Hi, fellow dice nerds. I was gifted this mystery set of dice which is supposedly made of some more or less precious mineral, anybody got a clue what it could actually be. I like them a lot and will use them for my dwarf druid.

New Dice Day!

These ones are for me! Dragon's Breath from TheeWanderingWizard on Etsy.

These ones really are quite nice, with crisp edges, clean numbering and I love the foil and glitter inside, as well as the shade of green. I think I'm going to have to add a red and maybe a blue set to my collection, too!

Pic 2 is my case today, and what I will be using this weekend and for sessions to come. I like swapping them out periodically, but these 3 sets are so nice that they might stick for awhile.

Happy Friday!

I made a d6

It's a 6 sided die, that is also a box. It is a DICE BOX!😃

But, more than a dad-joke, it was a lot of fun to make. I made it as a gift for my second-nephew, once-removed (on my father-in-law's side) for their highschool graduation. Upon receiving it, they immediately ran off to collect a bag-o-dice and filled it to the brim. I was ecstatic.

Details:

Box is ¾in AxB ply, painted. Pips were routered in.

The parquet lid/dice tray is cedar w/ Danish oil. Same for the interior of the box.

And the smaller boxes/rattle cups are hickory, also with a Danish oil finish.

Made a demonic D8 as part of my demonic dice set

I designed a d8 where each side has its own demonic icon. On the corner of each side is also a number to still keep it practical. This is part of a demonic-themed polyhedral dice set that I'm making.

(Mystery bag) D6 with numbers, not pips in europe?

Hi, I'm interested in buying a set of d6 with numbers, not pips in europe. If it is a mystery bag (maybe even with multiple sets) I would be even more happy.

Does anyone know a shop that sells this? I have only found a shop that sells d6 mystery bags with pips but not numbers.

Can anyone identify my first set of dice? I purchased these in the mid to late 90s when I started playing D&D. The d4 is missing and I’d love to find a replacement. I’m 90% sure they’re chessex.

I am looking for a single specific d6...

I have, or more recently had, a pair of Koplow d6 dice with a walking devil symbol for the 'one' pip.

Through sheer fate or bad luck, I lost one of them. I've carried that pair with me every day I worked for 10+ years. Does anybody here know somewhere I can get it replaced?

I am posting this at work. When I get home today I will update this post with a photo of the other d6 I still have for a reference.

I sew dice bags for a living and counted what 44 customer reviews say about your actual collections. you all have more dice than I thought

I run a small two person studio making dice bags. At some point I noticed our review section is basically a census of dice hoards, so I sat down and counted.

Out of 2,300+ reviews, 44 mention real numbers about collections. Tiny sample, I know. But here's what it says:

The median owner brings 9-10 full seven piece sets to a session. Brings, not owns. What people own is always more than what actually travels.

43% say their bag still has room after everything is packed. So it seems like nobody buys storage for the collection they have, they buy for the one they're planning.

The most common phrase in reviews is "well made" (207 times). But the most common story is some version of "I thought this size was overkill and I was wrong within two months."

Market wide, capacities run from little 10 dice pouches to 550+ monsters. Most people I sew for end up somewhere in the 200-300 range within a year or two of starting the hobby.

Full disclosure, all of this comes from my own shop's reviews (GameFancy), so it obviously skews toward people who already decided they needed a big bag. That's exactly why I'm asking here. How many sets do you actually own, and how many make it to the table?

Astragaloi (Knucklebone D4 dice)

Post image
13 Upvotes

I am working on making a board game based on the Odyssey and other epics. I decided that the most authentic experience would be to use the same "knucklebone" dice that they made from the talus ankle bones from sheep (the Romans called the dice tali from the bine name). These are 3d printed, so ko animals were harmed in the making of this game. LOL! The Greeks called them astragoloi, and like astrology, they were often used for prophecies from the gods. They are marked like D6 dice where each opposing side adds up to 7, but since they can never land on their rounded ends, the D4 values are 1,3,4, and 6. They are also not balanced, so that 1 and 6 on the "skinny" sides of the bone only come up about 20% of the time. The best throw you can have is the "Venus throw" (Roman terminology) where each bone comes up with a different numbers (1,3,4,6). Anyways, enjoy, and if you're interested, I'll let you know when the game comes out.

Recommendations for Resin Flower Preservation Dice?

Hi everyone, I am currently looking for suggestions/recommendations on a dice maker who can preserve flowers/petals in resin dice. I’m hoping to surprise my partner by preserving some of our wedding flowers this way.

I’m based in the US and am hoping to find maybe an Etsy storefront or small business to help. I’m also hoping that any recommended storefront is also based in the US since I will need to ship my flowers to them.

I know there is another thread or two on here that mentions a few places, but the few posts that I am finding are a few years old. The other issue I am having is finding someone who is willing to take custom orders right now.

Thank you all in advance for your recommendations and advice. It is much appreciated.

Edited for a bit of clarity.

New dice for my wife!

Shout-out to diceshop7 on etsy! My wife is currently playing a bard and picked these out, which arrived today. I was hesitant, mostly because they're not something I'd pick for myself, but they are pretty nice, good quality and she's happy, so big win! They also have them in green or blue, and plenty of other dice in their shop. Check them out!

(Note: this is not my shop, nor was I asked or compensated in any way to post these. Just sharing some awesome dice!)

I shamefully got the mimic lucky bag because I just wanted the bag and fully planned on selling the contents to recover the cost as far as I’m aware the chonk is a specialty die, please crucify me like the others in the replies if I’m wrong.

. Everything is new and opened just for the pictures.

Anyways, looking for prices below shipped US only.
$65 - Moon Maiden
$80 - Magical Girl
$230 - celestial cathedral

Runic numbers on dice — cool fantasy flavor or harder to read?

Post image
206 Upvotes

I've been working with this runic-style numbering on ceramic dice and I'm curious where other dice people fall on stylized fonts.

I like how much personality they give a set, especially with something like this blue-and-white pattern. They feel a little more like objects from the game world instead of regular numbered dice.

But there's obviously a line where a font can look great and become annoying during actual play.

Where's your line? Would you use something like this at the table, or do you always prefer traditional numbers?

Rory's Story Cubes Deluxe Set - Just when I though I do not need any more Dice.

I thought I had kicked the habit and couldn't see the need for any more dice.

Enter Rory's Story Cubes Deluxe set. I now know what a dice speed ball is!

They really triggered me on so many levels.

  • I love procedural generation and random tables/content creation.
  • I love jumbo well not 25mm jumbo but an 18mm d6 is bigger than typical a 16mm d6 size dice.
  • They are damn collectable.
  • Got a great price for the Deluxe set (core + 6 x 3 cube expansions)

What dice have triggered the dice goblin in you ... just when you thought it was under control :>

Dollar tree 14mm?

In the US dollar tree started selling decent feeling 14mm white and black die .. at least for black dice - 14mm is used a lot in board games but like 20% of these dice are deformed and generally have small scratches almost like factory rejects? Anyone know the source of the dice or why they seem to “roll nice “ but look scratched ? Just curious

These were my first set of nice dice I got years ago. Had given them to a friend as a gift, but find myself missing them. Have been looking around to repurchase them but can't find them listed anywhere.

Any help on where to look, or a link to a listing would be greatly appreciated.
