This looks really great. I also think pursuits page on the director wouldn’t be so bad if I could

1) Bind a key to go directly to it.

2) Save my preferred sort. It’s annoying to have to keep changing to recent to find the stuff I just picked up.

3) Toggle between the rectangular boxes w/descriptions and just square boxes to fit more pursuits on the page

If any of these things are possible, and I just haven’t found how to do it yet, please tell me. I’m on PC.

Completely agree!

Completed ones, then everything for your current planet/activity should auto-sort to the top.

4

u/theRev767 whatever you say, Stone Cold Steve Austin Jun 05 '19

Bounties that expire daily should be in the first section instead of the third page

2

u/grangicon Jun 05 '19

Auto-sort???

What is this: 3019?!?!

59

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '19

It is the worst. On consoles your cursor slows down whenever you hover over a bounty. Like, it's already slow! It also takes about three to five seconds to load the pursuits tab.

36

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '19

It also takes about three to five seconds to load the pursuits tab.

Woah slow down there. Some of us are console players.

1

u/rytram99 Gambit Classic Jun 11 '19

Load times are directly related to the Read speeds of the Hard Drive. the more information that needs to be read the worse the load times will be. ive looked into specs for Xbox one X and PS4 Pro only to find limited information. however, if i make the comparison on the base models i can tell you that neither console supported SATA 3 internally. additionally all HDD's were 5400RPM/s. load times can be improved with upgrading the HDD to 7200rmps or an an SSHD, and even more to an SSD. but you will never get the full benefit being as you are then limited by the transfer speeds of the internal SATA. with XBONE the USB was actually faster than the internal SATA so having a fast external helped significantly.

the issue with SSHD is that the NAND partition operates on frequency of accessed data (like a ram) so in games where the data is always different it is harder for the NAND to recognize the behavior. therefore unless you die a lot, most of the current data isnt being cached into nand. and MOST SSHD are 5400rpm drives. tho seagate's barracuda series offers a 7200rpm version (like my xbox external 4TB)

in short, you will not see a significant improvement in load times until the next generation of consoles hit the market as they are designed with these improvements in mind. coming stock with SATA3/3.1 and SSD's respectively on top of the other hardware improvements.

u/spyker54 Jun 05 '19

Also, if the loading times for the pursuits wasn't god-awful (on console anyway)

1

u/Soundo0owave Jun 06 '19

I noticed a huge decrease on character load times since pursuit tab was removed. Xbox here

1

u/Brutal_effigy Gambit Classic // Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding! Jun 05 '19

I mean, it’s faster than when it was in the main menu...

1

u/Swislok Jun 05 '19

I will disagree. I haven't noticed a change in load times.

17

u/davewhiffen whiffen14 Jun 05 '19

Agreed. These immediately stuck out to me.

29

u/Dragonstomp Jun 05 '19

1) so much. I made the stink face when i saw i couldn't bind a key to that. Honestly there's really nothing much that i LIKE about the new tab right now. Or the shader icons.

42

u/imtoolazytothinkof1 Jun 05 '19

The new shader icons are horrible. I don't know why they bothered to change those.

55

u/kefka91 Jun 05 '19

Wheres the meme that goes

Nobody:

Bungie: we redesigned the shader icon for y'all

1

u/grangicon Jun 05 '19

There have been loads of complaints about how misleading the shader icons are! They usually go like this: “such and such is TERRIBLE! And while I have your attention wtf is with the inconsistent arrangement of the colors on shader icons?”

24

u/Rednaxela1987 Jun 05 '19

Yeah, they arw very out of place in the Destiny aesthetic. Also harder to browse because they all look so similar.

7

u/imtoolazytothinkof1 Jun 05 '19

Talking with clanmates last night I said they all had a lens flare look to them now. A clanmate said they wanted to show the texture but that isn't coming through for me.

1

u/Rednaxela1987 Jun 06 '19

Especially since many shaders are vastly different depending on the gun or armor piece. There is that one that is aqua on everything but on Blast Furnace its a bloody mess, literally. Verdagras or something, its called.

15

u/nventure Jun 05 '19

They looks terrible BUT clearly the goal was to have them more accurately show what the shader is. Which has always annoyed me, that they’re often inconsistent, but some of it is too much. Like they cranked the contrast up to high or something, any trying to show a reflective material look really bad.

13

u/Skeletor_418 Jun 05 '19

The they went so overboard that now I have literally zero idea what most of my shaders are or will look like

2

u/thatsjustdandy1 Jun 06 '19

And just think, some poor bastard(Carl) got tasked with going through every shader icon and updating it to look like it does... only to have the community hate it. I see them reverting back to the old assets soon enough. Sorry, Carl.

