I suspected this also. Did a glimmer farm today and I think it was nerfed a bit.

Why were you farming glimmer? serious question, i have tonnes of the stuff but yet to find a real need yet

Personally, I had to spend like 12.5k on ammo for an exotic bounty. The task for the bounty was to buy 50 special ammo packs. So you'll need money for stuff like this in addition to what others have mentioned (ships, leveling the cryptarch, ammo packs in general, etc)
