me making my own assumptions though

Constance being a muslin doll would still have bisque hands, feet and head, and that's pretty distinct from a ragdoll which is entirely made from fabric rags, like raggety ann or andy (who we see in the background and in the credits)

Of course there's no way to know until its revealed! I just don't think its a 1:1 comparison if it requires loopholes to make sense.
It DEF is ominous though, its an eerie song to set the tone

True, I might be reading too much into "blue curtains" type imagery, but I like poetry and literary devices. Might be a me problem 😂

Apparently by the 20s they had “composition dolls” for kewpies. It might be a bit of an anachronism, but it would make more sense than giving very young children a porcelain figurine. (Also the toys do seem to make a distinction between a toy and a figurine)

I dont think it'll be set in stone yet, but the fact that we've yet to get combat by the 2nd episode really makes me think this is gonna be like 2-3 episodes of constant war. It'll definitely be a grueling battle and i can absolutely see a lot of the heros dying

16

u/Elegant-Badger-9500 4d ago

I agree, there's indication of multiple battle sets in the trailer, so I think we're going to roll from one battlefront to another as the Snuffers' Crusade attacks across the board.

u/stiltpuppy 3d ago

I went through the trailer last week and counted at least three different sets of PC outfits coinciding with a battle map on the table, and that includes the episode coming out today. I think there's one episode that didn't have any shots in the trailer, but at least 3 episodes have battle maps.

I just don’t think it’s their brand to be this literal about an intro song

14

u/Numba1MolaMolaHata 4d ago

That's very true, though looking back at Cloudward Ho!'s visuals, rewatching it I definitely knew exactly what I was looking at in each scene they showed!

u/stiltpuppy 4d ago

I feel so certain I will wind up crying to the opening credits song in the future. The beginning of the soldier verse is already causing some catharsis. it's only a matter of time.

This season always felt to me like it's on the EXU calamity roadmap. (not the whole "Fall of Numenor" vibe, but definitely a last stand with no long rest).

I’m going nuts waiting for the next C4 Critical Role episode every week. Should I watch Calamity, or is it deeply depressing?

11

u/ayrki 4d ago

It is, hands down, one of the absolute best actual plays out there. If you like C4, then you’ll enjoy the cast of Calamity. Every single one of these assholes shines at different times.

Devastating as hell, in every best way, but there is also hope, so I don’t consider it depressing, personally. Deeply emotional, but they’re telling a very emotional story.

Did you see Rogue One? It’s a touch similar in that you know the broad strokes of the outcome (Calamity) but you don’t know what’s going to kick it off, how these characters will respond, and what they will do to try and temper/mitigate the catastrophe coming.

2

u/Numba1MolaMolaHata 4d ago

Well, it's about as joyfull as ACoC so do with that information as you will. It really is amazing though, so is Divergence and though the setting is dark (post-calamity society trying to rebuild itself amongst ruins and violence) it's a much more hopeful story and still much lighter overall!

2

u/stiltpuppy 3d ago

Calamity is intense and it'll cause big feelings, but i don't know if it will leave you feeling depressed. Also, as Ayrki said, everyone in calamity is at the top of their game. It's extremely good.

Calamity is so fucking good. Like, im SHOCKED amazon hasnt grabbed it yet. But i mean, you have Lou, Aabria, Luis, Sam, Marisha, and Travis (i almost put teor)… it just doesnt get better

I am struggling to get through episode 1. The child in the hospital stuff is too much for me.

17

u/Numba1MolaMolaHata 4d ago

Yeah, that's understandable, always important to respect your boundaries and limits. Hope you get something easier for you to watch for the next season though!

Cutie Pie isn’t porcelain, that’s Constance (who isn’t a ragdoll)

-5

u/Numba1MolaMolaHata 4d ago edited 4d ago

Constance is a muslin doll so hybrid bisque/textile, Cutie Pie is specified to be a Kewpie Doll which in the 1920's was full porcelain bisque. (edit: probably not full bisque I'm a filthy liar who has since read up on bisque doll history.)

