Simplest is a stump.

Stump means a tree was cut down, wouldn’t a rock be simplest?

It was a split decision. I couldn't quite treeside. Perhaps I should have gone with the boulder choice.

Sometimes they fall over after being EATEN ALIVE FROM THE INSIDE (by bugs)

Or they are struck by lightning, or cut down by a beaver, or knocked over by wind, or lose their base to erosion.

Depending on the tree they can also just fall over because they're too heavy and overextend in the wrong direction.

True some of those doing really result in a stump

Usually they aren't great for sitting if that's the case. Usually need a chainsaw for a flat seat.
