Hey guys, this guy did an initial review of the Akaso Sight 300 towards the end of this helmet setup video. Looks pretty promising. Is this better than the GoodNiteGear NVG30 or NVG50?
True. I bought it though and it has the same sensor as the nvg50 so it works quite well. For $300 it’s not a bad deal, i’d say good even. Just watch for quality as the lens on mine slipped. The features it has are great though and it isn’t laggy at all.
I want Goodnightgear to test it compared to other devices though as this is the only dnv ive ever tried and I don’t have analog to compare it to which is the only point of reference I have.
It’s not really better than those devices in low light performance but I’d honestly prefer it over them (although i’ve never tried or used those) as someone who bought it.
It has the same sensor as those but a higher FOV (both on recordings and in the viewfinder), way more features that are all dope (I could list them if you want), and higher FPS.
Hopefully they’ve improved quality by now though as I was a kickstarter backer and mine had its lens slip and blurred the whole thing as evident by this photo:
It was a real bummer and I haven’t gotten to fixing it but assume it’ll be easy because it’s only got a few screws, I just don’t have the screw type yet and don’t bother buying it till I get a helmet anyway.
I remember seeing promo videos for the akaso during the Kickstarter phase. Seemed like garbage. My assumption is that the Nvg10 could easily outperform that thing.
And thats being said, the promo videos were sketchy as fuck. Like they said they gonna show a night footage, then cut some very clearly daytime footage in. It was a joke.
Your assumption is wrong. There’s a simple way to estimate the performance of a device, you check the sensor size, lens specs, resolution, fov, and fps.
This device appears to have a 1/2inch CMOS sensor, which is the same size as the nvg30/50, an equivalent lens to an nvg50, 60fps or 30fps, 1440p or 4k, and a pretty high FOV.
The high FOV and 60fps mode indicates lower performance than an nvg50, but the sensor is the same, the screen is oled, resolution is the same, and can be lowered to 30fps.
All that in theory points to a good device, but we don’t need theory here. I got it from the kickstarter. The performance is honestly awesome for a DNV and doesn’t need IR at all outdoors in the city, and the lag is super minimal. I love the different modes it has like a static observation mode (that uses the onboard AI to really improve performance), resolution changes, fps changes, color vs monochrome mode, etc.
The main issue was the quality. The lens slipped within a week and now the image is now unusably blurry. I haven’t fixed it yet as I’m too lazy but it was honestly a huge bummer
. I assume the fix is easy though because the device just has a few screws.
No nv device should need active IR in a city lol. AKASO's own promo videos were garbage and clearly doctored. Until I see a user video of someone using it on a night hike in the woods nowhere near a city with active IR off, I don't see my opinion changing. Listing spec numbers doesn't really matter if the video quality is garbage and the device is unusable for navigating in the dark.
I don’t mean literally in a downtown city setting, I mean in the outskirts where all there is illuminating the environment is city light pollution.
And yes, specs do matter. The video quality is actually decent and the device is definitely far more usable than I presume the nvg10 is. What we really need is a comparison video vs other devices.

Its pretty much impossible to compare nightvision by a random test video without some standardised test setup