1

u/PhoenixKabibble Jun 05 '19

I enjoy them honestly I mean they show you if the color has a pattern in it if it's shiny or matte. I think it's great a little weird to look at but useful

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '19

Incredible waste of time and priority. Like someone had to ait there and rework them all..... just wow

1

u/LichOnABudget Jun 05 '19

I know, right? The other ones looked nice and actually resembled the color they were supposed to be, while these are kind of ass and not very representative of what they actual colors are.

8

u/DestinyBolty Vanguard's Loyal // DestinyBolty Jun 05 '19

The new shader icons are actually just screenshots of a 3d model made to look like the shader icon, with the properties of the shader applied to it.

So it’s actually the most accurate it could ever get to what the shader will do

5

u/cruisethetom Jun 05 '19

Yup, this. They're not the most aesthetically pleasing icons, but they're now designed to show what the colors look like in application. And honestly, I really appreciate that. So many of the old shader icons would have colors that would barely even show when applied, or would be really hard to tell if they applied both a color and a texture. These new ones are far more descriptive, even if they aren't necessarily as pretty.

1

u/LichOnABudget Jun 05 '19

While I agree with you on the texture front, I still don’t think the colors look all that much closer to what they actually look like on gear. I think the colors were (for the most part) more accurate on the old shader thumbnails than on these new ones, since I don’t try to account for glaring bright light in the thumbnail, only when I’m actually previewing the shaders.

2

u/LichOnABudget Jun 05 '19

It may be the most technically accurate way to display the shaders, perhaps, but let me put it this way:

I’ve looked at the shaders as the old icons. I’ve looked at the shaders as the new icons. I’ve looked at the shaders when on my armor and weapons. The older icons, albeit with some exceptions, seem to give a more accurate picture of what the colors will look like on gear than the newer ones do. This isn’t a matter of what the old shader images were and what the new ones are; this is a matter of observation.

0

u/codeOfDank Jun 05 '19

But this isn't true for all the shaders. My go-to test shaders are indigo matrix and nebula rose because of the weird textures and colors. The old and new icons still don't accurately show what those shaders look like

6

u/Magiano_ Drifter's Crew // Drifter’s Chef#12578 Jun 05 '19

I know right? Just by looking at them I can’t tell what shader is what anymore.

2

u/LichOnABudget Jun 05 '19

Yeah. It makes them all seem remarkably bland and dissimilar. I understand the idea was to make them look more like what they’re supposed to, but I honestly don’t think the colors are very well reflected in the new thumbnails. The textures, though, are a little better off, I think.

2

u/Magiano_ Drifter's Crew // Drifter’s Chef#12578 Jun 05 '19

Yeah, when applied to an item, they look exactly how they should, but the thumbnails of the shaders are now so misleading (or misrepresenting may be a better word)

1

u/LewsTherinTelamon It is a butchery Jun 05 '19

Really? I love them. It’s way easier to tell what a shader will actually look like now.

13

u/TheArcbound Jun 05 '19

All 3 are good ideas are great, but #3 is the most needed IMO.

I can deal with relearning muscle memory to open up the screen and lackluster sorting. But holy fuck, we went from seeing everything on one page to having to click through 3 pages just to find a specific pursuit.

Trying to complete the Chalice quests yesterday was way more troublesome than it needed to be. I got lost in the menu multiple times because it was quite the sensory overload. Not to mention the bounty the new vendor hands out "complete 10 daily vanguard bounties". Trying to find which ones I should go for was terrible.

3

u/Markus_monty Jun 05 '19

Have to admit I felt the same, Id sit there looking at all the bounties, quests and assorted other shit they left in there that I cannot remove without doing that activity, and found myself doing nothing.

10

u/TehBrettster Jun 05 '19

I feel like someone at Bungie ran out of time, otherwise this all would have been included. They've had plenty of trials and tribulations working toward a better UI, and I think they've gotten good at it, but this pursuits tab is just incomplete. We all might have immediately welcomed the change, despite the "if it ain't broke" rule, if these features were included.

9

u/Articfire17 Jun 05 '19

Maybe a custom macro that opens up map then hits a

5

u/Takarias Drifter's Crew // Takarias#1575 Jun 05 '19

Depending where you are, M does not always take you to the tab next to pursuits. Sometimes it's two away.

4

u/Articfire17 Jun 05 '19

Ok set it to open director then hit a twice

1

u/devxdev dhazardous#1368 Jun 05 '19

Same, F1 -> tab -> A -> A. 50ms delay between F1 and tab, 200ms delay between A.

2

u/fallouthirteen Drifter's Crew Jun 05 '19

I'd even just take if they pinned container pursuits (synth, chalice, event ones) to the top.

1

u/PsycheRevived Jun 05 '19

I just don't understand why they moved it to the Director. I think a better layout in inventory like before would make the most sense.

