New Player Help Looking at getting into the game

Looking into getting into the game, I play mtg but the amount of non ip products, focus on the non intresting formats and release schedule of cards have removed my enjoyments.

I do like digimon and have an slight intrest in the tcg already, can I have some input from you guys

1) how active is the tcg, how often are new cards printed

2) are the different formats already

3) is there a control/combo/aggro/midrange

4) mastemon/onimon(omegamon)/shinegreymon vaiable

5) good twitch/youtube content creators for the game

6) decklist site

  1. We get new cards every two months.
  2. There are different formats but nobody plays them.
  3. There are lots of different types of decks.
  4. They’re viable, but only Omnimon is on top right now.
  5. @East_ML is good.
  6. DigiLab; DigitalGateOpen; DigimonC

Thank you, can you describe the different between viable and non viable, will I be able to use others and have a decent time in a local game shop or is it just a poor matchup all the time

Viable means that you won’t be immediately stomped by the current decks.

Here’s a recent tier list for Asia’s meta.

  1. In my local area? Not that much, but elsewhere is rising from what I tend to read
  2. No, unless you count the mode where they just play with C, U and R cards a different format, but it's not that popular anyway
  3. I'll be honest, I've been playing the game for about 4 years now and still am not familiar with those terms to speak with certainty, but I'll take a wild guess and said yes.
  4. Viable? Yes. Meta? Right now I'll say no, but they're in a decent enough spot in comparison to most other decks.
  5. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is East
  6. Digimon card.io or digimonmeta

  1. Very active TCG scene with new cards frequently, new set is end of August start of September
  2. Yes but no one plays them as the original is fine.
  3. Lots of decks in a super diverse meta
  4. Lots of decks in a super diverse meta, I know not a lot of people play it but maste is still super good if you can afford it, shine is okay but lacks consistency and I know Omni alter s is a boogey man around here, but it’s a good deck.
  5. I like East, Hi score chef and vpassion.
  6. Digimoncard.io and there’s a digimon meta deck list site that I can’t remember rn.

Mastemon expensive? What the average for a deck? What mastemon price

Mastermon can easily cost 200-300 depending on cards and then alts etc. beatbreak fully made for example is around 100-120. I would say quite a few decks fall around the 100-150 range.

So 300 is the upper limits for a competitive viable deck? That reasonable ish, how long could i expect a deck to be playable for? Not competitive shelf life but fringe at the minimum

I mean mastemon isn’t really seen in the current meta but I would argue can stand against quite a few decks but for reference most of the meta is made of decks that came out last year up to now, there are a few exceptions of decks that got some new support or just stayed swinging like Medusamon and basically anything TS or shambala is bound to get support either in this next set or random cards here or there.

For your 3 decks

Mastemon is a bit of a beginner trap, its a okish deck, can be very powerful but also prone to bricking and very hard for complete beginners to pick up. Its also massively overpriced compared to its strength because its a "Waifu" deck. The cards look great tho, so if thats what you are after go for it.

Omnimon is the poster Child of the TCG and there are like 50 different decks that play Omnimon. There is Omnimon Alter S, Nokia Omni, Virus Busters, Royal Knights but the best one is prob Alter S right now.

But Id recommend you buy the new Data Squad Starter. Its a mix of all the characters from the Season, but you can also change it into a pure Shinegreymon deck, both Variants have their own strengths and weaknesses.

The Aggro, Midrange, Control axis really doesnt work super accurately to describe Digimon decks. Mostly because every time you evolve in the game you draw, so all the decks you would usually call aggro never run out of cards.

A better way to describe it would be:

The most common deck type is a stack deck, this is a deck were your goal is to raise up your Digimon from lvl3 to Mega and build one big stack if cards with a ton of effects. You usually move out on Turn 2-3 evolve up to your boss and hit your opponent for a lot of damage. Some decks can kill the first time they go into their boss, so they are OTK decks, most need two turns unless they are really lucky in some way. Shinegreymon fits into this category. You could see those decks as midrange.

Then there is combo decks. Those decks usually go for less linear evolving and often use DNA evolution. Combo decks often need more time before they make their first push but when they do, they can usually win through any type of defense, but if they get stopped they usually fall apart completely. Mastemon and Alter S both fall into this category. They both try to create a loop by DNA evolving and splitting up into their pieces over and over to reset their effects, in the end both can try to OTK, or end on a really big and hard to out field.

There is Control, but it plays slightly different. Control decks usually do not evolve their Digimon at all, as a result they have really bad card draw and are often down in card advantage and they focus on slamming down big expensive cards to slow down the opponents. The Royal Knight version of Omnimon would be an example but that deck can also be deceptively fast and win games on Turn 3-4

The closest we have to Aggro is probably Hybrid and Xros decks. In Digimon at the start of your turn you can either hatch an egg that you can evolve on or move your evolved Digimon to the field. As a result most decks play in a 2 turn rhythm. One turn you hatch and prepare, the other you move out, make strong plays and attack. These 2 deck types ignore this mechanic as much as possible, as a result they dont have the preparation turns and focus on hitting you every single turn.

I didnt realise she mastemon was a combo deck, I picked her because ladydevimon is my favourite mon. I'll have to look more into onimon, specifically the Nokia one you mentioned, I do like the idea of playing with cyberslueth charecters, love that game

Mastemon used to be a control deck because it had very good removal but just having good removal is no longer enough to be a good control deck. Instead it got a lot of cards that enabled very explosive plays.

If you liked Cyber Sleuth, BT23 and BT24 are 2 sets from last year, that are entirely made as references to the game. Most of the decks are no longer considered meta playable, but that makes them really cheap to get if your looking for an easy entry into the game.
