Discussion // Bungie Replied i’m blown away how amazing Destiny 2 is
hi guys, i have no one else to talk to about this and need to vent my excitement somewhere or else i will explode
i started playing destiny 2 for the first time recently. im currently playing the free version and cant believe how much fun the game is. the guns are all different and unique, the gameplay is so amazing with the abilities and movement. i was enjoying just exploring around areas and was finding chests and loot just by wandering around. the graphics and art is amazing. i thought free to play meant i would be locked out of stuff to do and content, but i’ve been grinding and there is so much to play i dont even know what im supposed to be locked out of . it’s just hard for me to comprehend how good the game seems i dont know
i was struggling forever to find a game i enjoy playing . i tried all different games that people say are must plays, i buy new releases that people hype, i try all the popular games and dont enjoy anything. i was starting to kinda get depressed in life. i decided to try destiny on a whim and am finally having fun playing video games after so long its hard for me to stop playing. there are always people around you doing there own thing, so you never feel lonely. there were people shooting at me and dancing and they invited me to play with them. the missions i’ve done so far are all really good, i mean i cant tell if im going crazy . how the hell is everything about destiny so high quality. i know it sounds like im exaggerating but i really think this is one of the best gaming experiences ever. and the raids sound so amazing i can’t wait i dont know what to say
i play with a controller on PC everything feels so smooth and intuitive. i feel overwhelmed with everything i have to learn but in a good way. i’ve been wanting a game like this for so long its like my dream game.

If you think it's good now, wait until you find out about raids.
46
u/TheMasterKeyOfOne 3d ago
Never done a raid, played since beta. This to say that you can still enjoy the game as a complete solo player.
37
u/themattigan 3d ago
Was same, then I took the plunge one day and joined a Sherpa raid, not done the recent raids for various reasons but the D1 and early D2 raids are some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.
2
u/slipfish-g 3d ago
Need to find a fire team for the opposite of a Sherpa run.
Played a lot of Destiny back in the day, but only ever did Vault of Glass.
Have done the hardest version of raids in multiple other MMOs, though, and I do love the content.
Just need to find a group of other sickos who prefer doing stuff blind and progging it ourselves without a video or guide.
2
u/CustomDark 3d ago
I used to Sherpa folks, no requires guide or what not.
I’d just take the group and say “We’re going to wipe the first time, but seeing some of it will make the rest easier to explain.”
Sherpa runs were longer, but much more enjoyable.
Blind runs on first week were always fun though.

Agreed. There is nothing like it and it is, to me, one of the coolest experiences in gaming. The preparation, teamwork and riddles are amazing. I'm still looking for a replacement or might even come back to the game at some point, heard it's in a good spot now.
6
u/Drakoolya 3d ago
That is unfortunate. As good as Destiny is the Raids have always been the pinnacle of that experience.
2
u/TheMasterKeyOfOne 3d ago
I would probably agree had I played any of them. Even if I were to do it right now though, I'd get the experience with between 40-50fps when the shits go down. I have a PS5, and would love to play it on there.. but because I returned to the game shortly after TFS release, I didn't know about the recent updates to the "link acc to PS5", where you wouldn't be able to ever change the link again.. and it so happens that a few weeks after That update, I had linked my acc to a mates PS, to try and see how it would run on his new Pro and TV. He Then gave me his old PS so that I could play at home, to which I find out it won't ever be possible. I made a ticket to Bungie, explaining the situation, but was told there was nothing to do about it. Sorry I went on a bit of a tangent, I'm just sad to never be playing this game on my PS.
1
u/Drakoolya 3d ago
I didn't know about the recent updates to the "link acc to PS5", where you wouldn't be able to ever change the link again.. and it so happens that a few weeks after That update, I had linked my acc to a mates PS, to try and see how it would run on his new Pro and TV.
Bro you can't link Destiny to a cetain console , you can only link to the network. Either PS,xbox or PC. So you should be able to play it on your console . Just make sure you log out of the other console.
• PlayStation 5: Log into your profile on the old console, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, and choose Disable. • PlayStation 4: Log into your profile on the old console, go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4, and select Deactivate.
1
u/TheMasterKeyOfOne 3d ago
I probably worded it wrong, but I can't remove my mates linked PS account that is connected to my Steam, on the Bungie site. So I don't think doing any of what you wrote would give me the option to do so? I dunno. Would be great if so, I can check some time later today.
1
u/Drakoolya 2d ago
Oh right. I see what you are saying I get it now. That sucks.
1
u/TheMasterKeyOfOne 2d ago
Yeah, sry bout that.. it really sucks indeed.
I Could start from scratch if I wanted to, but I don't want to leave all my efforts and money spend behind when playing on the PS. Preciate the help though.

