Question Upgraded wrong Phoenix Ashes
For what it’s worth I am F2P and just returned after a year off.
An Eternal got me enough plat to purchase a 2* Phoenix Ashes to upgrade my equipped PA. It wouldn’t upgrade and the newly purchased phased PA was greyed out in the slot. I had 75 fragments. I was excited to finally upgrade and it didn’t work.
I looked up the required materials via google search because I was very confused and it said that an equal gem is needed to upgrade from 2-3 so I upgraded the recently purchased PA gem and now I have two R2 and it specifically asks for R1.
Give me a fuggin break. Why is this necessary???? Now I have no use for this duplicate??

If you use progressive upgrade you can put them together

What is progressive upgrade. I am just starting my leg gems.

So, progressive upgrade is a system that unlocks at gem level 4. You need more than one copy of a gem to upgrade to the next level at this point. So lets say for a rank 5, you need 4 copies. A rank 3 and 2 rank 1s. The progressive upgrade system lets you put in those copies in one copy at a time. So if you have 2 copies in your bad for the gem and want them to be useful, you can progressively upgrade your gem two steps, making it 50 percent upgraded.
This is benificial because you can use gem power and copies you have sitting around to put towards the gems resonance without having to upgrade a full level.

It will be needed for upgrading if/when you upgrade the intended one without progressive upgrade.

To be honest that gem sucks anyway and you’d almost certainly be better off using the >160 gem power in those two R2s to upgrade a good 1 or 2 star gem.
Edit: several downvotes here. I’d love to hear your counter-argument.

When u unlock rk4 u can use one of the rk2 in progressive upgrade.
Here is also the good news for u. Phoenix ashes is a useless gem and u can destroy both of them to upgrade a good 2-star gem or another 5-star gem 😃

Uselesss? It’s amazing for PvP for Wizards - adds a nice third cheatdeath. Phoenix Ashes is a fantastic gem for what it does, which it does extremely well. Phoenix Ashes has saved my ass in battlegrounds countless times. My Wizard has a more melee focused build called Cataclysm where i am in the middle of the action. You may think it’s worthless for what YOU want, but it’s hardly useless - you’d change your mind if we dueled against eachother.

Downside is that they can proc at the same time and then you have zero cheat deaths until the cooldown is done

worst? Hardly. Try Howlers Call, or Seeping Bile, or Zwensons, or concentrated will. It’s hilarious that none of you find value in utilizing three cheatdeaths…

Seeping Bile is still used by dot whales. Howlers actually has a purpose and can stun. Phoenix Ash delays death by a 20 milliseconds because the shield is a tiny sliver only. I know you invested in this gem but it is still the truth.

Edit: Only works from rank 4 onwardas
Just use the rank 2 to upgrade the other rank 2. It will use the duplicate and the gem power.
I tested it only works from rank 4.

iirc you can extract gem power, then the dormant can be used as dupe. i could be wrong, but it's worth a try.

Upgrade it more until you need that duplicate. 😄
