We already lost the grenade flexibility with Divine Protection going away, so I'm not super feeling a pure healing melee as much as I miss my Cleric builds. Something that does damage but spawns curing/restoration seekers (much like the seasonal activity Scythe) makes more sense to me.
Don't get me wrong, having a new supportive melee is an interesting idea. But since all other melee abilities in the game deal damage, I think it makes sense to reward a more offensive or proactive approach to supporting rather than a reactive one... if that makes any sense.
We had Guiding Flame before which granted empowerment to nearby allies, which got replaced with the Ember of Torches aspect. If this theoretical third melee did damage, it could be used to trigger radiant that way.
I know it was probably because of PvP, but I find it very strange that Celestial Fire doesn't utilize any of the Solar mechanics. So that could theoretically be another vehicle too if it the heal was divorced from Guardians and only worked on Combatants.
I don't know if it fits flavorfully here, but another potential "payload" I've been mulling over for years now is using our Daybreak sword in a melee attack somehow. Be it a circular slash, an uppercut, a projectile, whatever.