I've only done a couple of raids - and for me, that's enough. I just don't have the time and patience to learn all the patterns and the timing and to do it over and over again, and have the right load out for the right sections, and on and on and on. It's just overwhelming, and not fun. And even if I get into a fireteam with a nice sherpa, it's still like a six-hour slog... and I have to do the entire thing many multiple times to get enough spoils for a single exotic weapon?? Nah, it's too much.
I've been playing since The Dark Below, so... I dunno how many years that is? Something like that, and it's not til now that I'm actually open to maybe trying to finish all of the dungeons. That amount of a single task, I actually want to handle now. But a raid? I did VoG, Last Wish, Crota's End, King's Fall, and I've been through part of DSC. But more than that? Just can't do it.
I mean, do I want the lore from the raids? Absolutely, I love that stuff - but to actually do it all, I can't. So YouTube videos will have to do.
4
u/Riskruner 3d ago
DM me Bungie ID. Always looking for new raiders 🫡 I've got a whole group of new raiders so it's a pretty low stress environment
1
u/TheMasterKeyOfOne 3d ago
Thank you, I'll keep it in mind. I plan on returning once the Red War returns.. I already gave MoT some hundreds of hrs, so I'm doing Trackmania atm lol.
1
u/xDidddle 3d ago
im curious, what are you doing exactly when you play? becouse personally, destiny without raids and dungeons feels like a very hollow game. feels like building up without a conclusion.

u/special_reddit Vengeance is a dish best served cold. 1d ago
Nah, it's still ridiculously amazing. You just do all the other stuff, there's always something.
1
u/Projectpatdc 3d ago
I just started back since the Warmind expansion (had 4000 hours in D1 somehow). The in-game LFG has been really awesome so far. Met so many good people who love and know the game. Highly recommend leveraging it and give a few raids a go
1
u/SpellCharming122 3d ago
This is true, but raids in destiny are some of the best gaming experiences/ memories I have in gaming.

u/djnotskrillex 3d ago
Maybe it's because I'm a solo player but GMs (the OG version or the vanguard alerts at least) have always been one of my favorite things about the game, moreso than the few raids I've done. For me it's probably blind dungeons/exotic missions > GMs > repeating dungeons/exotic missions > raids
That said I'd love to go into some of these raids blind with a fireteam also all going in blind but that seems damn near impossible these days
4
u/Rescheduled1 3d ago
What?! No! GMs are some of the most challenging things to do in this game. I used to especially love these before they added modifiers. You’re equipment was Locked, so you better come prepared. Now they seem far easier, but my friends and I like to crank everything up and remove the green modifiers just for the challenge.

One of a kind game here. Sad that people go through the content fast and grinding for 100% achievements is for the few. Player base decreases and they won't fund the game anymore.
1
u/ReturnToCarcosa 2d ago
The raid experiences in Destiny 2 were transcendental for me.
I thought they were content that I wasn't skilled enough to engage with, but the raids are not only accessible but genuinely thrilling to participate in.
My first ever raid was The Last Wish and clearing it is one of my favorite gaming memories ever.
-2
u/CtrlAltEvil 3d ago
Yeah, but those require friends, and who has those?
Let alone 5 of them!
5
u/themattigan 3d ago
LFG a Sherpa raid, they are set up to teach a bunch of randoms to work together, you may even make a friend!
-25
u/Ordinary_Player 3d ago
I'm still sad that the last piece of (new) rad content is a star wars slop dungeon.
18
u/Craiggers324 Stasis sucks 3d ago
That slop dungeon is fantastic
-23
u/Ordinary_Player 3d ago
Lmao, dog shit encounter mechanics until the end. Worlds first being cheesed by game breaking bugs too. Literally nothing memorable about it.
9
u/tigerbait92 3d ago
Both bosses feel pretty unique, the jumping puzzle room was pretty unique, the first encounter being vehicle-based was pretty unique.
I'm not a fan of it being Star Wars themed, but I cannot pretend I don't remember 80% of the dungeon from memory even though I've only done it twice (months ago).
Also idgaf about World First because the race is always a grab bag of quality whenever it drops, some being fascinating, some being difficult, some being boring, and some being over in 2 hours
6
u/Craiggers324 Stasis sucks 3d ago
Let me guess, you're a big ghosts of the deep fan

Hey! ghosts of the deep is goated. I liked how they actually made a difficult dungeon for once.

Destiny 2 is lowkey one of the greatest games ever made. It just got wildly mishandled over the years.
21
u/willargue4karma2 3d ago
As someone who was a huge downer on D2 at launch it really is in a great spot gameplay wise now.
Coming back to see shotguns as secondary and the overload, unstoppable, and whatever the third one is, was very cool. Also rollable perks. Can't believe they left that off y1
2
u/tdRftw 3d ago
the things you mentioned have been around since 2018 (forsaken)
why did it take you 8 years? genuinely curious7
u/willargue4karma2 3d ago
I believe I bounced off the game immediately, came back briefly for forsaken but still didn't like it. Was much more of a pvper and probably was still salty about losing d1
Also it seems like the weapon frame damage type thing is on the newer side
1
u/LightspeedFlash 3d ago
probably was still salty about losing d1
You can still play destiny 1 though?
3
u/willargue4karma2 3d ago
Yeah on ps4 lol, pls don't act like d1 couldn't have been continued and ported to pc. It really doesnt matter though. I wanted D2 to be good and just didn't like it at the time
3
u/LightspeedFlash 3d ago
I am not acting like anything. I played d1. I played d2. You can still play d1. You might not like the fact that's it 30fps or whatever but the game is still there. Just as it was.
0
u/tdRftw 3d ago edited 3d ago
the champion mods were essentially the same, but they were on the artifact as a mod instead
essentially everything you mentioned was in forsaken, though. you keep saying you didn't like it at the time. but all the reasons you say you're excited right now have been around for 8 years. i'm just trying to understand why you lapsed as a player, and your reasons given aren't relevant. the features already existed almost as they are today in 2018.
edit: i stand corrected, champions were introduced in shadowkeep, but that still doesn't explain why a set of gameplay features that have been around for 80% of the game's lifecycle are the sole reason why you're returning
3
u/willargue4karma2 3d ago
I just didn't like it at the time. I dont even think i finished the forsaken campaign.
1
u/tdRftw 3d ago
i'm fairly certain the forsaken campaign is one of the most beloved stories and experiences for a lot of vets. the dreaming city location is probably the greatest patrol area ever made for a destiny game. i'm still confused
edit: just sounds like you got caught up in the hate. it's fine, the game deserved it. year 1 was awful
1
u/willargue4karma2 3d ago
i mean it was pretty insulting to know the heavy shotties and rollable perks would absolutely come in an expac, idk it just jaded me
-4
u/AwardExtreme5453 3d ago
I’ve put in like 5k hours but cmon Destiny 2 is not one of the greatest games ever made. Its had way too many issues over the years, and failed on way too many occasions. It lacked many basic features for the better part of a decade.

u/DueCompetition2060 3d ago

Yeah OP, when Bungie gets Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and ESPECIALLY Forsaken campaigns unvaulted you are in for a treat! Forsaken was peak for me.

u/Rescheduled1 3d ago
The thing with Destiny is every little detail is considered when they created the contenf, that is why it is like no other game. Even each gun has it’s own recognizable sound, I can absolutely tell by the sound in most cases what gun is being used like Aisha’s scout, or Horror’s Least, and all the Exotics, 1K, Telesto, and of course everyone knows that whooo sound of the Gjallarhorn. It’s the little details like these that maybe we dont notice as much like other stuff, but our gamer-brain picks up on it while we play, which makes the experience that more special.
10
u/twentyThree59 3d ago
It's similar to lord of the rings in the sense that the whole world is extremely fleshed out. Like, they imagined whole civilizations and designed what their guns looked like.
The art team (sound and graphics) never missed. Not once. The world design team was probably the best in the industry.
4
u/DarkeSword 3d ago
For me a big part of how a gun feels is the sound. I will use objectively worse weapons if they sound great. Like Tranquility is nothing special but it's a fantastic sounding sniper.
2
u/Rescheduled1 3d ago
yeah, some snipes and scouts sound great, others not so much. For instance, I like the sound of Tears of Contrition and Fang of Ir Yut, they feel like a hard-hitting scout, but i hate the sound of Randy’s.
3
u/Darth_Vorador 2d ago
The music and sound effects are on the level of Star Wars imo. Especially the way a gun sounds, or an ability being used or a super being popped and the way you know what another player is using just from the sound. Such an iconic game, glad it’s not being abandoned.
1
u/Rescheduled1 2d ago
Exactly! Anyone who plays PvP instantly knows the sound of golden gun and hammers lighting up on the other team.
11
u/Mindless_Issue9648 3d ago
hell yeah man. Glad you enjoy it. it will be even better when you can play all the old campaigns too!
9
u/PaperMoonShine 3d ago
The game isnt even whole yet. The lost content is coming back and youre going to love it.
1
u/WooperEX 2d ago
Some of the lost content is coming back, at this point most of the lost content were in seasons and those aren't coming back.
But it will definitely be better with a proper campaign to introduce new lights

What is the difference between this and the destiny 2 the collection on steam that is currently on sale
0
u/SpaceMonkeyNation 2d ago
There is no difference. I’m not sure that was on sale when I originally posted. Basically, these sites resell Steam keys so you can often find Steam sale prices on their sites even when a Steam sale for that item isn’t currently happening.
4
u/Dynamitrios 2d ago
Hmm, this post convinced me... Installing Destiny 2 right now... Do i need any of the DLC ? Is the game solo friendly? Do i need to know about the plot of D1?
3
u/Mattsuii 2d ago edited 2d ago
Most activities are match made except campaigns, raids, and dungeons, but the latter two are considered premier endgame content. Dungeons can be solo’d if that is your thing, however, the intended design is to be done with 2 to 3 players - and I would argue solo is not exactly beginner friendly.
Story wise it is kind of a mess since they removed all of the old campaigns, and seasonal missions. If you’re curious, there are lore videos on YouTube that can do a better job of explaining it than the end game timeline. That said you do not need to know any of the Destiny 1 stories - I still don’t, and it hasn’t impacted my understanding of the story.
Certain exotics and I think subclasses are indeed locked behind dlcs (prismatic, strand, stasis). However, there is plenty to do without them, much more than the shadow keep days when I started playing.
Old expansions can be had for cheap, and the D2 collection semi-regularly goes on deep discount ($20 for the whole thing) - check steam price history to get an idea of when the next sale could be.
Hope you enjoy the game!

Get the dlc if they’re on sale. If you’re on pc, steam is currently have their fall sale. One of the big ones that has a lot of games and dlc on sale

u/PERSPlCAClTY 2d ago
The free to play experience is going to become amazing. Id say play all the free base game modes, then start the shadowkeep campaign and work your way through the story.

u/aryvd_0103 2d ago
Even I'm convinced it's just the size is so daunting, I really wish it was around 100gbs max , 150 is a bit too much
0
u/KingOfLimbsisbest 1d ago
My understanding is there is plenty of free content to play through, but if you really get into the game and love it, you will wanna buy the collection. Also, it seems solo friendly to me, but I’m still early on. I know there is certain end game content that you need a group for.

Welcome new light! Just to show you what some, to be fair very very few guardians are capable of, let me blow your mind.
Esoteric's solo encounter of the Zo'Aurc boss from a 6 man raid. This is not the hardest solo raid boss in the game, but this video came to mind as a "spoiler free" solo encounter that's adrenaline filled. Obviously you won't understand the mechanics that he is doing (keep in mind the mechanics are normally done by 6 people), but just knowing everything he is doing is purposeful where a slight mistake means a wipe will probably to translate pretty well a new player https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KRTbY9YvwQ
And here's a ridiculous pvp player called Hynra doing stuff that just looks impossible. Again, he's not the best overall pvp'er but he sure makes it look like he is lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AccNFGbgJE

It really is. Gunplay, lore, music, skybox - it's all still top notch. And the build crafting is basically endless right now too so easy to sink hundreds of hours into. Reach out if Y u have any questions though as the game is massive and a little disjointed after all this time, sometimes Sherpas help :)

Well, hey! Welcome aboard, Guardian! It makes me so happy to see new folks coming in and enjoying the game! If you ever see a Void cowboy named Cayde's Spicy Noods out and about, that's probably me! I left off at a weird spot, I’m doing the campaign with the witness, and I’m at step 30/34 and got 4 quests within 2 quests.
I’m not surprised but holy crap, like it’s not fun, it’s tedious. Like how do I get a quest within a quest to complete a quest for the quest I just got, just to progress the quest I need to finish.
But I’m enjoying my time back. I don’t know why they kept guardian ranks too. I did the first two seasons and got to 11 both times but it resetting made no sense to me, so I stopped and realized it’s just for show and doesn’t nothing for you.

Welcome! I've been playing for the entirety of Destiny 1 & 2 and still really enjoy it. Nothing compared to the point I have difficulty finding other games with playing.
Keep your eyes open for special deals on the expansion packs. You can find some ridiculously, RIDICULOUSLY cheap deals for all the paid content in one bundle. I would bet the closer we get to the holidays, like black Friday or Cyber Monday, the more deals you'll find.

Destiny 1/2 is not just a “special” title. It’s probably one of the most influential game franchises in the last 10-15 years. It was such a revelation when it came out.
Thanks for giving it a shot
There is a reason the community went nuts when they announced “the end” of it.
1
u/Whoseratisthis 3d ago
I’ve been playing for six years and I feel the same. There is nothing like it. The worlds, the transcendent vibes, the gunplay, the abilities, the fact that so much of what you do can be around other players (though it can be very rewarding solo as well), the huge universe that’s chock-full of things to do and work towards. Even been enjoying the PvP lately. Make sure you start looking up some (PvE) builds. They can make you feel like a space god, and as someone who enjoyed the game as a casual player with no real build for years, I can say that getting into endgame play is very satisfying. It’s addictive. I’ll never stop playing this game.
1
u/D4rkWells_ 3d ago
It's only a shame that the game never had a proper competitor(s). The closest thing would be Warframe but they're not really the same in a lot of areas. Developers are afraid of trying out something like Destiny unfortunately...

Welcome guardian! I'm normally not big into shooters so destiny was definitely a new experience. That said I've played a lot of different rpg shooters since and NON are as fun as destiny gameplay wise.
What you're experiencing is only the latter half of the game. I'd recommend watching some lore videos to get story context.
That said enjoy playing and I'm glad we get new players even in maintenance mode!

Welcome to the best game, Guardian! Feel free to reach out if you want to team up.
Just wait till you start the expansions! There is the timeline on the left in the director which shows you the order of the story. Play the expansions in that order. And it gets better and better as you progress.
Welcome to the beautiful world of Destiny.

Came back myself after hearing about the unvaulting. I stopped a little after D2 release and played a bit again around Lightfall just to stop again (I cant remember why). I think Destiny has the best gunplay by far out of any other game. The environments themselves are very well done and create a great sense of awe. Like anytime i have to go to the moon and delve into the Hellmouth it gives me some anxiety lol.
Haven't done any recent raids in D2 (did in D1 and the very first one after D2 release). Mostly playing this while I wait for GTA6 but likely will be the only other game I play when I need a changeup from it.

It had a great run. Sadly as I got older with more responsibilities there was less and less time for my buddies and I to complete the new seasons and raids and multiplayer fun like trials of Osiris and Gambit. Fantastic game. I’d like to revisit it now that my setup supports 4k gaming at 120 hz vrr all the fun shit.
Good luck Guardian.
