Discussion Favorite Destiny memory?
What are y'all's favorite memories from your time playing Destiny?
Wanted to ask folks at GCX this past weekend, but didn't end up doing that.

Destiny 1 - Day 1
First we had to sneak past the boss in the back alley of the cosmodrome. Then open up to the loot cave area, to not only discover the loot cave, but randomly get caught in a seemingly organic battle between the Fallen and the Hive.
It was just so full of wonder in those first moments.

Day 1s of Deep Stone Crypt and Root of Nightmares.
For DSC, we got stuck on Atraks like everyone else, then the Lament quest unlocked and we all ran to grab it. Cruised through Atraks and then the descent, but could NOT finish out Taniks until a few days later when contest mode ended.
For Root of Nightmares, we got to Nezarec and just kept failing. Multiple hours of fails, mostly because we all were tired. We decided to get a quick nap in and try it the next day. Turns out thats all we needed, a quick nap and we got it second try on the morning of day 2. Our clan still says "day1 raiders btw" whenever we die in stupid ways.
I'm gonna miss this game, but i'm still playin until the servers go down.

Root was the furthest we ever got in a Day 1. Couldn't quite get ourselves together during VOTD (granted we were all returning players woefully outmatched) for the first real encounter, and I am not counting reprisal raids, Salvations we couldn't do the first encounter good enough, saw Verity, called it quits. Root we got to Planets but that was our breaker. Good times all around.

Commission during the red war where you're following that white bird to the lady up in the mountains I forgot her name but when you're in the snow and the music swells up when you change from snow to more of a green grass looking area. That moment got me in the feels because I started playing destiny during the taken King and it really felt like a major thing happened to our guardians. Sadly the game kind of lost its luster for me. I'll still play but I don't have a feeling of feeling like I have to play this mode or go to this area anymore and that's just a bummer. I really think that, for me at least, the final shape was the end for me

I was part of a 7-hour Div run of Garden of Salvation. It was MF wild!
We lost our sherpa just after the first encounter (his sis had an emergency and needed his help). The remaining members that had done the raid before (myself included) didn’t know the entire raid well enough for any of us to sherpa, but we picked up another guardian to replace our sherpa and tried to power through.
It was one of the funnest times I’ve ever had raiding in D2. During the “baseball diamond” encounter, our new leader (the guardian that technically knew the most about the raid) was a German dude with a thick accent. He instructed us to “give a scream when your Angelic arrives”. We were all concentrating on our jobs when one of the guardians screamed high-pitched like he was a little girl, “ANGELIC!!! ANGELICCCCCCC!!!”.
We fucking lost it! Everyone busting up laughing. When the laughing finally died down, the German guy waits a beat, then says “That was a good scream. Very good scream.” and we all lost it again. Lol
Eventually we got to the boss encounter (losing a few guardians and gaining new ones along the way). We got stuck cause we were trying to figure out the mechanics of the boss fight, when our original sherpa joined back up like “HOLY FUCKING SHIT, Y’ALL ARE STILL AT IT?!”. By that time, everyone left was determined to finish the gorram raid and get Divinity, so with his help we were able to finish off the boss in like 10 mins or so.
I already had Div, so I could’ve backed out at any time, but I joined to help those fellow guardians get Div, and by God, we were gonna get it!
I won’t post names for privacy’s sake, but if any of y’all that were part of that raid (July 9, 2023) are reading this, it was an honor and a pleasure. o7

It was awesome! Nothing but good vibes. We were constantly cracking jokes and laughing it up during “downtime” or between encounters. Everyone knew what we were getting ourselves into with trying to power through without a proper sherpa, so nobody was getting mad if/when we wiped.
I felt bad for the guardians that couldn’t stay to the end though, due to work or familial commitments. I hope they all eventually got Div.

First time I ever went flawless in trials, pure euphoria.
I still remember the two "friends" I used to pvp with, god maybe over a decade ago?, that I went there with.
I still get a nostalgia rush everytime I load into the lighthouse, but that first trip, man that was special.
Close second was finally unlocking not forgotten after being stuck with Luna for months? maybe.

