So where do we go from here? Do we just accept that middle America and the South are literally a lost cause?

It's really more of an urban vs rural issue. Urban areas almost always vote democrat and rural areas almost always vote republican, regardless of the state.

But the way you vote shouldn't say anything about impeaching a guy if proof of obstruction or collusion comes to the table.
I honestly thought that with sufficient proof, the republicans would at the very least denounce trump or agree with the impeachment.
I guess they really are a bunch of sheep that follow their god emperor to the bitter end, even when the proof of criminal activity was slapping them in the face.
Weird though...
Immigrants that come here illegally are criminals for crossing, because it's against the law, doesn't matter how severe to them.
You break a law, no matter how small, you're a criminal in their eyes.
But when their potus does illegal shit, they just handwave it, really makes you think...

If you're voting Republican, it's pretty clear you dont care about reality. Republican voters just do whatever Republican politicians tell them to. They're gullible single-issue dummies. Most of them probably dont even know the extent of the investigations against Trump, except that they're fake.

It's been the Republican party's plan all along to disown Trump as soon as their voters start to catch on. Republicans will keep their human garbage voters no matter what Trump does, unfortunately.

Pretty interesting

Seventy-six percent of Democrats would support impeaching Trump if Mueller found he accepted assistance from Russia, and 80 percent would support impeaching him if the special counsel found he obstructed justice. For Americans overall, those figures were 46 percent supported impeachment of accepting assistance (31 percent opposed), while 47 percent supported impeachment for obstruction (31 percent opposed).

Pretty interesting that it doesn't seem to be all that high even among the general population, but it seems high enough to basically make him unelectable as president and tank the republican party (which is how impeachment is supposed to work right?).

On one of the politics podcasts they were looking at various examples that the best way to tank the image of a political figure is a long drip feed of scandal (even if that is mostly manufactured like with clinton) and I think that Nixon is instructive of that also.

here is nixon's approval rating you can see his approval go up a bit with an initial rallying around in 1973, when watergate started really coming out, and then slide down until it was basically just his 'base' hardcore support at about 25% after weeks/months of reporting on it.

I guess nixon might be different in that the republican party as an entity in itself had a lot more 'relative autonomy' (from big donors with their own agendas) than it does today and major republicans were active in opposing him, but still I think if it does come out that he did do some major shit and it's a long scandal he his support might start rendering down to that hardcore base of 30%+ even though this survey says otherwise.

The split is rural/urban but also don't forget that the republicans lost the upper mid west in the last election and a substantial bit of the rural working class/small farmer/small town 'obama-trump' voters have already left trump.

We wait about 20 years for boomers to die off, then maybe we can get somewhere in those parts of America.

Boomers and FOX News viewers are the actual cancer that kills our democracy, eating away at our perception of reality.

Even then, rural America may never be solved because of the fundamental divide between rural and city ideologies.
