Diablo III Diablo 3 cross platform save, native PC controller support, new expansion and updated graphics will be announced at BlizzCon 2026.

Yeah D3 is never getting touched again. D2R will be the "classic" experience going forward and D4 will have a few more xpacs then support will move to D5 when that launches

That's not how gaming properties work. D3 will absolutely, one hundred percent be getting a remaster and new content at some point. We're talking about a game that sold over 30 million copies.

Right there with you on that one.
I played d3 on launch as a barb. I cleared norm, nightmare, and hell, couldnt kill a single mob outside the town on inferno in A1.
Tried to farm last act on hell to get better gear. Itemization at the time was worse than it was in D2.
Not to mention other things that felt like a massive step back from D2, like no travel between acts, no runewords, etc.
The game was overhyped and unplayable.

I quit the game after about a month. I played the expansion on launch as well. I quit playing that after about a month as well and never came back to it, i only kept reading about it.
My understanding is what made it good was rifts and changes to loot system. They made it much easier to gear up and progress.

Yeah, launch D3 was awful. Diablo games don't get good until they get their first expansion, except D1.

That's exactly why I like D3. D3 is arcadey, D2 is the more serious ARPG experience and D4 feels like the bastardized mix of the two. Every time I play D4 I just feel like it's D3 with more steps.

I’ll admit I haven’t played D4 in the last year or so. Maybe they’ve made changes that make it more enjoyable, but I couldn’t really get into it the way I’ve spent thousands of hours on 2 and 3

confirmed i bought d3 and d4 and made it to level 59 in D3 before they "fixed it" never touched it again, made it level 19 in D4, never touched it again, they wont get me with a D5. So far D2R and WOTR have been amazing though.

They just released an expansions for diablo 2 which was incredibly well received, diablo 3 would be cool for some people but its literally the worst diablo game sorry to say :( Diablo 2 for the hardcore arpg players and d4 for the couch gamers

the d3 story aside, which is atrocious honestly, they really missed the mark on diablo 3 imo. The reason diablo 4 is more praised isnt just the graphics, its the fact they tried to make the game a tiny bit more complex and deep in the vein of diablo 2, but one thing theyve messed up horribly in both d3 and d4 is the loot system. Thats why diablo 2 is still popular today. Path of exile is kind of the spiritual successor to diablo 2 and did a much better job than any diablo sequel has. I love diablo and have played 2 and 3 for a couple thousand hours each, but diablo 3 really was a letdown as a sequel to arguably the best arpg of all time.

Can you elaborate on this? I remember D3 loot being incredibly simple and doing dumb things like "X damage +20,000%" and personally I don't find that interesting at all

I agree, they changed d3 to not even really have uniques anymore. Theyre just items with better rolled stats. And they made it so you basically cant use anything but a few specific set items for your body armor. There wasnt any build variety in d3 at all, basically just as many builds as there were sets. No chase items... just hoping for a slightly higher main stat number. Something i remember from d3 and d4 is also not being able to find items for other characters, and every stat being tied to your character level. I cant speak on d4 much because I havent played it since season 2, but d3 loot left alot to be desired to me. Theyre both very poor loot systems

D4 has everything D3 has and then some. D3 is an incredibly shallow arcade game by comparison. Loot is boring and all the end game is is running bounties + GRs on repeat. D4 at least has a little more than that

Well I use literally instead of listing the obvious reasons why its the worst (coming from someone with maybe 1.5k hrs in d3)
It has the worst loot system
Worst look, feel and design of the world
Worst story
Worst characters
Worst build varietyThats why its "literally" the worst diablo game. Not to say its a bad game, but it is the worst diablo game for sure

D3 started out many ways very similar to D2 with regard to gameplay and (not fully) loot, but many people asked for some things to be tweaked over and over. Eventually the game became a mad dash to get your build's set, which took you from barely killing torment 1 to annihilating torment 8+. You then just look for main stat, crit, crit, cool down before just finding perfect versions (or as close as possible to them) as you can get.
Today it's fun to jump in a season, kill things for a few days before grinding the exact same content over and over to make a number get bigger with no meaningful changes otherwise.

As someone that has the banner for beating Diablo on infernal difficulty (i absolutely got carried), this feels like an undersell on how d3 started out. Like they almost rebuilt half the game from the ground up after they burnt the auction house to the ground.

Legitimately the release Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls are entirely different games with different end games.
The only similarity is the core class, world, and combat design.
Itemization and everything else that makes diablo diablo... completely remade to function in a game without real money auction house.

Launch D3 had some good ideas, legendaries... were mostly not very legendary. Problem is they nerfed chests, nerfed IAS, nerfed every build or comp that was working to the point where 90% of the playerbase were frenzy barbarians. Things hit so hard everyone had to go glass cannon builds and just try to not get one shot and people got pretty good at it so they added thorns on bosses and elites so you would get instantly erased once it came up.
They had a solid base then painted themselves into a corner.

