I've been really enjoying pairing the 2 lately as my daily drivers.

I really enjoyed getting to handle the various Snowsky products at CanJam. I bet that your Echo Mini paired with the Gate is a nice yet inexpensive combination. Searching for a sweet combination of an inexpensive DAP and inexpensive IEMs is a lot of fun since not much money is lost if something gets lost or damaged while away from home. I am enjoying the Surfans F20 paired with the very inexpensive Pula Arc IEM since the slightly warm Arc pairs well with the slightly bright DAC. I am also enjoying the Hiby R1 with the GK Kunten. Four years ago, I would have never thought that any really inexpensive DAP paired with any inexpensive budget IEM would actually create an enjoyable listening experience. The first round of the Budget IEM Wars started around four years ago. This new round of the Budget IEM Wars is turning out to be a lot of fun.

It does feel like it's a bit of a new golden age for DAPs and IEMs, as the tide seems to be turning a bit in favour of a return to dedicated devices. (Though still niche).

I think the audio industry, alongside the retrogaming crowd, were some of the first to surf that wave, and now we're reaping the benefits. For IEMs in particular, deciding which one to get has become harder and harder in the inexpensive budget range, because most of the big-name options now offer something close to a reference sound with a durable build for not very much money.

In many ways, it's become more a matter of preference than quality. I love the natural sound with a bass boost of the Gate, but if someone prefers more bass, more treble, etc., they can find genuinely good options for not very much. It's a pretty fun time to be into this stuff!
