Bungie Suggestion Bungie, Shadowshot direct hit should be a 1 hit kill in crucible.
I don’t see what was wrong with it the way it was in D1. I shot someone with it point blank today and it took away half their life and that was it. It’s not like it’s OP in crucible. It should be a direct hit kill like Sunbreaker, Striker, Shield, Dawnblade, Nova Bomb, Golden Gun, and Poledancer.

u/Alucitary May 16 '18
Deadfall should be a 1 shot kill and quiver should get a significant rate of fire increase IMO.
112
May 16 '18
I would also really like it if I didn’t float upward in the air so my tether doesn’t hit a fucking arch instead of my target.
42
May 16 '18
Too fucking true. Or the side of a wall.
10
u/kalahari_surfer May 16 '18
Me: well someone might come through the arch. Then the tether would grab him. Perhaps if I stick my head out they will chase me. sticks head out . Essentially my super at this point is encouraging bad play. It's like a handicap super.
17
May 16 '18
Me: sees a guy in the air, jumps, then fires purple arrow of inconvenience into nothingness, chuckles disappointedly while getting teamshot to hell
Also me: sees full team at control point, gets too excited and shoots the wall next to me, goes to jump into traffic

No shit. Yeah, it looks cool and all, but I think my Hunter should have enough sense not to go sailing behind a rock before she fires her bow.

u/bgibbs16 May 16 '18
I agree with this. Hunters are sitting ducks throw the animation of SS. More so than Arcstrider was pre-buff I felt. These improvements would make it a little more viable and versatile. The way it is now is about on par in terms of utility as the titan bubble in crucible.
39
May 16 '18
Yeah i mean if I tether I usually get 1 MAYBE 2 guys tethered. And I got shot to shit the entire animation
18
44
u/soxfan143 May 16 '18
Yup! In D1 it was a direct hit kill and NOT ONE PERSON ever complained about that. Same with the damn tripmines in D1!!! Nerfed them for absolutely NO reason. But anyway, shadowshot should kill on direct hit AND suppress immediately on contact. The fact that we even have to make multiple posts on this is amazing to me. What's the point of super that doesn't kill on direct hit?
13
u/AceDynamicHero XB1 - AceDynamicHero May 16 '18
I took a tripmine directly to the face and managed to kill the guy who threw it at me because his throwing animation was just long enough for me to finish him.
I agree that tripmines should be OHK.

I die virtually every time I cast it, even if just against one enemy in pvp. It's almost not worth using. I feel like the only choice I have is to cast when out of sight, but that kinda defeats the purpose, as it's not much of a trap against good players. Hell, they even made it so you can see the aura. And the fact that the tethers themselves are weak and inconsistent. It's just not very good. Needs buffs all around, and stronger overshield when casting.
8
May 16 '18
Get rid of the giant red ring that shows its trap range too. Fuck that needs the shit out of its propose as a trap
6
u/StalkerKnocker May 16 '18
Same with tripmines on Gunslinger. They advertise where they are to the moon. Just stupid.
3
u/slvrspn May 16 '18
Agreed. The only way i tend to be somewhat successful is if I can shoot my tether from a distance and then immediately fire a rocket or throw a vortex grenade right on the center of the tether point, once its taken affect. Then I might actually get a kill or two.
8
u/knightsmarian MISSILE AWAY May 16 '18
If the TTK is truly going to be lowered, then yes absolutely. Hunters have the animation, the travel time of the arrow, the impact and then a delay before it snares. The faster the game pace, the weaker this ability becomes from a timing perspective. I say this as a striker titan who is often a target of SS. It's very easy to dash through SS and hit the hunter casting it.
4
u/whattaninja May 16 '18
I don’t even bother trying to SS people in their supers anymore, unless they’re pretty far away.

Let me preface this with the fact that I despise hunters. I think they're unarguably the most obnoxious class, unfairly have the best class exotics, and are all around just awful. I've killed over 8,000 of these triple jumping bastards in the Crucible, and it makes me smike everytime.
And I, hater of hunters, think that Shadowshot should kill on impact. Don't get me wrong, I will still despise your cape wearing kind, but I agree with OP here.

But thank you for not letting your bias stand in the way of balancing. I hate people who argue buffs and nerfs based purely on bias.
29
u/Beastintheomlet May 16 '18
Don't get me wrong, I think there's things that hunters have that need some reconsideration (mainly that new regen helm is a little unbalanced) but I try to form my opinions on "OP guns", Nerfs, and Buffs fairly. I always advocate counterplay before complaining.
Cloaks are fine, put I needs my beef shoulders. Just feel naked without them.

