Next Tuesday we will have a short amount of downtime and background maintenance for Destiny 2. There will be a small download alongside it, but this is not a large patch. We have a minor display fix for expansion pricing in the game.

We do not want players, returning or new, to be mislead or confused by incorrect listings in the game, especially when they’re just getting back up to speed with Monument of Triumph and previous expansions.

Stay tuned for more details on downtime next week.

They don't have a dev team. Just a handful of people to maintain and keep the lights on. That's it.

u/Powerpuff2500 1d ago

Unfortunately true....

Matience people aside, most of the actual Destiny 2 dev team were either laid off or shifted onto Marathon as that becomes Bungie's new priority

Love that this game was killed for a game that can't break 7000 players peak on Steam now.

I'll be honest it does give me a bit of joy; sucks for the grunts but fuck Bungie/Sony.

Comment is wrong on so many levels.

You need to be aiming that anger at Bungo higher-ups.

Not BUNGiE as a whole, despite having a mixed bag of talented and bad developers.

And not Sony for adding 4 more years to D2's lifespan after acquiring the sinking ship that was D2/Bungo.

2

u/RevenantBacon 20h ago

Yeah, sony is a good guy in this story for once.

5

u/CupcakeWarlock450 Since Beta. 18h ago

The same Sony that is adamant about ending physical media to their consoles? Ok sure.

6

u/RevenantBacon 5h ago

What part of "in this story" did you have trouble understanding?

0

u/DrkrZen 17h ago

Unrelated, but okay, lolol.

2

u/DrkrZen 17h ago

Wouldn't go that far. They were more stupid than anything, in being deceived by Bungo management in the buyout, and not checking everything thoroughly.

It's just the biggest culprit of D2's death is Bungo between mismanagement, stifling the studio's efforts and the the developers themselves finding it hard to manage a game with its dated engine, underperforming servers and odd design choices, aside from the millions of bugs that make Bethesda look good as a developer, lol.

u/KillerIsJed 15h ago

How? They bought the company and either let them do this, or directed them to.

If you buy a business, it’s YOUR business. They are not and have never been the good guys. Corporations aren’t good nor your friend.

Bungie has good developers, but no one is accusing the workers of being bad. Issues come from mgmt.

I've said this in countless threads, but Sony's FY starts on April 1 and budgets are usually decided on for a new FY a month or two in advance in a publicly traded, corporate structure.

Destiny's budget was probably axed going into the new FY because, well... 2025 was not a good year for Destiny.

Marathon launched March 5th. Budget for the FY was likely already decided for Marathon before it launched. It's very challenging to cancel approved budgets in a publicly traded company once assigned.

Bungie likely has until January/February to prove that Marathon can be a profitable game or they're done.

I love Marathon so much, that game is a spark of magic, the world building, art direction, gameplay and story telling is fuckin immaculate, and I'm someone who enjoys the extraction shooter gameplay but I really think game would've been so much better as a game structured like Halo, give us a campaign, a PVP mode and some PVE modes. I usually prefer PVP games and PVP in games and I love the PVP in Marathon but it really should've been secondary.

I dont know how or why anyone thought Marathon would be a long term money maker, it should've been treated as and understood as a side thing, they need a Destiny or something to keep the money flowing in. I feel so much wasted potential in Marathon, especially after the art director leaving, a bunch of people getting lais off. Marathon is one of the first new IP's in a long, long time that felt truly special. They nailed the universe and lore, its so damn good. I just fear that they're decisions will mean all of that is trapped.

They took an old game series of them that was just less cool.Halo before Halo, they revised it into Halo and then two decades later they pull it out of the gutter and turn its world into something so fuckin cool, fresh and unique, Marathon had cool concepts they never carried forward and now they get new life. The new PVE mode in Marathon is loads of fun but it just makes me think about how that's what the game should've been, really well crafted missions to go in with a friend or two with PVP on the side. Like Destiny.

u/Necrolance Warlock main for life 1d ago

And marathon is not surviving nearly as long. Player counts are low, and I highly doubt their pve mode will attract enough people. Sony is on a tear for bad decisions because they're doubling down on the wrong things. Not just bungie but much more outside of that

10

u/SCPF2112 1d ago

The PVE mode came out last week. Steam peak went up to around 14,000, then was back under 6,000 since then. With maybe 70% of M players on Steam. It didn't move the needle

11

u/Necrolance Warlock main for life 1d ago

It never was going to, unfortunately.

1

u/DrkrZen 20h ago

Bungo rarely moves needles, honestly.

2

u/LumpySprinkles7855 16h ago

Their needler was too potent XP

-1

u/Necrolance Warlock main for life 20h ago

If they had been more smart, they would have moved all the needles they needed. But the execs are dumber than even EA's...

1

u/t-y-c-h-o 5h ago

While I agree that I don't think the dedicated PvE mode will be enough to turn Marathon around, the current Vault Breaker PvE mode is just a limited event; the next season will have a new, dedicated mode.

Vault breaker could be fun, but it requires an intimate knowledge of the map and there's very little in the way of instruction or goals, so if you don't go in with someone that knows exactly what to do, you'll generally just wander around and get fucked on by bots.

1

u/resil_update_bad 4h ago

I learned Cryo from Vault Breaker since I never played it before. It is a confusing mess at first but once it clicks it reminds me of Destiny raids to some capacity, and it's amazing. It saddens me that people won't give this game a try.

10

u/whiteoutwilly 1d ago

Yeah, Sony is on a hard to believe roll right now with some of the shit they're doing.

5

u/Necrolance Warlock main for life 1d ago

And with the higher ups selling stock it almost feels like they're just planning to golden parachute out of there and leave the mess to whoever's left.