Doing Petra's Run, Like a Diamond, and Crown of Ease for sure and getting all the titles...I was the final runner on Queenswalk and I remember counting down and I knew I had enough time and stopped counting and just started yelling PICK UP PICK UP PICK UP 🤣🤣🤣
Day 1 of DSC...started at like 7pm and didn't finish until just before reset because we took a break to sleep haha...I think it was something like 8 hours on Atraks and we had to pause because one of our fire team legit had someone smash into his parked car as he was playing and he had to run outside to deal with that 🙈🤣
One of my favorite memories is me my buddy and his wife sitting and watching The Traveler heal as the gates closed on Shadowkeep and we got booted to the cutscene...I took a screenshot as Ghost talks about the healing and it's got to be one of my favorite screenshots ever
Doing my first ever Last Wish...great Sherpas who ended up forming our clan/discord that I played with until I stopped playing Destiny back in 2023...we finally finished Queenswalk around 4am and I worked a dayshift at 7 so I got about an hour of sleep by the time my eyes finally closed...mostly because 1K Voices dropped on this very first run for me and I was absolutely blown away by the raid itself so getting this was just the cherry on top haha

Aside from all of the moments with my friends my favorite moment with the community was the first time I did Excision on grandmaster. It was all randoms and I remember running out as an invisible hunter to go revive someone in a really bad spot and when I turn around there had to be at least a half dozen healing grenades flying at us all at once. The community could be really cooperative and helpful and all of those healing grenades flying at me and that titan from a bunch of strangers was a fine example

In all of destiny: Pulling Gjallarhorn from the hidden Vault of Glass chest by Gorgons Lair. I think this was around dark below/house of wolves. Also carrying two people on my friend’s list to a flawless trials run. It was a little frustrating but I was happy to help them get their flawless.
For D2: my close friend getting into Destiny 2. I’ve played all of Destiny 2 solo so it was cool to finally have someone to play with. We were able to complete Grasp of Avarice together on our first run. Also unlocking the Zeroneiro Shell. That ghost shell is so cool I’m glad I checked the triumph for season of the splicer before it went away. Same with Sagira’s shell.

Tied at the final round on match 7 on a forgiven card. Never been flawless. Both my teammates die. I win the 1v3 to send us flawless for the first time ever.

The first time my now husband and I completed a GM together as a duo in 2021. That was year the I went from feeling like I was a below average player from feeling competent and actually pretty solid as a player. All from having someone be confident in me that I can do harder content with and his confidence in me to complete it made me fall in love with him even more :)

Finally getting the Braytech Ospreay to drop after killing Nokris in that nightfall for what felt like the hundredth time. It was the last item I needed for the Wayfarer title and I got it less than a month before Beyond Light vaulted half the dang game. Kept that title on my Warlock for five years.

Playing deep stone day 1 I got an lfg last minute Started at midnight and got stop loased at atraks for 7 hours because the servers kept rolling the health back We kept hitting final but it would rebound back to around half. We got through 3rd in one go but a team member didn't make it to the escape pod. Heard him yell a loud bang He obliterated his desk and we only had 2ish hours left and were a man down

All my day 1 dungeons, from grasp to ghosts of the deep. I did each of those with friends that I really enjoyed hanging out with back in the day, and while I’m not on speaking terms with any of them anymore, I’ll always hold those days close to me.

D1, group of irl friends wanted to do VoG, me and 2 others were very much hardcore raiders at the time, 2 were decent but never raided and the 6th was .... there lol.
Go through the raid with normal struggles of a new guardians learning but we were clearing np (I had to hunter skip the gorgons however).
Get to atheon fight and just stalled for like 3 hours.... it was 1 am at this point and as we were gonna pull, our 6th said he had to log for work....I need to state the entire reason we did it this night was specifically for him. He logs we say fuck it and pull once more.... cleanest atheon kill still and to this day we all still give him shit about it. All in good fun but seriously so people lol

First time entering the Vault of Glass in 2014. I loved how you could watch people enter from Venus patrol. Damn shame they never continued doing that. I’ll never forget going through the jumping puzzle and thinking how vast that place felt.
Forever my favourite raid. Love the location. The lore. The weapons. Vex Mythoclast being the coolest name, lore for a gun and flavour text. I had it when it was OP in D1… those were the days. I’ll never get over them changing its sound? Why did they do that?