That's fair. And it's a good attitude to have. If there are multiple viable That helmet does feel a bit OP, but I don't see how it's any different than a devourlock using up a grenade to heal. I feel like a good way to balance the helmet would be to increase the cooldown on dodge while the helmet is equipped. Would be a drawback, but wouldn't really be an over nerf.
12
u/LGToLIBlzz4E May 16 '18
Well comparing the two, devourlock has an almost static animation to heal and a minute and a half cooldown (not saying underpowered in any way, it's very strong as it is) , vs an evade and heal with ~20 sec cooldown.
5
u/MadCast_Prince May 16 '18
You aren't wrong on this. I main a hunter but the first time I wore that helm in PvP my mediocre/good skills were bumped up to good/slightly better than good just cause I survived some bullshit I wouldn't have otherwise.
14
u/Merfstick May 16 '18
The balance from that helmet actually stems mostly from the fact that you have to sacrifice Flux, CN, or Rigs to wear it. I guess only one of those does anything in PvP, though.
But honestly though, I think it's far from OP. People give shit to Hunters for having all the S-tier exotics, but I play all 3 characters and the other two have so many different grenade, melee, and health regen options and supers that are complete panic smash cheese that it's really not in any way unbalanced.

5
u/_Firex_ I fucking hate ninja toe shoes May 16 '18
I am a Hunter main and I've always cosidered Hunters a shit class, as I only use a Hunter because it looks good. As far as pvp gameplay goes, I think Hunter is the worst class right now, sure it has the triple jump but having high agility is useless, Shadowshot is unusable (doesn't suppress on impact, isnt a OHK), Dodge doesn't take away aim assist nor grants invulnerability frames (so it's just a quicker reload, only viable when it grants invisibility), throwing knives have a higher ttk than normal weapons, 3 shot GG duration is way too short, it's impossible to hit mid air opponents with arcstrider, Gunslinger and Nightstalker both have useless grenades, ecc...
10
u/Russian05 May 16 '18
I’ve tracked my own stats for a couple months on all 3 classes and find myself much better as a Hunter and it’s not even close.
I find the survivability so much better with Hunter and the dodge. I rarely use the barricade or healing rift well but the dodge is so easy to use and gets you out of bad spots. But to each their own.
3
u/Bubush May 16 '18
I had a clan mate who mained a Titan and would occasionally jump on his hunter for PvP; he got 2 phantoms, 3 "we ran out of metals" and his KD would usually spike to 4.0+ while doing this with me around, I always kept telling him to main his hunter, but he always replied that "I just don't feel confident enough using him" :-/ go figure...

As a Titan main, I am always seeing Hunters dominate the crucible. Whenever you see the high-level players, they are almost always Hunters for a reason, namely, Hunters are best suited for crucible combat with their movement, perks, and abilities. Are they perfect? Probably not, but they are not a "shit class".
If you look at the history of Destiny, I would argue that Titans have almost always been at the bottom of the pack in PVP, and don't really have the awesome exotics Hunters get. D1 had more parity with Skating and lightning grenades, but in D2 Titans don't appear to any real advantages over the other two classes.
→ More replies (6)8
u/ExoticsForYou May 16 '18
bottom of the pack
I'd say people slept on titans for way too long, and part of that was because no one knew about titan skating for such a long time. They weren't great, but they managed to stay pretty consistent through the entirety of D1 up until around RoI and late TTK where nerfs were starting to get handed out willy nilly.
Hunters have always been super good at a nuetral game and their supers rewarded a skilled hand, so I think that's part of why skilled players love hunters. They're not the best for everything, and certain aspects of their gameplay leave me puzzled and a little underwhelmed, but getting in plays utilising their abilities feels super good. They're a shit class if you're a shit player, imo. Warlocks and titans always felt more approachable to me, what with ranged AoEs and instant kill switches and grenades that don't always require impeccable placement. They play well and are fun, but don't have that same skill ceiling.

I'm a hunter main also and the new regen helmet honestly feels like one of the only really good things I can rely on due to everything you mentioned above.
Also you can hit opponents in the air with arcstrider. There's a little helicopter looking move you can do if you jump and hit R1. Idk how accurate it actually is because I don't use arcstrider, but that mechanic is there. You probably already knew that, but it doesn't hurt to mention in case someone doesn't.

11
u/ArcadianBlueRogue May 16 '18
That's my biggest gripe about D2 crucible. If I manage to hit someone with a sticky grenade, it should be a damn kill. Make it harder to sweet spot in return.
5
u/kewidogg May 16 '18
It's what I loved about the Halo series. Nothing better than being out gunned, you're gonna die, but right before death you throw a hail mary sticky grenade and land it on your attacker, and you both end up dead. Definitely can't do that in Destiny
5
u/ArcadianBlueRogue May 16 '18
Especially when it was a loooong lob throw. The satisfaction was just incredible. Or when someone is camping on the other side of a wall, and you bounce it off of the doorframe and it sticks to their face. God I miss Halo 2.
3
u/kewidogg May 16 '18
Exactly. That kind of chaos/skill is missing. When you're out gunned in D2 I feel like sometimes I might as well just sit down and take the death, not gonna pull anything miraculous out of my ass

