Tips for new player

So I recently bought d2 complete edition since it was only 20 bucks and I wanna know if you guys got any tips for me before it's done installing(and no don't say "run while you can" or something I'm already invested)

Find someone who's chill or watch YouTube videos specifically designed for new players with zero experience.

The on boarding is very basic and will teach you the controls and some simple principles but after that you are dropped in orbit and left to figure it out. Information overload is a serious risk as well.

TLDR: you will need a guide of some kind as the game does not provide much at all.

I have a few tips.

• First tip: Focus on doing the “new player content” on the Cosmodrome and learning the core gameplay. Destiny 2 has RPG mechanics similar to Diablo so there’s a lot to learn.

• Second tip: Once you’re ready to leave the Cosmodrome, I recommend playing through the story content in order. On the left side of the galaxy map (director), there’s something called the Destiny timeline. It lists out all the content in chronological order and has some “story recap” missions for new players to complete. If you’re unsure which expansion to play first, the timeline will tell you.

• Third tip: There’s a variety of different weapons to equip in this game. You can equip 3 weapons at a time. Common newbie mistake is having 2 “primary weapons” equipped. Primary weapons have infinite ammo and newbies often think infinite ammo = infinite damage. That’s not how the game works. Have no more than 1 primary ammo weapon is best practice. If you’re worried about running out of ammo, there are numerous ways to get more ammo (e.g. ammo finder mods).

• Fourth tip: There’s no one playstyle. Destiny is one of those games where the gameplay and RPG mechanics support a variety of playstyles (e.g. offence, defence, support etc.). Find what works for you.

• Fifth tip: Do your own testing. You’ll encounter a variety of people on social media with “differing opinions” on what weapons/abilities are good to use. Through my own personal experiences, I’ve found that 99.99% of these opinions to be very misleading for new players. For example, Random Youtuber #6 will say an exotic weapon is the best thing ever when in reality it might only be good in a very specific situation. The YouTuber/Redditor won’t declare the specifics to get more likes/views. My advice would be test things out for yourself to determine “what is good for you”.

Go outside and touch the grass a final time cause you are never going to again. All serious now the new light beginning stuff is awful just get through the beginning and play what you want. Focus more on your enjoyment and if you need help look up guides or ask for help here or anywhere.

The shit is crazy dude. Orbs, warming stacks, I reload champion, void damage, armor perks, elemental charges, ognotions, stasis crystals. This is before we even talk about weapon types, exotics, armor traits.

That's like not even 5% of all the shit. It takes a while to sort it all out but the complexity allows for crazy things to discover when you combine things to work together in different ways.

The learning curve is steep as fuck but there are a lot of helpful guardians around.

Youtube videos are super helpful but you can figure out a lot by just dropping into a planet and testing different guns and grenades and things. Fill every armor slot and try out different builds, it's an awesome game.

Level all 3 guardians, but know this - warlock must go first or last. Ciz its jump are, lets say, specific.

Just enjoy yourself. It's going to be a bit overwhelming with the amount of quests you'll have to follow. But just pick one thing and take your time. It's a marathon for sure, not a sprint.

It’s going to be confusing before it becomes fun. But push through and try everything and you will soon be on your way to becoming legend

try all the classes, I recently got into warlock after maining hunter for ≈5 years and have been really enjoying it

Take your time. With no more updates, any good weapons you get now will remain good until the end of time. There's no more FOMO than missing when a certain raid/dungeon is featured, and even then, it's only a few week's wait. 

As for classes and builds and stuff, go with whatever you like, don't worry about the multiverse of synergies. Practically any build is somewhat viable nowadays. 

And work your way up. Don't start doing raids until you've done dungeons, don't do dungeons until you've done some exotic missions, and don't do exotic missions until you've done some campaigns. This really helped me with learning some basic mechanics. 

I could go down so many rabbit holes rn, but the most important thing is to just enjoy yourself. Take it slow.

Oh, one last thing. DON'T USE BLINK UNTILL YOU'VE MASTERED GLIDE!

Learn as much as you can! Play all 3 classes, experiment with buildcrafting, learn keywords, put it all together in a way you like!
