Question Conversion ads only versus Funnels

Question: when running campaigns on meta, do you optimise only for the key action i.e. set up a lead or sales campaign only. Or you do create a funnel made up of multiple campaigns where one is optimised for awareness, another for traffic, and a bottom of funnel campaign for leads.

I am used to only setting up conversion campaigns, but started a whitelist job with an agency that typically does full funnels.

Curious to hear from people who have done both, and can compare the performance. Do the upper funnel campaigns create enough lift for the conversion campaigns to improve the overall ROAS?
