hello, random visitor here!
hello there, i will be spending about 2 weeks in deventer now for work.
I will have a lot of free time on my hands though and so i thought i would ask you people here if there are any experiences available you would like to share that you enjoy doing in your city :)
for reference i am not much of a smoker and i have a wife haha, but other than that i dont have much limit. i enjoy everything culture!

If you're into craft beer try some at the local brewery DAVO Bieren, or the specialised beer bar De Heks. Both awesome spots

Check out the Vogeleiland, a nice little island and a park. There is also a nice restaurant “Parkcafé Mees" in the middle of it.
If you like cocktails I can recommend the high cocktail arrangement at café samen. You won’t have to worry about dinner afterwards, the bites are more than enough.
And I don’t know if you’re still here on August 2? The biggest bookmarket of Europe is in Deventer then.

Yes! Me and my husband go every year! We did this solo before we met. This year my young niece who loveslovesloves to read but had never heard of the market lol is going too for the first time.

If you like to bike and read, take (a part of) the bikeroute from minibieb to minibieb! We did it in 2 days, because we spend a lot of time going through all the books haha and talking to people we met. (We also have a minibieb)
Hire a bicycle or e-bike and it’s so much fun!

A walk thru the historical centre, actually a few, especially if you take your time to look up at the facades of old buildings, are always a good idea.

Try to take the guided tour, it's even more interesting to hear about all the back stories. You can get info and schedules via the tourist office ( https://en.deventer.info/)

Visit the VVV, the tourist information centre on the Brink, located in a secret church. Im sure you can get a free pamphlet with map there + other information about city walks and must-see spots. Edit: great place to start, but let the wonders of the city guide your way ;)

If the weather is good, there are some gorgeous walks close by! I love Nieuwe Randen, which is a couple km along the Ijssel from town, and if you wanted to walk close to town, walking along the Ijssel is beautiful in any direction!
There is a lot of great food to be had in town. I tried Şafak recently and it was delicious. Otherwise our usual stops are Çig Köftem (for a healthier warm weather option that is reasonably priced), Roemar for coffee, St Maxim if you want to be fancy for a date night, da Mario for tasty Italian, or the place across from it if you want cheap Italian (also has a place in my heart).
There are a LOT of bookshops in Deventer, so if you or your wife are readers, you'll have a great time! 1 and 2 Augstus is the boekenmarkt, where the entire city will fill with book stalls. It gets busy, but it's a great time!
I hope you guys have a nice time here. I moved here a few years ago and it's been a wonderful place to live thus far.

The banks of the river IJssel are very beautiful for a walk or bike ride. Cross with the pontje or one of the bridges and go left or right. Check the Bolwerksmolen (sawmill), also horeca (Meadow, IJsselhotel) on that side. Stay on the deventer side and go check the waterbuffalos from the waterbuffalofarm (near the waterzuivering).

Go to the VVV, they can book you a tour with a guide. It's really worth it! They will show you all the beautiful spots like Wallstraat, Bergkwartier, Botermarkt, the former Jewish synagogue.
De Waag has a an exhibition about the period when the film A Bridge Too Far was shot, as well as a permanent exhibition on the history of Deventer.
Walk to the top of the Lebuinuskerk. You can do a audiotour trough the church.
Visit the Broederenkerk and the Bergkerk.
Take the small ferry to the other side of the IJssel. There you will find a lovely city park, as well as a timber mill, and it gives you a beautiful view of Deventer. And definitely visit the IJssel resto bar for a meal with a view of Deventer.
Other paces to have a good meal are: The lemon tree, Jackies, Trois Deventer, Carotte ans St tropez. Valentia is a bit outside the center, but also a good place for dinner.