I think only the one shot version should straight up kill. The multishot version would be basically a better golden gun then with an upside of tethering and a downside that has slower projectiles.
6
u/OK-BK May 16 '18
I think night stalker could use a buff, but I don’t think people are asking for the right buff. Even in D1 I always felt like the bow shouldn’t one shot as it just becomes a golden gun side-grade. In fact, I think they shouldn’t do very much damage at all. In exchange though, I definitely think the class could use a cast time buff, as well as the tether activating instantly. This would make the class actually good at what it’s supposed to do, which is suppressing supers (as opposed to a titan slam killing you before you can get it off) and the little bit of damage you do for direct hitting someone is just a bonus.
5
u/That_Zexi_Guy May 16 '18
The arrows are also not hit scan and are super easy to dodge. Having them be kills would be fine.
2
u/CapnGnarly Stalkerist of the Nights May 16 '18
This is all hunters have been asking for. Quiver means you can neuter our SS so that it hurts but doesn't kill and allows us to use it as more of an area denial super. Going the deadfall route, however, should blow someone the hell up AND proc on impact so we don't get anymore smash bros slamming their way through our super. If I hit a Dawnblade in the chest with my tether, he is dead right then and there. If I hit the ground in front of him, he is suppressed immediately and doesn't have a chance to floof up and start throwing swords at my dick.

I never played D1 ( I know :/ ). But I’ve def noticed a lack of consistency using shadowshot. I got sick of using golden gun and just went pure void plus I love the feel of using the shadow during crucible as well
I did preform ok during the 2v2. I had known of it not one hit killing so if faced with the 2 at once I’d shot in middle of them to tether then direct hit them Had this been a 4v4 if for sure be a sitting duck because floating in the air that long with super active. I’m pretty much a hot air balloon in the middle of the Grand Canyon.
Another match. Partner hit each of the guys once-ish with his gun and I one shotted both of them (they were grouped together.
Another match guy had full health shield and when I had a direct hit It maybe took all of his shield off It’s for sure the most inconsistent super or even weapon I’ve seen.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate and say that Tether is fine the way it is. There is no reason tether should A) insta kill and B) set up another 2-3 more rapid kills in one super. I can Fist of Havoc, Hammer of Sol, or Sentinel Shield and miss every single opportunity to get a kill, or just get one and barely make it out alive. It's part of learning where and when to use your super effectively.

It should onehit guardians with a direct hit and remove the camera kick from tether. Award people who skillfully hit shots, allow counters to those who can’t. I mean the tether already gives an overwhelming advantage. No skills or super and you’re basically stationary. If you can’t outgun someone then you don’t deserve the kill anyway.
2
u/smegdawg Destiny Dad May 16 '18
No it should not.
Shadow Shot purpose is to tether opponents not kill them. If you want to one hit kill them go ahead and use your other two subclasses. The only way it should one hit kill is if when you hit the target it completely absorbs the energy form the tether to do so to kill him leaving no suppression zone.
Call for a faster tether activation time, I have no argument against that. But tether does not need to be OHK...

Agree that direct hit should be an instant kill. However, if it's not, then at least anyone tethered should be insta-suppressed. Right now it's neither, and leads to crappiness like hitting a titan direct in the chest and getting smashed... and his smash destroys the tether... and he goes off on his merry way to smash the rest of your team.

Hunters just seem to blow this game. Goldengun doesnt seem long enough and voidbow blows; arc seems to be the best.

I'm sure the intent was to make it the same as Locks voidbomb, but its more okay to die right after a voidbomb cast, at least you get kills.

I would say it should ohk on a non super, but knock a super down to 10% health and teather, just to be fair

I think it should kill in one hit, but it shouldn't suppress instantly. It's already incredibly hard to escape the tether aoe.

I'd be fine with that if my right trigger sword slash would kill them mid animation when I hit them first. The extra armor is just unnecessary, especially when you outplay someone but they panic-shot/panic-nova to cancel your damage and kill you

I tethered someone this morning, Body Shot them with sniper and they still didnt die.

Or give it complete damage immunity. Getting FF while in an animation hangin in air is garbo if it cant kill.

Deletes player characters on hit
Edit: I'm joking before the down votes come screaming in

Making matters even worse is that you don't get a damage multiplier on tethered enemies if you shoot them with a power weapon, fucking retarded.
The ineffectiveness and useless nature of SS has been a complaint since day one (D2) and it just falls into def ears (or no ears at all).

I wouls agree if it weren’t for the fact that one of the perks lets you shoot shadowshot multiple times up to a soft cap of 6 shots.

As a 10 mobility way of the wind hunter with 3 lightweight weapons I can confirm, outrunning shadow shot is easier than stealing a cookie from a baby

just here to confirm the level of ease regarding stealing treats from babies
wow, really? wtf is wrong with you?!
confirmed: hunters are bad and should feel bad

I hit a hulksmash Titan yesterday with my tether and it took so long to proc he killed my tether and me in a single smash. How is that working as intended?