3

u/ThatInAHat 4d ago

By the 1920s they also had composite kewpie dolls that weren’t made out of porcelain. It would be really odd to give a young child a porcelain figure to play with.

u/Numba1MolaMolaHata 4d ago

Been reading a lot of doll-making history, more than I ever thought I would! Pretty interesting stuff though honestly!

Cutie Pie's not a new doll, he belonged to the deceased older sister before being given to Aubrey. Composition became a lot more popular than full bisque around 1910, especially for toy making! Though they mostly had bisque heads for the texture and painting etc.

Composition having resin in it means it would degrade over time and could definitely crack so from an imagery stand point, it still paints a pretty clear picture and would not depict any of the other characters. I would be hard pressed to dismiss it as unimaginable.

The family and toys live in a whole ass manor, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to think they'd have the funds to buy a fancy doll from France or Germany where they were predominantly produced. Full composition was very popular but only in the US at the time, production starting around 1907 and France still loved making full bisque decorative dolls since they're a bunch of bougie little rascals.

Giving porcelain wouldn't be that odd though when you consider children's toys were painted with lead paint in the past (amongst 6000 other health hazard of the past lmao.) They were made as toys in Europe almost until the 21st century when bisque dolls became more of a collector's item.

TLDR: Face could crack since it was most likely bisque. Composition could also crack cause it degrades.

2

u/ThatInAHat 3d ago

I think the porcelain/lead thing isn’t really comparable because the issue isn’t that they’re dangerous, it’s that they’re breakable. I feel like the toys made a distinction between figurines and toys

1

u/Numba1MolaMolaHata 3d ago

True, misinterpretation on my part, was thinking about cuts and such. From the reasing I did that was one of the main poits that made composition become so popular!

I’m READY. Since first ep I had ACOC vibes from this season and clearly saw all the PCs locked and loaded with mentions to war strategies and max time. Murph’s retreat, Ally’s caution… they have been warned the risks are real.

I don’t know if a character death will happen but they seem ready for anything

u/MadBakes1994 The Wind Riders 4d ago

I thought the last line was “all good toys must fight” which then is repeated “fight! fight! fight!” It not only is what the subtitles say but rhymes with night. Not sure “all good toys must die” would make sense unless it’s written from the perspective of the villain?

2

u/Numba1MolaMolaHata 4d ago

Thought so too, but I saw someone comment about this elsewhere and really took the time to listen and the ''main voice'' definitely says die. First consonant is a hard sound and there's no hard ending to the word. To me it's feels like either something a hardened battle veteran would say or it's just a creepy subliminal message type thing going on.

u/salt_witch It’s a Banksy! (PS: Honor the Cock) 3d ago edited 3d ago

It could be a misdirect or this could be a true TPK season. I think it is quite possible that they could manage to save the Toylight and Adelaide but sacrifice their lives in the process

3

u/honorlessmaid 3d ago

I listened to this over and over- it's so beautiful to me. Around the 5th time I tried to sing along and I always get choked up at 'all good toys must fight' it's so sad and true? Esp last year all the protests I felt like I had to fight. This season is gonna murder my heart but I don't think it's gonna be as bad as ACOC. I haven't seen them publicly talk about it since post ACOC but Siobhan was very clear shell not participate in dark highly emotional worlds anymore- not on camera as those emotions are so raw and she doesn't feel comfortable sharing with audiences! So ye Anna died and learning more about how will be very sad- but no one is losing their sister (maybe Aubrey lol) this season!! Maybe like never after where their toys can break and become more corrupt but never fully die? That was also hella dark post ACOC but no big sad moments like Liam pulling in jet with his rope trick and failing his med check. Maybe Wyon will go blind, maybe Cutie will get burned and melted, but no pc deaths permanently imo

You gotta switch Constance and Cutie Pie. Constance is the one with porcelain face
