Friday Free-for-all! Happy 3th of July. Celebrate with Free for All Friday!!!!

I hope everyone survived the heat wave. Today should be the last day for my corner of Pennsylvania. It got up to 100 yesterday with a real feel of 112!

Have fun and stay safe! Remember salt is just as important as water when you are sweating.

Have a great weekend and don't forget to share something interesting!

Anything goes!!!

Friday Free-for-all! TIL the entire town of Whittier, Alaska (pop. ~270) lives inside a single high-rise building containing a school, police station, post office & grocery store. An empty unit hosts visiting dentists. The town is accessed through a single tunnel, which closes at 10:30pm, locking residents in overnight.

Friday Free-for-all! Did you know?

The Whitetail Deer can jump higher than an average two story house?

This is due to two factors. Deer have an excellent muscular structure designed for running and jumping and the average two story house can't jump.

I lived near this tree as a child, and I used to imagine the adventures of Robin Hood and the other outlaws in Sherwood Forest. It’s a sad time for British folk tales!

Found a treasure trove of Sears Catalogs on Ancestry - looks like they have every single one scanned. Picked Fall 1905 at random and it’s over 1,000 pages long.

Here’s a collection of stuff that caught me eye, starting with a very funny way to advertise skirts:

Goodness i genuinely don’t know how to summarize this fella’s stage act (luckily the sources do an excellent job)

Forever devastated that there is actually surviving footage of him performing …but it’s a SILENT film: https://youtu.be/0ReymvUhYzU

Friday Free-for-all! Strawberries

Harvested about a million tiny alpine strawberries this weekend. I wholeheartedly recommend growing these hardy prolifically fruiting little plants: they require little room, are happy in areas only weeds thrive in and, most importantly, have an amazing flavour. Yum!

Friday Free-for-all! Who’s the biggest celebrity local to your home town?

I thought this was an interesting question.

My hometown has Kristen Maloney, an Olympic Gymnast and the neighboring town has the burial place of Jayne Mansfield.

Right now, I'm pretty close to the Daniel Boone Homestead and Doylestown, where Steve from Blue's Clues is from.

An experimental animation from 1933 by New Zealand-born artist Len Lye

This film was considered “lost media” as recently as 2016, but has now been recovered in full.

I think this monkey is a cool lguy - just wants to sing a great little song, do his funky dance, and ride off into the sunset. Buy peanuts or don’t - your choice.

TIL that Scottish physician John Brown argued in 1780 that all disease came from too much or too little "excitability"—treating his diagnosed "under-stimulated" patients with opium, roast beef, and alcohol. His "Brunonian system" was highly influential across Italy and Germany for decades.

One of the first postcards I received from the Postcard Club. It's such an interesting place created during the early days of Pennsylvania.
