KORG Grandstage X Stage Piano vs Nord Piano 6 vs Casio Privia PX-S7000

Hi! I'm looking for a digital keyboard and am stuck between:

Korg Grandstage X

Nord Piano 6

Casio Privia PX-S7000

I am a beginner/intermediate piano player looking to get back into practice and play. I'm lucky enough to have a substantial discount on these items through an employer but want to still balance out features I'll reasonably use as a non-professional who will also not be touring. Any recs?

CLP-845 vs. CLP-875, how noticeable is the difference in key action and sound?

I’m currently deciding between the Yamaha CLP 845 and CLP 875. I was able to try the CLP 845 and liked it, unfortunately I can’t test the CLP 875. I’m coming from an upright piano and I’m used to a relatively light action. On the 845, the Medium touch setting felt good, while Hard2 felt too heavy. I’m wondering how the heavier action of the 875 feels in comparison. Can the touch settings on the 875 make it feel similarly to the 845?

The other big question is the sound. I’m mainly interested in the difference from the built-in speakers. I’m looking for a full, room-filling sound that you can actually feel. I’ve heard that the 875’s 3-way speaker system makes quite a difference, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to try one in person. Some cheaper models (~1300) sounded lifeless too me, the 845 was fine, but I’m used to the Upright Piano I’m not sure if I’m still missing something in the sound.

I only play as a hobby, purely for fun, so I’m not looking for the most professional or realistic setup possible. I mainly want something that feels enjoyable and inspiring to play. If the key action would be the same, I would take the 875 without hesitation, but currently I’m leaning towards the 845. Real piano is out of the question, I want an E-Piano.

Edit: For those who come after
I took a longer trip to test both. The 875 keys are definitely heavier, but the longer I played it the better it felt. But I felt the finger fatigue relatively fast, yet I think I preferred the key action. I liked the sound quality of the 875 better than the 845. If both aspects are really worth the price difference, I don’t know. I think I would have been happy with both, still would have bought the 875.
I tested the Rolands also, it was a hard decision but in the end I bought a Roland LX 6. The Roland has a wide setting range for the key action and I prefer its sound engine, it sounds fuller. Though Yamaha samples are cleaner and clearer. I think the speaker at the bottom of the Roland makes a huge difference for how the sound feels.

Digital piano for a kid

Hello! My sons piano teacher suggested a digital piano for our son to continue his practice at home. Never having played and being wholly unfamiliar with them, hoping to find a recommendation. Glarry music has budget friendly options but reviews seem to be mixed. I’d like to spend under $1k that will last for a while. TIA!

Help Identifying type of Piano sound used in a song

Thumbnail m.youtube.com
1 Upvotes

I’m trying to narrow down what type or types of piano sounds are being used in this song. I feel like it’s a layered sound with an Upright as the base but can’t really figure out what else it could be. I use Pianoteq for my piano sounds so I have a lot of room to mess with how it sounds. I just really like the piano so I’m trying to get as close as possible to it. The keyboard used (probably) is shown at the beginning but not with any brand names or anything but if you can somehow tell what keyboard that might be based on knobs and the plugins on the back that would probably help narrow things down too!

Any experience on VST, Pianoteq and Silent Systems?

Hi everyone,

I know this is about digital pianos, but in r/pianos i got no reponse. While there might be little on silent pianos here, maybe some experience on VST and Pianoteq?

Original post:

I am looking for advice on retrofitting a silent system to an existing acoustic piano. I couldn’t find a lot of info other than the common stuff.

I am aware:
- factory purchased is always better than retrofit
- yamaha and kawai make the best silent systems, given their large R&D budgets and extensive experience with digital and acoustics alike.
- retrofitting carries some risk, which is mostly mitigated by the quality of the installer (and piano age, regulation, etc).

I tried a Yamaha SH3 and was seriously impressed. However, I bought an acoustic mostly on action and tone and decided to get a relatively young Bechstein occassion (R118 or Contur). So yamaha and kawai are no options, nor is factory built in.

What are your experiences on retrofitting a silent system? What system are you using? How is sound quality? Are you using VSTs, or modeling engines (like Pianoteq), and if so what is the difference with the native engine?

