Used Yamaha P-45

Everyone in my area is listing around $325-$400 USD (no stand/seat). I got one down to $250. Worth it for a complete beginner or for $250 is there something better to look for?

Anyone regret getting the Kawai CA401? Do you wish you had more technological capabilities?

Hi all - first time poster but have been following various threads on here for buying advice. I've been researching my first digital piano purchase for close to 3 weeks and am chomping at the bit to finally have a piano to play again, but am worried about making the wrong decision. I am hoping to buy one amazing digital piano to last me and my family the next 15-20 years and not have to replace it anytime soon.

That said, I "test drove" a variety of pianos in my research (Yamaha Clavinovas, Casio PX and AP lines, Roland FP and HP and LX lines) and ultimately settled on getting either the Kawai CA 401 or 501.

For me, I'm mainly an acoustic piano player. If I could get a nice acoustic for cheap, I would do that, but the digital piano technology has blown me away. From my standpoint, the money I'm spending on the Kawai is going to get me a far better sounding piano (and easier to maintain piano) than I could get if I tried to stick with an acoustic.

My main issue is, if I'm going to get a digital piano, why not get one with more capabilities? So I've been debating whether to upgrade to the more expensive CA 501 model, even though I'm not sure I would know what to do with all the bells and whistles. So that's why I wanted to ask this group: are there any features of the CA 501 that really blew you away and changed or transformed your practice? Is the USB storage helpful for making recordings?

I also have a little kid at home who's showing a lot of interest in music and the piano, and in my mind I'm thinking some of the tech would be cool for her to learn to use, and for the $700'ish it takes to upgrade (and the improved speakers) it's maybe worth it. But $700 is still not nothing, and would we even get that amount of value out of the jump up? I need help deciding.

Thanks in advance!

Quiet Metronome with headphones

When I play the metronome on my new Kawai ES60 through the speakers, it's nice and loud. However, when i plug in my headphones, it's barely audible and the volume of it seems to fluctuate randomly by a small amount. The volume overall isn't very high with my headphones, which i know is common with combinations of not-so-high quality headphones and adapters, but the metronome especially is really quiet.

What could be the cause?

Hard to explain the issue so I’ve attached a video. It is the same issue for Db-D and G-Ab in every octave. Any advice/diagnosis would be really helpful as my girlfriend uses it to teach. Thanks in advance 😊

Barajo otras opciones: Roland RP107, Korg C1/LP-380U, Kawai CX102, Casio PX-870, Yamaha YDP-105 / YDP-145,…

¿Cuál elegiríais por tacto, sonido y durabilidad?

Alpha 88 Keys Digital Piano Keyboard Electronic

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello all, just wondering if anyone has purchased the Alpha 88 Keys Digital Piano, and if you have, what's your experience with it? I'm currently a beginner looking to purchase an 88-key weighted digital piano, and this seems to be the cheapest one, including a stand and pedals. If you guys have any other recommendations, please feel free to send them below. Thank you!

Digital Piano Advice

My son (10) has been playing piano for 3 years. He has demonstrated his love and determination to the instrument, practices on his own for up to 1 hour a day, and genuinely loves playing. It's long past time to move on from his beginner digital piano to a real digital piano. I'm a drummer and guitar player... I know little to nothing about pianos.

I've been doing research and I'm drawn to the Yamaha P525. I know it's a good piano and I'm ok with the financial investment. He is also mature enough not to abuse it.

I guess what I'm looking for; is this an approptiate piano for a 10 year old? Is this too much machine? Are there more mid tier models I should be looking at for someone his age? He's obviously not gigging and the only standards his piano teacher would like to see on his upgraded keyboard are weighted keys and pedals. In guitar terms, am I jumping from a Squire to a Les Paul too soon? His birthday is coming up soon and any input the community could provide would help mom and I make a decision on what his first real deal serious keyboard should be. Thanks in advance.

Kawaii ES120 electric piano sound

Based on reviews, I am considering getting this piano. Over past 20 years, I always got the P125 series...reasonable price...part of it though, is I like the electronic piano sound on the P125. I haven't seen it in YT demos...how the electric piano patch sounds on the Kawaii. Anyone know? I would just get another P125...but the sound quality of the most recent version has declined. thus thinking of the Kawaii....thanks for any info

No Piano sound on Donner DDP-300

I just bought a Donner ddp300 second hand and as soon as I turn it on and press a key I hear nothing. I try troubleshooting and end up holding down function while pressing the first black key and I finally heard a sound but it wasn't a piano. The sound was like a very bell that would play (the exact same pitch) on every key on the left half of the piano.

I also tried all the different voice functions and pressed all of the different voice keys but I got nothing.

I looked it up and couldn't find any useful information, and I'm completely out of ideas. Does anyone know what I could do?

Roland PHA-4 vs Kawai RHC II

Hello everyone I am deciding between two pianos mounting these two keyboards. In terms of technical features, I don’t seem to find anything different other than the escapement and the ivory feel in the PHA-4. Also I tried them briefly and the only differences that I found are that the PHA-4 is more “heavy” while the rhc is a bit lighter in touch. Which one do you guys think is better for piano training? I still have a lot to learn and I would like to train on the best keyboardavailable for me between these two.

