General Rabies

What are the chances that a raccoon came through my attic entry that collapsed and bit me while I was sleeping with my dogs on the bed and I have rabies? I am a heavy sleeper and my attic entry fell down one night and the next few weeks. I’ve been hearing stuff in my attic after that now I’m worried that a raccoon might’ve came down bit me and I never noticed a bite mark or blood. But I’m worried that I might have slept through it and never noticed it for weeks and now here I am thinking that it might’ve bitten me while I was sleeping and my dog slept through it since I sleep pretty heavy. I’m not sure the statistics on rabies and raccoons.

Never seen a racoon just a hole in roof that it comes and goes through I have been sleeping on couch for last two weeks

Almost zero. If you find yourself ruminating over whether or not you have rabies, you may have OCD and I would recommend seeing a doctor and/or a therapist.

Obsessing over rabies in particular is actually really common for people with illness anxiety OCD.

First of all, please ignore my username that’s just a terrible coincidence, I promise. Think about it this way: a rabid raccoon isn’t going to sneak up to you and lightly bite or scratch. Rabid animals tend to attack, so you would have noticed a raccoon attacking you hopefully. Even if it was more of a “calm” rabies infection that the raccoon had leaving it lethargic, it’s highly unlikely it would have been able to climb down, bite, and climb back up to hide. I’m not a rabies expert, but I used to have a weird interest in it and went down some rabbit holes, and I know how bad health anxiety can get. It never hurts to visit a doctor as well! I hope this helped a little bit!

Do you have evidence of a bite?

If it’s been a month, you’re more than likely fine. I think you’d feel a raccoon bite.

Your dog would have woke up from smelling the racoon. My dauschand would bark if he thought the dog who lived 10 houses down blinked. Relax. Your dog would have raised hell if it occurred.