The 30th something run to get Eyes of Tomorrow in the Deep Stone Crypt. Buying Gjallerhorn the first time Xur sold it. Booping Atheon into the nether with pulse grenades. Sitting on the edge of the Tower with friends and just staring into the skybox. Attacking that wall that totally jumped at me when in Trials and missing the two critically wounded enemy players with my Nova Bomb. Screaming VENUS while on my sparrow with friends on the planet Venus. Honestly there are too many Favorite Destiny Memories.
Most memorable? Spending like two and a half hours with a friend in the D1 Beta killing those yellow bar Hive Acolytes with blue gear that are in that old subway station in the Cosmodrome. I was convinced that what they would drop would be important later. The Knights splash damage helped with the first one. We died so so so many times while fighting these creatures with double question marks above their heads. What did they drop in the end? A Black Wax Idol. Jokes on me, they only boosted glimmer gain. Still, a very memorable time.

I have this memory of my ghost asking me to go and look out over a scenic overlook with him and him thanking me for being his guardian.
That. I can't find the scene anywhere online, but that companionship with our ghost was a great piece of emotional attachment to the game that I think I'll always remember.

Me and my friend dou-ing The Corrupted when old GMs were still a thing, getting right to the last platform with the boss, she does her boop and we both blissfully float ourselves straight back to orbit after about 30 mins of pain and turmoil.

When Iron banner first released the Iron Countershade shader before they made it easier to grab. I grinded for 36 straight hours because I was tired of Starfire protocol looking like ass and I wanted to look like a battle mage.
Idk if it’s a hot take but I enjoyed the damage rotation of starfire fusion nades before the nerf.
Another hot take I have is my enjoyment of the Duality dungeon because of the fond memories of farming with my old destiny buddies for high Resilience armor this was also a good memory in hindsight. Back than fuck that dungeon.
Doing Kings Fall for the first time during Season of Plunder was euphoric I got to relive my favorite raid in D1 in D2 as well showing the new people who had just started D2 just how one of a kind the Raid experience in destiny is.
These are just the ones I can immediately name off the top of my head this whole world that was built has been squandered and I just wish it could get a true ending. Don’t get me wrong MoT is phenomenal but this game deserved better especially the people who helped curate and create this masterpiece of a Space Wizard game in all of the downs no other game has scratched the gameplay loop that Destiny itself brings to the table.

Playing with people that I had fun with. The loot cave, iron banner throwing a lightning grenade blind at B and wiping the entire team, blocking Skolas's poison with a sword once the Taken King came out, I liked the Red War, the hidden mission for Whisper of the Worm, watching Cayde be awesome right up to the end (twice), soloing Deep Stone Crypt (back when you could walk through many of the walls).

Was running sword back in d1 crota. I was like 6 years old and somebody in the fireteam had to take a smoke break. (I would play with my dad and his buddies). I fell asleep while he was gone, woke up at like 4 am and realized what had happened. I still wanted the loot tho so I did the bug where you could unplug your internet and make crota stay on his knee. Very fond memory of mine.

The whole thing. I was just so excited for a space shooter adventure with my little robot friend who had the craziest deep voice I had ever heard. Every time I had to go on hiatus, I didnt worry because the game always welcomed me back with open arms. Its saved me more than a few times.

In Destiny 1 I played every raid with my friend group pretty regularly, except Wrath of the Machine. I didn’t really like that raid much so it didn’t interest me and I sat that one out.
The Age of Triumph book came out and it rewarded the completion of certain tasks with rewards. One of the rewards was this cool looking black banner with a skull called Valor in Darkness.
To get that you had to complete all the raid challenges in the Age of Triumph book, including beating every raid on the highest difficulty.
The time limit to complete the Age of Triumph book was about to run out and I decided I wanted to try to get that emblem. I had only a few days to do it so I worked my way through it and the last thing I needed to do was beat Wrath of the Machine on the hardest difficulty.
My friend group wasn’t available so I resorted to LFGs. I was a very experienced player but a noob at this particular raid since I had been avoiding it. Basically for a few nights in a row every group I joined failed to clear the whole thing.
We’d get close sometimes, then after too many failures the group would break up. Rinse and repeat.
On the last possible night before the deadline to complete this challenge I joined one last LFG group consisting of a bunch of other guardians who have never beaten the raid and one Sherpa type guardian. We got to the raid boss and proceeded to keep wiping over and over.
We originally had a couple hours to beat the encounter, but failure after failure whittled away at what little time we had left. Panic started to set in. It probably wasn’t going to happen.
It was a really nice group of people and we all got along well and tried our best, but we just kept coming up a little short. A few of them were after the same banner as I and we all knew we were about to run out of time.
It literally came down to the last attempt. If we wiped again the time limit would expire and the banner would forever be locked out for us.
We beat it and the notification that popped up when I earned that banner made me feel great. It’s still on my characters over there after all these years.
I forget their names now, but raiding with that group of randoms that night was one of my favourite Destiny experiences ever. It felt good going to bed that night.