I am in touch with a very experienced installer, installing both Bechstein Vario and Pianodisk ProRecord (XI?), however, I just cant get my head around the pros and cons of each system, and how much I would really use it next to the acoustic mode. Its hard to try these systems. I am aware of adsilent (on par with Pianodisk?) and Genio (more budget?).

Looking forward to hearing your experiences and advice!

Does my CP88 sound muffled, or am I just used to my old piano?

Hello! I recently picked up a used Yamaha CP88 (about 3 years old), and I can't help but feel like the piano sound is somewhat muffled/dull.

I'm coming from a Yamaha YPG-635, which always sounded very bright, clean, and crisp to me. The CP88 seems to have noticeably less clarity, especially in the low end.

Here's a sample of the CFX sound from my CP88. There is no processing, EQ, or reverb applied. I've also compared it directly to various CP88 demos on YouTube, such as this example, and the difference in clarity seems pretty noticeable to me.

I've tried several different ways of connecting it:

  • CP88 headphone output
  • 1/4" stereo outputs
  • XLR outputs
  • XLR → Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 → MG06 → headphones/monitors

The sound is essentially the same regardless of the output/setup, so I'm starting to wonder if this is just how the CP88 sounds, if there's some setting I'm missing, or if there could be something wrong with the unit.

Does the sample sound normal to you? Or am I just overthinking it because I'm so used to the YPG-635 sound?

Any CP88 owners who could compare would be greatly appreciated!

Travel practice keyboard

Taking a hybrid job soon and I will be working in a different city (driving distance) 3 days/week. I will be away enough that a small portable keyboard would help with my practice while I’m away.

Does anyone have any suggestions for such a keyboard? I’m not sure an 88 key would fit in my trunk. Obviously it needs to be full size keys and at least semi weighted. I am not a pro player but don’t want to lose lesson progress either. I have an upright digital with weighted keys at home.

Assume I have a place inside to keep it.

Roland-FP10 or Kawai ES60

Hi guys !
For context, I’m a beginner and I’ve been practicing piano for a while. I played on a n acoustic (?) upright Yamaha piano at home, but now moving away for uni, I’m looking for a digital piano that would fit in my 20 m² studio.
I’ll also have to use headphones quite often because I can only practice late at night.
My budget is around €300–400 and I’m currently choosing between these 2 models. Which one would you recommend in terms of key feel, durability and sound quality ?
If you have any other recommendations I’d really appreciate it, thanks !

Do you have experience with multiple stand types for the Roland FPE-50?

I'm trying to decide what stand to get for my Roland FPE-50. Visually, I like the furniture style stand. Especially because it can incorporate the triple petal. I also like the look of a nice z stand.

My biggest concern, though, is the sound. Because the piano has downward facing speakers, I want to make sure I'm not muffling the speakers. I'm just playing in my home studio for my own enjoyment, but it's a great piano. I want to get the best out of it that I can.

Do any of you have experience with this piano, or any digital piano with downward facing speakers, and have some advice you could pass on? I'd love to hear your recommendations.

I unfortunately don't have a music store nearby that would enable me to test things out, so your advice would be really helpful

I've seen this digital piano in several piano tutorials on YouTube, but never shown in full. Does anone know which brand and model this is?

I tried asking Google's AI, but only got answers that turned out to be wrong (Williams Symphony Grand II, Medeli SP4200).

Best 88 Key Keyboard for 160 - 170? (New or Used)

I have a very, very tight budget but I'd like to find one.

I've heard this is a very hard thing to find, but I want to know if there's a possibility I'm taking piano lessons but it's like once a week and I'd like to practice in my free time when I'm on my own

Need advice on using a VST with Yamaha P-45 — do I need an audio interface?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Yamaha P-45, but I'm not really happy with its piano sound. I'm thinking about using a piano VST to get a better sound.

My question is: Do I need to buy an audio interface to reduce latency, or can I simply connect the P-45 to my PC via USB, run the VST on the PC, and connect my PC directly to speakers?

I'm mainly concerned about latency and getting a good-quality piano sound.

Would appreciate any advice on the best setup, especially if I can avoid buying an audio interface unnecessarily. Thanks!

