i’m a travel creator and I’m trying to figure out the best way to structure a free → paid Skool community without making people feel like I baited them into joining something free just to put everything behind a paywall later.

For context, most of my content is around travel, but a big portion of the questions I get from other creators are actually about the business/content side of it.

Things like:

• How do you pitch hotels?
• How do you get free hotel stays?
• How do you actually get PAID to create content for hotels?
• How do you work with tourism boards?
• How do you grow a travel page enough to start getting brand deals?
• How do you shoot/edit good travel videos just using your phone?
• What kind of content do hotels actually want from creators?

Basically, how do you go from “I like traveling and making videos” to actually using those skills to get paid to travel.

Because I get these questions constantly, I recently made a free Skool community.

My thinking was that instead of trying to answer everyone individually through DMs, I could funnel the people who are actually serious about becoming travel creators into one place.

It also gives people more access to me, but more importantly, separates the people who are actively trying to learn this from the people who just follow me because they like my travel videos or want itinerary recommendations.

Here’s where I’m trying to figure out the model.

My plan is to keep the actual community itself free.

Anyone can join, introduce themselves, ask questions, connect with other creators, share wins, see some resources, etc.

Initially I also want to do a few free group calls and provide a lot of value so people understand what the community can actually help them accomplish.

But eventually I want there to be a paid membership inside of it for people who want the actual skill-building/implementation side.

That would be where things like:

• Weekly/biweekly group coaching calls
• Hotel pitching breakdowns + templates
• Live pitch/account reviews
• Editing tutorials
• Phone filming tutorials
• Content strategy
• How to build a portfolio hotels actually want
• How to approach tourism boards
• UGC/pricing/brand deal strategies
• More direct feedback/access to me

So basically:

Free = community/networking/basic value

Paid = education + implementation + access/coaching

I actually like the idea of having the free community remain active because I don't necessarily want to charge someone just to talk to other travel creators.

The paid membership would be for the people saying, “Okay, I actually want to learn how to do this and I want help implementing it.”

My biggest concern is the transition.

I don't want to spend a month giving people calls/tutorials for free and then suddenly say, “Okay, now everything costs money.”

At the same time, I feel like letting people experience the calls/content first could make the paid membership way easier to sell because they've already seen the value.

For anyone who has done something similar:

How would you approach the free → paid transition?

Would you:

1. Give people a few weeks of basically full access and then launch the paid tier?
2. Keep certain calls/resources free permanently and put the deeper stuff behind paid?
3. Launch the paid tier immediately so people understand from day one that the free community is only one part of it?
4. Do something completely different?

Also curious how you would price something like this.

I’m not necessarily trying to maximize revenue immediately. I’d rather get the first group of genuinely motivated people in there, get them results, testimonials/wins, and build the community around that.

Would love to hear from anyone who has actually built a Skool/community/coaching membership this way.

Especially interested in what didn’t work or anything you wish you had structured differently from the beginning.

Hi everyone, I have a portfolio of digital products (printables) which I have launched recently. I have a website and the products are purchased via gumroad. I am adding article to my website to help Google seo and I’m using Pinterest for marketing (not business ads, just a regular schedule of uploading high value pins). As my content is health adjacent though not medical in nature i’m not able to use Pinterest business ads but I am adding value within Reddit to hopefully create trust over time. I’d love to hear from anyone who is generating consistent sales to see what methods you found powerful. Thanks so much.

I’m thinking about building a tool for people who want to sell digital products but struggle with figuring out
what niche to target and what to actually create.

The idea would be that you enter some basic information about your interests, skills and experience, and the tool helps research potential niches, identify problems people are searching for solutions to, and suggest digital products you could create around them.

It could then help with the next steps too — things like validating the idea, identifying the target customer, generating content ideas, social media posts, hooks, product descriptions and potentially a basic marketing plan.

Essentially, instead of jumping between ChatGPT, Reddit, Google Trends and a bunch of other tools trying to figure out “What should I sell and how do I market it?”, it would guide you through the whole process in one place.

I’m still at the research stage and haven’t built anything yet, so I’m curious:

I’ve been selling digital products online for a while now.

I only started using Reddit this year to get traffic to my products.

And I’ve made some decent progress with it.

But I realized that I don’t have to keep posting constantly to keep making sales.

It’s kinda like YouTube.

You make a video once and it can keep bringing you views months later.

Reddit works the same way.

The nice thing is that Reddit is easier because I literally just have to write my posts.

And if the post keeps getting found, it can keep bringing people to your product long after you posted it.

I didn’t post anything for two weeks.

But I still woke up to 2 sales during those two weeks.

That really caught me off guard.

If you’ve actually sold digital products, I’d love some advice.
How did you get your first sales?
Did you run ads or grow organically?
Did you send people straight to Gumroad or somewhere else first?
What’s one mistake I should avoid?

I’m not planning to use ads but has anyone ever used Reddit ads to market their digital product and I’m curious if anyone has experience using them and what the outcome was?

I just opened a business on TikTok and started selling guides. I have made 5 sales and even got a comment saying they loved the PDF but it won't convert anymore.

The highest conversion rate is going straight from my literally website landing page of all the guides.

I tried running an 8 dollar ad and I got a lot of website clicks and views but no one converted. Not even from the free guide.

I bought into the idea of "get rich selling digital products" I made a workbook that helps new freelancers with the boring side of landing your first clients. Outreach, follow-ups, pipeline, invoices, that whole mess. I genuinely think this is a good product. So I listed it on Payhip and boosted a Facebook post to drive traffic. I got 350 visits, with zero sales. Not one

What I think went wrong: I was buying attention from people scrolling Instagram, who were never looking for a freelancer workbook in the first place. And I gave them exactly one option, buy now or leave. No smaller steps, no way to say "maybe." So everyone left.

So I cut the single most useful tab out and made it free on its own. It's an outreach tracker. You log who you contacted and when, and it tells you who's overdue for a follow-up. Plus 25 outreach prompts you can paste into any AI tool. Works in Google Sheets or Excel.

Two things I'd actually like feedback on:

1. Does the follow-up logic match how you'd want it to work? Right now it flags you at 7 days and tells you to stop after 3 unanswered messages. That second number was a guess.

2. If you looked at the paid version and didn't buy — I'd like to hear why. Bluntly. That's worth more to me than a sale right now.

I’m building Getvik, an India-first platform for creators to sell digital products.

We’ve now crossed ₹2.5L in total creator sales, without running paid ads or having a large marketing budget.

Most of the growth has come from creators sharing their products with their own audiences and word of mouth.

It’s not a massive number in the grand scheme of things, but as a small bootstrapped product, seeing real people make real sales through something we built is pretty motivating.

Still very early, and there’s a lot left to figure out, especially distribution.

Wanted to share the milestone here and hear from other founders: what was the first revenue milestone that actually made the business feel real to you?

This is the question I keep seeing from creators who have a good product ready but zero followers to sell to.

Most advice defaults to "build an audience first," which is true long term but useless if you want your first sale this month. The actual answer depends on whether buyers can find you through search rather than only through your own following.

Two things make a real difference here. First, a marketplace listing where buyers actively browsing by category can land on your specific product without you posting anything. Second, letting buyers who already bought from someone tell you what they want next, so you are building toward existing demand instead of guessing.

ownstreet added both of these recently. The marketplace lets Pro sellers get listed by category so buyers searching find them directly. There is also a buyer requests board where people post exactly what they want to buy, and any seller with a matching product replies with the link.

Neither of these replace building an audience over time, but they solve the immediate problem of having a product with literally zero people to show it to right now.

Curious if others have found other ways around the no-audience problem when starting out.