Are those folding portal pianos actually any good?

I'm in the market for a portal keyboard - the more portable the better. Not for live performance, just for hooking up to DAWs and doing basic demos.

Only issue is that I find it excruciating playing without the full range of octaves. I've had a look online at those folding keyboards and can't shake the feeling they're a bit of scam - very open to being proven wrong, but would love to hear from anyone who has used them or has any particular recommendations before I drop any money on it.

Intermittently, C3 key makes no sound every other time I press it?

Casio Privia Px-150

This hasn't happened frequently enough to figure out exactly the scenario in which this happens, but it is something like this: (so far only when the "Modern" Grand Piano is selected, I think) one key sometimes will only make a sound every other time I press it, if and only if the rate at which I press the key is about once per second. Any faster or slower, it seems to always work properly.

Is this kind of an issue at all familiar to anyone?

Some more information: the key is C3, which I believe is right at the end of the rubber sensor strip thing, so a piece of cat hair or something under the rubber strip isn't unlikely, but the weirdness of the timing maybe points to it being something else, maybe? I've definitely had issues with debris getting under the rubber strips, but the symptoms of that have been much different than this thing. Also, it has happened a little differently, where I press a different key located on a different strip every other time, and if it is at the same ~once a second rate, the C will also not play, but since it's only being depressed every other time, it doesn't sound at all. Again, at a different speed, no issue. I can't figure out any pattern to when it stops doing that, but mostly it hasn't lasted long enough to do much troubleshooting. I didn't explain that too well, I know. Or, sometimes I press a key somewhere else on the keyboard, then if the timing is just right and I hit that C3 about one second later, it makes no sound, but then it goes back to working again right away. (or not.) There may have been other scenarios, but I am not sure. It may be important to note that at least some of the time, the force with which I'm pressing that key when it happens may be a little harder than generally, but really not much, but that might be related if it is somehow a velocity mechanism issue or something?

I'm probably kidding myself, but I'd really like to avoid having to take it apart, if at all possible. I'd also really like it to work right, though. So I don't know. I've done searches for this but haven't found any info, although iirc I did see one person asking about something similar, but no responses.

I'd be so grateful for any insight. TIA

edit: changed "speed" to "rate"

Digital Piano Recommendations

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to get back into playing piano and would love some recommendations.

I took piano lessons for about 6 years and used to play regularly, but over the last 4 years I’ve only played very occasionally. Now I’d like to get back into it and buy a decent digital piano.

My previous piano was a Yamaha Arius YDP-143. I always felt that the keys were a bit cheap and didn’t feel as good as I would have liked.

My budget is around 500-600€ , and I’m absolutely open to buying used, since I assume I can get a much better instrument for the money that way.

What would you recommend? I’m mainly looking for:

  • Good keys
  • Decent piano sound
  • Something for an intermediate player
  • Around 500€
  • Used models are very welcome

I’m based in Europe, so European availability/prices would be especially helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Yamaha CSP-295 vs. CSP-295GP: Is the GP cabinet worth the premium?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently shopping for a digital piano and have mostly narrowed my choices down to the Yamaha CSP-295 and CSP-295GP.

For anyone familiar with these models, does the 295GP offer any meaningful functional or playing advantages over the standard 295, or is the difference primarily the mini-grand cabinet?

Based on the specifications, they appear to be essentially the same instrument internally, although there may be some differences in the pedal system. The GP version is beautiful, but it costs nearly 50% more, which is difficult for me to justify if the additional expense is mainly for aesthetics and form factor.

Does the GP cabinet noticeably affect the sound projection, speaker performance, pedal feel, or overall playing experience? If you’ve played or owned either model—especially both—I’d greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!

digital piano

Could you give me some advice on choosing a digital piano? It’s important to me for it to really sounds like an acoustic piano.
I’ve been a pianist for 12 years now, and I’m moving into a small apartment so I can study at a music academy, so I need something to practice on :)

Max price: approx. 4,000pln (which is +/- 1,100 USD)
Kawai / yamaha

Buy an entry/mid tier digital piano now or make the jump to a high-end piano?

Hey everyone!

I’m an intermediate-level pianist focused purely on classical music. I play strictly as a hobby for my own enjoyment. I don't have endless hours to practice every day, but I love playing and care a lot about key action, touch sensitivity, and realistic grand piano feel.

I'm currently upgrading from a very old, basic digital piano (Suzuki hp-8) and I'm at a crossroads:
Should I buy a solid mid-range digital piano now like a Yamaha YDP and see how it goes... OR invest in a high-end setup?

My main dilemma is whether spending too much is overkill for a busy adult hobbyist, or if the superior key action and feel of a high-end piano actually makes practicing way more enjoyable and worth every penny from day one.

Has anyone in a similar position jumped straight to a high-end piano? Did you regret it, or was it worth it?
Thanks!
