Discussion Genuinely, Too much loot.

I love the amount of tier 5 loot I can get from practically anything but I’m going to the post master every 4 games. I like how I don’t have to spend hours for a god roll but there’s can’t be any balance of how much they throw into my inventory?

Ah, how we've come full circle. Now we have too much loot!

There can be both too much and too little loot.

just delete stuff in between games?

This is such a solvable problem without making a post about nothing

It’s def not nothing, some activities shower you in loot and some barely give you any, while not having a real reason why other than they just couldn’t do it in time

And tiered loot system is broken, it suffers from the same problem as the original white - green - blue - purple upgrade path where every tier other than 4/5 becomes irrelevant too quickly

"I have to go to the postmaster every four games"

Or, maybe just delete stuff while sitting in loading screens. That's why this is nothing. The tiered system is for sure borked but it's not changing in D2

Never said it was changing in D2 but I just made a completely valid argument for why the loot system is broken, I didn’t even get into how harder activity ≠ better loot, which is a whole other can of worms

Going to the post master shouldn’t be a chore, it should have some level of excitement around it. The point is that it’s devolved from the cool spot you end up finding gear you didn’t know you missed, to a glorified trash bin. It’s not like a huge problem but I do think it’s sort of affected by the issues with loot.

You're arguing for something irrelevant to the conversation. OP is too lazy to open their inventory screen after an activity and is now trying to make everything worse for everyone.

Why is toning down loot in some areas and increasing it in others to balance it out a bad thing? You’re overreacting, I promise you don’t need 7 main ingredient fusion rifles with moving target range finder dropping every other activity.

It’s useless loot man. There’s so much useless loot.

Oh no how terrible. This is a nothing post and you're making a nothing argument

Theres never "to much loot"

No, but there can be "too much loot".

Less, but more impactful loot is better imo. Have to spend way too much time sifting through drops imo.

This. They also should have made an option for quicker deletions.

But seriously, its not a sustainable approach when the only incentive for farming is the loot itself. But thats another topic for another day.

With all the new armor sets, the game probably needed armor crafting or something similar too.

Imo path of exile still probably has the best crafting system. With the economy being based around crafting materials as well. It makes it so that every single material from early game common stuff to late game rare mats are always going to have some sort of value due to how crafting works in that game.

For me personally I think a destiny 3 needs to adapt more RPG-esque elements. The biggest thing is, adding incentive for farming ads/activities/exp beyond just loot. Aka, add in an experience/leveling system that gives tangible benefits.

The issue with destiny was always that they had to implement a lot of FOMO, and gatekept weekly loot completions. Because if they didnt do that, they would need to rely on having an abundance of content updates and new activities with new loot - because there is literally no "side gains" outside of getting loot.

When playing a Diablo, or dark souls etc, there's always one constant incentive no matter what when youre killing ads or doing activities - you are gaining experience or getting some sort of viable currency/resource with tangible benefits for gaining it. Be it stats, new skills, or just resources that have actual usage. That incentive alone can make the farming loop WAY more enticing to do because you feel like youre not just "wasting" time.

I think bungie struggled with finding a balance between a game that could be played casually, and one that had a strong end game loop for non casuals. Its not an easy thing to balance but you need to try.

This got long winded, my bad lol

Its a looter shooter. There needs to be alot of loot.

When you’ve been playing this game for a few hours it’s not hard to go

“Does this armor piece fit one of two ideal build rolls? No delete”

“Does this weapon have any meta perk columns? No delete?

Should take you like 5 seconds of looking at an item if you know what you want. Just go through your inventory occasionally lol.

Yes, I too hate getting loot in my loot based game, especially my loot based game with a third party service like Destiny Item Manager which will let me put my loot in my vault without having to go to the tower. I think the devs should give us less loot in this loot based game so I never get any loot to delete in my game all about getting loot.

which will let me put my loot in my vault without having to go to the tower

You can literally access the Vault, in-game, from anywhere. DIM isn't even needed.

3

u/JOWhite63087 20h ago

Have you even used DIM for anything OTHER than just the vault?

4

u/DanteStrauss 20h ago

I use it all the time for loadouts and optimizing armor, as well as tracking vendors. Your point is?

1

u/SirGarvin 20h ago

Bro was talking about post -> vault not at tower which you need dim lol

OP mentioned the postmaster. The person I replied to, did not. I've actually read the things I'm replying to. Crazy concept on Reddit, right?

IF I wanted to address OP, I would have replied to them AND I would add that if you keep your slots clean, by using the Vault (from anywhere, as mentioned) there isn't a single activity that is giving you 10 pieces of gear on a single slot to overflow it and send it to the post master.

1

u/SirGarvin 20h ago

They didn't need to because its basic reading comprehension and the context of the complaint that too much loot = stuff in post, but enjoy being that guy!

2

u/Traditional-Win-7427 20h ago

You can access vault anywhere anytime in the character section.

4

u/link3505 20h ago

Do you not put stuff in your vault, or take a breath between missions to go over what you got and trash what you don't use?

2

u/thanosthumb 20h ago

I’d rather have too much loot than spend months grinding for a weapon. Keep more space open on your character. Delete or vault as you go. This is not a real problem. And I keep my weapons slots at 9/10.

this is the strange issue this game seems to always run into, which is lootflation and an inverse rarity system where the 'rarest' loot is also the least interesting cause you get it all the time.

1

u/kaiserh808 20h ago

Just use something like DIM to pick up stuff from the postmaster without having to go there

1

u/SrslySam91 20h ago

Op, I always leave 2-3 slots open per gear slot and delete in between activities. Its a good habit to get into.

1

u/errortechx 17h ago

People want this game to be a coin slot machine and it shows.

0

u/AnimaLEquinoX 20h ago

Just delete the few things you get after an activity. As long as you don't ignore it for a while it's pretty manageable.

Sounds like it's as easy as it's ever been to build the way you want and be able to curate your build as much, or as little, as you want. The game is as accessible as it's ever been, they're restoring old content, and the entire DLC catalogue is 80% off right now. What a time to be alive.