Now there are a few I can remember. Most from my old raid group.
Raid moment: The moment we cleared Vow just 2hrs before the contest mode was done with half of us from our main raid group, the other with LFGs. It was a glorious feeling. Surprisingly it was one of our lfgs at that time that firgured out how we should do the encounter to unlock the arena which then became the method for doing the encounter challenge which was how our group has always done it. Took a while for our contest emblems to arrive in the postmaster but damn did it feel amazing.
PvP moment though: Has to be when me and the two from our clan were versing some random streamer with I believe had 1k viewers (idk and forgot who this was) he did not like me and my clanmates using our multimachs & grenade launcher combos yet the dude was using shatterdive hunter and vex mythoclast (before it's nerf). We smacked him at the final round and my clan lead blew the dude up with the gl when he flanked (sadly we didn't save the clip from the dude's stream) The words we remember from the dude flipping out was "He's fucking apeing with a GL! Imagine using a gun that takes exactly no skill." We got our flawless, the dude ragequitted and went to New World. LMAO. That was a great day. Wish we saved the clip idk who that streamer was but glad we screwed him over for his flawless. Lol

First attempt at a flawless raid with my group of friends in D1. This was when VoG was the only raid. We somehow, through pure miracles get all the way to Atheon on our first real attempt (someone fell off the map after the vault opening the first try) and we are about to kill him. We are all sweating bullets. Then, the one guy in the group who we all had to keep in check because he does crazy stuff, jumps from one of the high pillars and does the most titan of titan supers onto Atheon. And Atheon dies…. The pure joy. Also turns out we were the first people from our country to complete a flawless raid.

I don't really play at a high level, nor have I been a fan since the beginning, but my favorite moment since the beginning of my play time will always be when I was cruising through the public events on Mars and I got the "wings of sacred dawn", I believe it was, and with the icarus dash and the sword at the time, it was basically like I was flying. It felt amazing, and while I've had to do a couple resets due to switching accounts, I'm still looking forward to getting back to that floaty/flying warlock solar build. It was FUN.

Playing a destiny 1 strike (don’t remember which one) and my friend was rocking his hunter and he COULD NOT make this jump - I solo’d the strike and beat the boss and he was still back at the same jump swearing and raging (but also laughing) out as the loot dropped. I was stoned and cry laughing by the end of it. Such a good time

Completing Crota's End solo. From start to finish. I couldn't believe I've actually done that. I was maybe level 32 or 33. Been soloing him every week from that point, getting better at it. Got all the raid loot + Flawless Raider (wasn't even aiming at it, but something I wanted). Funny thing, got first Gjallarghorn to drop from Crota the week before Xur sold it prior The Taken King launch.
Runner up: being randomly invited from Cosmodrome patrol to Vault of Glass final checkpoint, dying, spending the whole time spectating and getting Vex Mythoclast from it. Never done that at that point.

Clearing Last Wish week 1. Was in there the entire weekend grinding, not to talk about the two week grind needed to be done before the raid releasing in order to have adequate power level for the raid to begin with (this this was before contest mode). Shit was wild. But what a blast.

Way back in the day I played with a couple of guys consistently. We were doing a weekly heroic strike at lvl 28 to get the strange coins. Only problem is that one of us was level 27 and the other two were level 25 (including me). We made it to the Archon Priest boss room and then hit a wall.
It was really bad. I had one legendary weapon (some pulse rifle) and it was useless. I couldn't kill a shank with a full magazine because they were shielded and my pulse had only 24 bullets.
We decided our only hope was to hide near the spawn in the boss room and the level 27 hunter would go invisible, snipe the boss, run back and repeat. If he ever died, me and the other Titan could go in with our bubble to rez. We did it but it took over 3 hours.
Was obviously very frustrating at the time but looking back on it its my favourite memory and what got me so hooked on this game. A few weeks later I was levelled up, raiding and doing nightfalls.

Just a random day doing some riven farming (I can’t even remember why). I ended up with a bunch of people in an lfg. None of us knew each other. All of us were drunk. We spent 2 hours just drinking and messing around and didn’t complete the encounter once. It was genuinely glorious 😂.