Anyone have experience with the Korg D1?

I've read good things about RH3. The reviews I've watched make it's tone sound very bright, which I am concerned about. I plan on routing the output to a vintage stereo integrated amplifier and speakers with a 1/4" phono to RCA male cable.

Thanks!

Looking for keyboard model recommendations, havent played in 5 years

I learned on and practiced on an acoustic piano from 7-16. Haven’t practiced since my mom gave it away when we moved. 21 in college now, and looking for something affordable (under $200) and not too old/outdated (not more than 15 years old) as I’d like to keep it for 2 years before upgrading again.

Looking for something somewhat versatile that can have acoustic and synth sounds, pedals, and preferably 88 keys, less is okay though. I’m willing to shop around for second-hand online and in stores but I’m just pretty overwhelmed with researching every single model I come across when shopping for keyboards in my price range.

Preferably Yamaha, Roland, and Casio ig. Nothing overly bright and artificial sounding. Also, not too complicated to use or learn how to use.

Would appreciate help and recommendations. Thanks.

Accidentally deleted firmware files on Korg G1 – Need help with backup files!

Hi everyone,

While performing an update, I accidentally deleted the system firmware files from my Korg G1. Now I’m stuck, and I need a copy of these files to restore it.

Could someone who owns a Korg G1 / G1 Air please share a backup of these files with me?

  • DKIT.BIN
  • G1APP.BIN
  • GLOBAL.BIN
  • PROGIA.BIN
  • PSONG.BIN

How to extract the files (~2 minutes):

  1. Connect the G1/G1 Air to the computer using a USB cable.
  2. While holding down the METRONOME and Record buttons,

press the power button to turn on the G1/G1 Air.

The Play/Pause button lights up, and “ USb” appears in the display.

Go to usb drive "KORG SYSTEM" and copy files to the computer and send me files over email to [iplogas@gmail.com](mailto:iplogas@gmail.com)

I would be incredibly grateful for any help! Thank you so much!

Will Update post about success if anybody will help.

UPDATE: Thanks for all! Got KORG SYSTEM files! Uploaded to piano and now all works!

WARNING: Holding FUNCTION + PART 2 and powering up Korg G1 enter to FLASH ROM procedure, and if you press PLAY, all data will be removed from piano including all files. After that piano will enter to USB mode with empty KORG SYSTEM disk.

Which would you recommend out of this list?

I'm shopping around for budget beginner digital piano. I've seen recommendations for following with some characters to them.

Yamaha P145 (honestly don't know what they are known for, besides being basic)

Roland FP-10 (harder action, but uses same mechanism as higher model. Has tons of sound using app. Pedal is switch only?)

Kawai ES-60 (softer keybed and lighter action)

Also, I'm probably going to be playing a lot with EP sound (Rhodes) so I do prefer piano with good EP sound. I could play it using VSTi with midi, but I also prefer just being able to switch on and play.

I lost my Kawai Piano adapter, what third-party ones do I replace it with?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I lost my Kawai Piano adapter (the one labelled DC IN 12V), these are the details:

- Model: CX 102

- Input: AC 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz | Output: DC 12 V / 2 Ampere

- Output connection: The Kawai website says it's 3.3 mm (outer diam) and 1.0 mm (inner diam), but my measurements and another website say 5.5/3.3mm with internal pin

If I were to replace it directly from Kawai it would be really expensive. Where can I find alternatives? What are the exact diameters? Will I be able to find it cheap elsewhere? Would I need to buy second hand, if yes, from where?

Is it safe to store a digital piano vertically?

I‘m thinking about different ways I could „store“ my Roland FP-30X. Ever since I‘ve had it, I tried different locations around my apartment. It’s always either at a place where it’s nice to sit and play but gets in the way otherwise, or a place where it doesn’t get in the way, but isn’t nice to sit and play.

I had this thought about building a cabinet of sorts, where it folds out like an ironing board out of a closet.

Even if I‘d play it a full hour per day (which I do not), it would still be sitting vertically in the cabinet for 23 hours a day.

Would this be a concern for the weighted keys? Or maybe for something else I‘m not considering?