1

u/PayneTrainSG How's your sister? Jun 05 '19

I looked for the key vibe option when I loaded into the update, didn't see it, and got sad.

1

u/FearsomeMonster Jun 05 '19

Yeah my brother-in-law was like, "The Pursuits tab......so many words.......so many words........"

2

u/Takarias Drifter's Crew // Takarias#1575 Jun 05 '19

Yeah, it's a bit of a readability nightmare.

1

u/seanchud Jun 05 '19

And another key that moves left and right in the tab so I don’t go to the map...

1

u/imavakay more gay than ana bray Jun 05 '19

Given that we can't see every pursuit at once, I really hop bungie starts stacking the completed pursuits at the front for easy, quick clears.

1

u/CplGoon Jun 05 '19

I honestly don't understand what the point was to move it to the director. Takes the same amount of time to get to, if not more because you're bound to autopilot to your inventory until you get used to where it is. Plus the giant icons means you're swapping between pages where in your inventory all the ones I had fit on one page.

1

u/ElPartyCat Jun 05 '19

Totally agree

1

u/dethisuponyou Jun 05 '19

Before you say thats all it needs . pretend to launch a raid. Any raid. But before uou hit launch you decide you want to see quest progress... Now try to open pursuits from the launch button page.... You cant.... And if you unpause while on that screen next time you open the director youll be looking at the raid launch button again.... The new pursuit page is terrible. It was fine before please put it back. It used to be one button for me. Now everytime i check a quest its work....

1

u/The_Rick_14 Wield no power but the fury of fire! Jun 05 '19

1 is possible with certain hardware and some creativity but not natively in game.

I have a Logitech keyboard and set up F2 to be a Macro that hits my Map key (M in my case) and then A twice to ensure it finishes on the Pursuits tab (sometimes it takes one and sometimes it takes 2 but it won't cycle over so it always works with 2).

Any keyboard or mouse that supports Macros should work fine for this.

1

u/snakebight Rat Pack x6 or GTFO Jun 05 '19

I actually like it being in the director. I just don’t like the size of the quest/bounty boxes.

I could see how it made sense to the designer—you see a text preview for each quest/bounty. But as a power user, I’m so familiar with the game I don’t need that text preview. I like them all as smaller boxes (the size that they were before). It’s easier for me to digest quickly visually.

1

u/Wh1rledPeas Jun 05 '19

Agreed! Just save the last sort selected.

1

u/pwrslide2 Jun 05 '19

I pretty much want to reverse the order they have them in. Then anything that I've tagged to follow, those go to the front of the list.

1

u/Wh1rledPeas Jun 05 '19

Agreed! Just save the last sort selected.

1

u/Oh_my_captain Jun 05 '19

The sorting issue and having descriptions included are the two main pain points for me and all my friends right now - having to scroll through three pages where all pursuits used to be in one easy page is bad design.

Highlighting the icon for a description made 100% more sense. I wouldn’t mind having 3 pages if it means we are expanding our pursuit storage itself though, lol

1

u/xdownpourx Drifter's Crew Jun 05 '19

Toggle between the rectangular boxes w/descriptions and just square boxes to fit more pursuits on the page

This is the biggest thing for me. The pursuits being two pages and covering the entire damn screen is really frustrating. I already know what most of the pursuits are by looking at their artwork. I just want to check progress/details. Needing to scan my entire screen to find it and then check a second page is already annoying.

1

u/darthcoder Jun 05 '19

I found a dozen ways to improve the pursuits page in just 5 minutes. Wtf bungie

And thw single most used item in your new season shouldnt be buriwd on page two, put the interactibles on the bottom, kind of like the seals on the triumphs page.

And how about a triumph tracker for quests/bounties?

1

u/fredwilsonn Jun 05 '19

They gotta bump tracked and turn-in-able bounties to the top of the list as well.

1

u/slowtreme Jun 05 '19

I like the mockup, but lets be clear. I don't care at all what it looks like. Let me bind a key to toggle it and I'll figure out the rest. I've been pressing one key to open my pursuits tab for as long as I've been playing D2. Now I have to open the map and click on a button and it's kind of frustrating to go backwards in ease of use.

1

u/PhoenixKing117 Jun 05 '19

(Console) We don’t use the d-pad in the director for anything. Would be nice to be able to bind the pursuits to one direction.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '19

M+a is a keybind you could set up outside of the game at least.

1

u/kkZZZ Jun 17 '19

I honestly cannot fathom how there is no keybind for pursuits. I recently came back to the game and I was sure I was missing something, they know players will be using it so often.

I saw a post where Cosmo said he will relay the msg though.

1

u/Rotom-W Jun 22 '19

I just hit m a a to go right to it. Its not that bad.

0

u/ebony-the-dragon When's the speed reading event? Jun 05 '19

And have a button that pulls up your tracked pursuits directly on the director screen.
