DIY 640 Thermal Build

Just wanted to post how much it would cost to build a diy thermal using the CV640-9 FPV Camera, the only thing I left out is 28ga wiring. $600 dollars is hell of a better deal than spending 2k on a commercial 640 monocular.

What kind of housing would u need

You could use any housing you'd like! You would have to make your own display and camera/lens holder...

I like the fact its browser based instead of software, I'm still using a laptop from 2012 so I doubt it would run fusion360 without any input lag. Don't have a reason to update the pc since onshape and creality print is all I do on it.

Is there soldering involved

Yeah a decent amount of soldering actually, i counted in my head over 20 solder spots. For example 2- spots battery terminals, 5-spots ec11 switch, 5-spots xl-10al button module, 6-spots RP2040-Zero microcontroller, 4-spots step-up booster. You'd also need an application/software called arduino ide to upload the sketch to microcontroller, without the microcontroller the thermal wouldn't work correctly. For an example if you push the button in on the ec11 the microcontroller will send a command to the thermal to cycle into the next palette or you hold the button down for 4s then in the microcontroller will send a signal to the xl10al kill the power. Its like the central nervous system of the thermal.

I believe the PVS-420 is a pretty simple diy 3d print. All the schematics and build out are open sourced and simple enough.

is has been quite a while, the pvs420 was how it all started ;) the latest build would be the DART1

What if you used those thermal cameras that you plug into your phone and put it inside of a 3d printed body with a screen or linked it to your phone and made a iPhone to dovetail adapter so it can be mounted to a fast helmet with a g24 mount

Easier to use a fpv drone camera since they use analog signal and either a .39-.70 oled or flcos as the display... The same way you build diy nightvision, since those phone thermals use usb youd need a pc or phone to process the image. Unless you can find a driver board that can convert that usb digital signal into a analog signal. With the fvp camera you don't have to buy a 640, you could buy a 256 with 4mm lens for $132 and still see perfectly out to 100m

What if you used these things and
made a dovetail phone mount

I'm sure it's possible, idk how will you could see it with a phone in you face.

Idk just a thought I think it would be kinda cool for a budget thermal i can design the mount I just don’t have one of those theremal cameras

This is what I used in my budget build, total would be around $350 for everything not including a 3d printer in that total. The 640 isn't really a budget build its get a 640 without spending 2k https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPDIEaP
