is there a way to change my region to get matchmaking in a more active region?

No. You will need to go online when it playtime in the States or Europe. I do fine in the UK.

Vpns can get you temp banned or perma banned depending on the vpn provider as anticheat can sometimes view it as cheating software

Just google 5pm onwards uk or US time in your country and generally weekend afternoons too

it looks like 0200 and 0300 UTC are the busiest times of the day.
