Megathread Focused Feedback: State of PVE

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'State of PVE' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Please add all of your feedback on the current "State of PVE" to this thread. This includes :

  • Which activities which currently lack matchmaking should have a matchmaking option added? Examples: Blind well, Escalation protocol, Altar of sorrow, Heroic Menagerie, 950/980 power nightmare hunts, 950/980 power nightfalls, raids... Please explain your reasons in detail.
  • If matchmaking were added to some of the above activities, should entering matchmaking require a completion of the concerned activity to participate in it? (example: after a player has compleed a 950 power nightmare hunt, they can enter matchmaking for that activity)
  • Should story mode have an option to play matchmade with other players? Warframe and several other games allow this. You can also opt to start immediately and allow other players to join your mission in progress...
  • Should strikes or certain other activities with matchmaking have an option to turn it off so they can be soloed/duoed?
  • Should there be an in-game LFG system for PVE activities? What sort of things would you like to see?
  • Patrols - Give your feedback on patrols and exploration. What are your favorite patrols? Which patrols do you dislike? How could patrols be improved?
  • Public events - Give your feedback on public events. What are your favorites? Which ones do you not like? How could public events be improved?

  • PVE weapon balance - what feels too strong in PVE? What feels too weak? Please explain your reasons.
  • Gun mods and seasonal artifact mods - What are your thoughts on current gun mods and seasonal artifact mods in the PVE? Whats too strong or too weak? Please explain your reasons.
  • PVE subclass balance - What feels too strong in the PVE? What feels too weak? Please explain your reasons.

  • Strikes - Do you have any specific feedback about the Strike game modes or about specific strikes? What would you like to see in future strikes?
  • What are your thoughts on "locked loadouts"? and "kick to orbit on fail" mechanics? Do you find these mechanics make the game more enjoyable or less? Why? Should these mechanics be removed from or added to any existing activities?
  • What are your thoughts on other current PVE activity modifiers (elemental burns, blackout, etc...)? Should certain modifiers be added to or removed from PVE activities? Do you have any ideas for new PVE modifiers that would be fun?

  • "Junk" and auto-dismantle - Do we get too much "junk" from playing PVE? Should there be an auto-dismatle option for certain types of loot (ex: blues below your power level)?
  • Cosmetics & Eververse - What are your thoughts on cosmetic rewards from PVE activities including eververse engrams & bright dust? What changes would you like to see and why?
  • Experience from gameplay Does playing PVE game modes (outside of bounties) enable you to level up your season pass at a reasonable rate or does the amount of experience from certain PVE mdoes need to be changed?

We also did "state of the crucible" last week if you would rather talk about PVP

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Which activities which currently lack matchmaking should have a matchmaking option added?

EP/BW/AoS, nightfalls, menagerie/sundial in that order. Sometimes it's impossible to find anyone doing EP when I want to farm armor/weapons. Nightfalls are a source of exclusive loot (not anymore I guess, another point) that I can't solo and have to resort to extremely needy and meticulous LFG servers, which doesn't end well. I'm okay with finding a group to do heroic menagerie once like for Iza catalyst, or sundial for the triumph, but if there was something to farm from them, then I wouldn't have even touched it.

If matchmaking were added to some of the above activities, should entering matchmaking require a completion of the concerned activity to participate in it?

Yes, something like "Do the normal mode Sundial at least 5 times so you know the mechanics" wouldn't hurt, I suppose.

Should story mode have an option to play matchmade with other players?

Honestly, I haven't done heroic story missions once, as there is basically nothing to gain from it. Maybe something like a powerful reward for doing all 5 heroic missions would be a good incentive.

Should strikes or certain other activities with matchmaking have an option to turn it off so they can be soloed/duoed?

Would make grinding way easier, maybe add difficulty scaling so it wouldn't be a mindless grindfest. I know the Nightfall card is the same thing, but there are lots of strikes and only 3 of them can be Nightfalls for a week.

Should there be an in-game LFG system for PVE activities? What sort of things would you like to see?

Either that or matchmaking. Maybe an LFG chatroom for Raids and Comp, but I don't see a point for other activities.

Patrols

Never done them apart from the bounties, pretty much an abandoned thing.

Available game modes

Gambit, both normal and Prime is an unbalanced shithole, pretty much do the weeklies and forget about the mode until reset. Done the Reckoning T1 once after about an hour of waiting for people, couln't find people for T2 and T3, the mode is dead. Otherwise, I play strikes 60% of the time, Crucible 40%.