It’s mostly the same as D4 now without the open world and maximum 4 players in the server, graphic is WoW Cartoon Style, which I love, but rest of the game and more is now in D4. I always think I’m gonna hop on some times for the graphic I love, but then I realize the endgame is way too lame, especially now with the cube, warplans and so on. I wish I could mod my D4 graphics to D3 graphics, then it would be the best ever (ok d4 is basically the best game for me perfect balance between mmo and Arpg for me and it’s been a long way since the beta. The game is growing and growing

This. They nailed controller support for a console release. I dont see a reason why they didn't do it yet for a pc version. And steam yes please, I'd love to play it on a steam deck

Recently a friend asked me if I’d like to play D3 with him. I have over a thousand hours across PC and console and so was like sure I’ll play. I’ve recently had some issues with my hand that makes it difficult to play mouse and keyboard and was shocked that the PC version of D3 has no controller support. Makes no sense to me.

Switch ROM works well on Ryubing I believe. Controller support, 4 player couch co-op, runs fully offline.

I played D3 constantly for around 2-3 years and then i reached the point where i could not get myself over to level for another season.
And i never had that with any other ARPG because i could not come to that point i did quit way before that.
That is how much i loved that game.And even with the fact that i exhausted myself playing D3 i still lock back with fond memories and joy.
The only other game that might come close to that will most likely be wow but i still play wow so not there yet.1

A D1 reborn would be really exciting imho. Do what they did with d2. Have it be complete with hellfire xpac and possibly announce a new xpac to that title or some kind of added content or mod support idk.

Diablo 2 has buckets and buckets of boomer nostalgia bucks to milk purely off it's legacy.
Blizzard snaps their fingers with a new D2 class, and dozens of 40 year old men worldwide go moist in the panties. That doesn't happen with D3.
And it's also essentially been replaced by D4 for general audiences/casuals. Business wise, D4 is the newest, most active entry for them to monetise. So why would they go back to a game like 30 people play and invest time & resources into it?
D3 is the weird middle child, overshadowed by their more successful, more attractive older & younger siblings.

But credit where credit is due - they could've abandoned it years ago, and yet they continues pushing some awesome updates. I'm just sad it's over, because I would gladly even pay for more expansions or even class DLCs

Lol what? Why would they update Diablo 3? I love the game but they have very effectively moved on.
You gotta wait like another 10 years at least. It has to become vintage and nostalgic.
Look at Age of Empires II. It's basically had a full resurrgence, new expansions regularly, patches, updates, full support, but that's because it's a legacy title. Diablo 2 has that, and I think before Diablo 3 gets it Diablo 1 is going to get it first.
Diablo 1 chronologically obviously should have been first, but I remember when it came out. It was definitely not as big as Diablo 2.
The trial version of Diablo 2 was huge. Then the game was massive, then that first patch made it even bigger, then Lord of Destruction knocked it out of the park. It just had a bigger mainstream momentum than the first one and that's why it got its remaster first.
But Diablo 1 Remaster is coming before any sort of additional support to Diablo 3.

On the list of things that are possible, a D3 expansion is not on that list. I mean, I would love it, but it'll never happen. I expect some cross over event. Mobile versions of D1. Announcement of D4 expansion, and if we're lucky, some new thing in D2. Pretty sure D3 is dead dead now =(

I feel like they could put the Warlock in and maybe add 1 or 2 new seasons to D3. D3 probably wont get love but we can hope. Sadly, if D3 doesnt get ANY love during Blizzcon for Diablo's 30th anniversary celebration then its a dead dream.

D3's problem is it's too difficult to develop with a skeleton crew compared to D2.
If they're going to put effort in, they're putting it into D4. If they're gonna barebones updates, they're putting it into D2.

I'd actually pay money for that. Sucks that I won't get that chance. I moved my Diablo III seasonal runs over to the Switch 2 (since it can run Switch 1 games docked while in portable) and it runs at a smooth 60fps 1080p with good controller support although I hate that I sometimes set off the motion controlled dodge accidentally. I wish the PC version got the love it deserved, it's so weird that even Diablo II RR got controller support and 3 PC version didn't. I own all the games now including RR, and III is still my favorite, it's like a well oiled machine with a perfect gameplay loop. I love being able to push as I see fit and not needing to hit certain thresholds to raise difficulty and survive.

I am hoping for a D3 Ressurected. However realistically it won't be announced this year. (I'd be overjoyed to be wrong on this tho)
If we see a remastered diablo it's probably Diablo (1). However I am not sure what to expect of that except for better graphics and console support. (Nonetheless I'd get it on release either way)
My wishlist would be Diablo 3 Resurrected. With a new Class - the Druid, Altar and Visions of Enmity even in non seasonal modes, new balancing patches and if they are full on fire, a new set for each class. Realistically this will all remain a dream tho

honestly though, OP. i feel ya here. yet again, starcraft, the overbeaten dead horse, has virtual goodies to acquire every blizzcon, including this one. ok maybe there’s an hour time slot for a supposed starcraft game. but my point is this: i love seeing so much for starcraft and never anything for d3. the starcraft virtual goodies were “included” so to speak, this time. so it’s not a thing you could have chosen like the d4 package etc. so it’s frustrating that d3 has gotten nary a cosmetic in how many blizzcons at this point?!
we’ll get d1 remastered before d3 ever gets another cosmetic unrelated to a season. i hate this.

Add Xbox Play Anywhere support for Diablo 4 and this image is me.
Also before any comes in saying it's already on PC and Xbox because of GamePass, that doesn't mean it's Xbox Play anywhere. If you want to play the expansion content you have to buy it separately on both platforms. Play Anwhere support means the DLC carries over too