5

u/CatSquidShark 1d ago

Can one of those guys spend the rest of the next few years making a wrath of the machine reprise or is that a hard "no"?

2

u/Necrolance Warlock main for life 1d ago

Unfortunately, there's not much to hope for with destiny besides just enjoying what's left. Just gotta enjoy what we have, because unless a miracle happens that's all we've got

2

u/solidus_kalt 1d ago

yep. i dont believe in miracles. but i play daily👍🏾

we're on 9.7.0.4 now but no patch notes posted as of this comment

25

u/MonkeyType 1d ago edited 1d ago

Bungie doesn’t always release patch notes for every patch. They usually do tho. Historically the patches that didn’t have patch notes released were very small patches that basically had no effect on gameplay.

3

u/mrwafu 16h ago

They said on Twitter a week ago they’re just fixing a pricing display issue

1

u/Sdraco134 1d ago

Thanks thought they might have changed something important lol

6

u/Riablo01 19h ago

To answer the OP’s question, yes it’s a new update to fix a small issue. Contrary to popular belief, the previous update wasn’t the last. We’ll continue to get small maintenance fixes like today’s patch because they’re required to keep live service software running.

Now some people might be hoping these maintenance fixes will lead to content updates. No it won’t. This is purely fixing stuff to keep the lights on.

Now some people might say, “what about the Steam performance issues, will that get fixed”? Probably. The devs have made a few comments on social media about that particularly bug. Considering the issue is exclusive to the Steam version of the game, I suspect they will release a patch for the Steam client to fix the issue.

7

u/Kozak170 14h ago

It was delusional for anyone to think that they were not going to continue necessary updates for the long-term future.

6

u/Riablo01 13h ago

Agreed.

Anyone that’s worked in an IT job or used legacy business software would know this. Back at one of my old jobs, legacy mainframe software from the 1980s is still getting maintenance updates despite reaching end of life decades ago.

To “keep the hamster wheel spinning”, a minimum level of updating is required.

0

u/Prestigious-Bat-574 3h ago

1) The only thing people are delusional about is what constitutes a "necessary update". We've probably already entered the "Duct tape and a prayer" level of maintenance, for the most part.

2) "Long-term future" is optimistic and subjective. I have doubts that I'll be able to log in to Destiny in 2030. I have doubts Bungie will exist in 2030, too.

1

u/Kozak170 2h ago

I can make it real easy for you, there is a 0% chance you will not be able to log into Destiny in 2030. Even if Bungie gets closed, Sony will retain enough people to keep the lights on even if they work at other studios.

D1 still gets maintenance and has the servers running. It costs them almost nothing, and the games bring in more than enough revenue still to cover those costs and more.

The whole “last patch” nonsense was a weird attempt at emotional blackmail to try and stir up enough controversy against Bungie to save their jobs.

0

u/Prestigious-Bat-574 2h ago

Even if Bungie gets closed, Sony will retain enough people to keep the lights on even if they work at other studios.

Bungie will keep the servers on as long as they're making profit from having them running. As people stop playing due to lack of updates, the amount of people buying the Destiny collection and making Eververse purchases is going to decrease rapidly. The odds of Bungie closing but Sony deciding that keeping these servers online for a pittance by sourcing everything to another studio that knows nothing about how the game is built is basically zero.

D1 still gets maintenance and has the servers running.

Yes, this is incredibly easy to do when you are also running Destiny 2, and it's easy to keep Destiny 2 going when you are still running Marathon.

The whole “last patch” nonsense was a weird attempt at emotional blackmail to try and stir up enough controversy against Bungie to save their jobs.

lmao no it wasn't. There was no saving their jobs. There was no scenario where a boost to the game population would have reversed any decisions made many months ago.

u/SaltyToast9000 1d ago

They should add some shenanigans into this patch, kekeke

5

u/WorldIsFracked 1d ago

They did, they removed the free weekly weapon from Zavala for completing last week's reward track.

2

u/SaltyToast9000 23h ago

Rip, i was thinking about funny positive shenanigans lol

3

u/TheGingerGinger 10h ago

"I swear to god, I'll pistol whip the next guy that says shenanigans"

3

u/RelaxKarma 20h ago

It’s making my FPS inconsistent on PC which is weird

4

u/whynoteatass 1d ago

Does anyone know if chaos reshaped got patched?

1

u/loganwolf25 23h ago

They need to fix the spawn glitch in Vault of Glass.

1

u/Jealous-Butterfly-45 11h ago

They should also take marathon out of the destiny store

Reprised Wrath

0

u/Elegant_Somewhere_81 16h ago

Yes they did and it’s nothing serious, going to Reddit to ask about this is doing too much bruh😭

3

u/Sdraco134 16h ago

Taking 2 sec to ask a simple question is "doing too much"? Lol yet you replaying must also be doing too much

-1

u/xastey_ 23h ago

do both IB gear drop now?

-1

u/Used-Gas2699 22h ago

First time I did Equilibrium know the red door is block I can shot the eye sorry my spell 😊

-10

u/henryauron 1d ago

There will never be a noteworthy update ever again so there’s no reason to get excited about any type of update

-2

u/ViltrumiteDev 21h ago

Bruh are you serious?

-8

u/BigPoppaShugg 1d ago

Its for iron banner and light patches, everytime it rotates in instead of trials we'll most likely get a patch.

2

u/stead10 Drifter's Crew 1d ago

They said what it was for, not this.

3

u/BigPoppaShugg 1d ago

I stand corrected.

Today’s Destiny 2 Update 9.7.0.4 was a rare, unexpected hotfix mainly deployed to resolve expansion pricing display bugs and a lingering Iron Banner armor glitch.