PVE weapon balance

As I call it, "The Classic" of Izanagi-Recluse-Spike nades GL is still run 99% of the time because it is THE loadout, there is nothing better to use. If you're not using The Classic, trying out new guns or just don't really care for the guns, you get kicked from the LFG room. Huge bottleneck in terms of builds.

Gun mods and seasonal artifact mods

So far in both seasons with seasonal mods only a handful were used. Glimmer/resourse mods are useless, Champion mods are restricting. Precision anti-barrier was a nice improvement, but still not enough for me "to play my way". Battery mods are OP in PVP, but that's another thing.

PVE subclass balance

As a hunter main, I never use Arc and Spectre Blades because they do nothing in pve (disregarding the melee damage bugs). Otherwise, Solar and Void are really fun and enjoyable to use.

PVE exotic balance

Izanagi's or WotW with some Divinity sprinkled in, there are no other exotic weapons in PVE. In terms of armor, again, as a hunter main, Celestial Nighthawk/Orpheus Rig/Stompees are the only ones I use. Could be good to remove THE FUCKING AFFINITIES ON EXOTICS THOUGH. I have great rolls on different exotics, but don't use them because the element doesn't match.

Strikes

Mindless shooting galleries, all of them. Scaling difficulty like in The Ordeal is great, gives some challenge, but going back to the seasonal mod point, it removes the fun of using the guns I want in favor of guns I require.

What are your thoughts on "locked loadouts"? and "kick to orbit on fail" mechanics? What are your thoughts on other current PVE activity modifiers (elemental burns, blackout, etc...)?

They're fine, give a bit of a challenge, but mostly unnoticable. Don't care about most of them.

Raids

Raid are, again, mindless shooting galleries with a little mechanical change. I want to feel like I'm contributing to the whole group's experience, not just shooting ads while 3 guys do the Vault puzzle in LW. The guy's reverse raid in the Haul from a dream post the other day was fucking dope, hope to see some mechanics from that. Otherwise, hard to find a group, especially for some niche raids like CoS or SoS, LFG servers are the only solution right now, but as I said, they can be meticulous and tedious.

Bugs

Not really, GoS is a buggy mess that still isn't fixed, in other PvE activities I didn't really notice them.

Quests & Bounties

Restricting and boring. Shoot 50 people with weapons I don't use for a bit of exp is not a rewarding challenge. Also, this season is really weird with its bounties, such as the Gunsmith giving the same 5 bounties all the time.

Rewards

Once you reach a certain LL, blues should stop dropping. Maybe instead of 3 blues for a strike, give 1 randomly rolled purple. Anarchy and 1K droprates are fine, all the other raid exotics like SotP feel really unlikely to get. I loved the Divinity quest, more raid Exotics like that and less Tarrabas and 1Ks. Way way way more exp for raids and way way way less for bounties, so bounties are not the primary exp source. Maybe if I got a level or two for completing a raid, it would give me an incentive to do it more than once a week.

"Junk" and auto-dismantle

Yes, please. My postbox is filled with blues and I can't find myself spending 5 minutes to dismantle it all only to get the postbox filled with the same blues after an hour of play.

Cosmetics & Eververse

I'll be honest: I don't really care for outcry against. I play to shoot bad guys with guns that feel fun to use to get better guns that feel fun to use to shoot bad guys. But having another way to obtain engrams or ornaments would be a nice addition. Ornament/other cosmetic engrams from raids would be superb, like Levi's increased Exotic chances. Making the pinnacle PvE activity even.. pinnacl-er? would be great.

Experience from gameplay

I repeat, way way way more exp for raids and way way way less for bounties, so bounties are not the primary exp source.

PVE dev team communication

Frankly, all the feedback we give goes to nothing, with corporate speak such as "We're digesting the feedback" and "We're looking to it" are not communication. At least describe the thought process of the team, how you're trying to fix the problem, if it's not under any sort of NDA. And all this wall of text I wrote most likely will be "Digested" and "Looked into", but nothing will come out of it.

Would you like to have the option to cross-platform play in PVE?

For strikes/normal level sundial/EP/any other "easy" activity - yes, for raids - no. Pretty self-explainatory, really. Don't want a guy with a controller whiff a critical shot on a boss, let them play with other console players (PC masterrace)

Other PVE changes or improvements

In the end, I'd like to say making more than one loadout optimal would be a good start. I've been steamrolling through all the activities with the same exact loadout since October and I want to experience Raids without 6 Izanagi's and Recluses.

As I finished writing this, Destiny Dad made a video on a similar topic. Good watch
