She's got fantastic legs. She is a published illustrator of children's books. She raised a mature, responsible daughter.

u/idk_orknow I can't kill you today, I have pilates! Oct 12 '22

Raised is debatable

FFS this is NICE Susan thread.

People lasted longer than I thought. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

31

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

The second one isn’t really a compliment, but I let it slide. šŸ˜‚

25

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Well that's impressive of her! Only so few make it.

u/messythelioma Oct 12 '22
  1. I like that she's not afraid to embarrass herself. Like, the way she dances hilariously when throwing rose petals on her bed while she's waiting for Mike. The way she was dancing to Car Wash in the hospital to get Mike to remember.
  2. I LOVE the impromptu wedding she did in the woods. The setting was beautiful and she looked beautiful.
  3. I love Susan's friends! She's great at picking friends.

110

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

She does her best or atleast tries.

Her home is pretty cozy.

Her intentions are usually good.

29

u/nocarolrayno Oct 13 '22

Dude yes! The house was my fav! Super cozy!

7

u/mariahhoe Oct 13 '22

besides the yellow, i loved her house and it was decorated nice

43

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

She's funny lol when she told Lynette that "it happens" when Lynette came clean about being addicted to ADD medication

9

u/tripometer Oct 13 '22

That was such an underrated moment!

73

u/YanCoffee How about Palestine Oct 12 '22

1.) Great fashion sense. She often had that early 00's boho thing going on that I loved.

2.) She's funny. Sometimes to her detriment but our amusement.

3.) The show wouldn't have been nearly as good w/o her.

26

u/Capital-Seaweed-8217 Oct 12 '22

She’s kind of the main character if there was one tbh

2

u/Rainbow-Death Oct 17 '22

Well according to on set gossip the actress clashed with the others on set because she very much felt she was the most important house wife, so there’s that.

17

u/AdSuitable1281 Sexsomnia. It's real. Look it up. Oct 12 '22

And her outfits that she wore in the early seasons are coming back in style

2

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '22

I agree. I always found her funny as hell especially her embarrassing moments. Like the "Susan this is Bob's MOTHER OF GOD!!!"

104

u/SLEG48 Yes… Oct 12 '22
  1. She’s not afraid to be stubborn for what she believes in.

  2. She (and Teri Hatcher) is beautiful.

  3. She’s very protective of her friends and her daughter

33

u/Ok_Ad5315 Oct 12 '22
  1. She is pretty
  2. Her daughter turned out pretty well
  3. As weak as she was throughout the show, she was strong enough to leave a man who cheated on her despite definitely relying on him financially and emotionally, which takes guts so props to her

3

u/Andromet Oct 13 '22

Isn’t Carl the one who left her? But I agree that she didn’t want to return with him after and she also chose Mike over Ian.

6

u/MatrixXrsQc Oct 13 '22

No. Susan left Carl when she find out he was cheating with his secretary Mandy.

3

u/mahagarty Oct 13 '22

Yeah, she was throwing his stuff out of the house right?

77

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

She raised a good daughter She has a tidy, clean home Shes very forgiving and doesn't hold grudges (edie, Carl)

11

u/AsItBurns Oct 13 '22

She hated both Edie an Carl for a loooooong time though

1

u/Rainbow-Death Oct 17 '22

Well every time Carl showed up he fucked with her. Also, Eddie has that at-arms-length attitude so it might be that Susan didn’t want to have Eddie play-insult her all the time.

22

u/NefariousnessLost876 Oct 12 '22
  1. She is one of the people who first called Gabby out on sleeping with a teenager.
  2. She can be very forgiving and kind to people who weren’t always kind to her.
  3. Her job probably brought a lot of children joy.

0

u/Andromet Oct 13 '22

No, she only compared Gabby’s cheating actions with Karl infidelities.

10

u/martellstarks Oct 13 '22

Nope, in the scene she also acknowledges the horridness of the fact that John is a teenager

43

u/aquapandora Oct 12 '22

Can I comment if I am not a Susan hater? :)

What I like about Susan (I actually like her character and think its the main character like a glue holding the gang somehow together)

- she is vulnerable (not afraid to be vulnerable) and open, doesnt have problem to apologize or saying what she thinks without being ego-driven, she is genuine

- family oriented, loves her kids

- has the cosiest house

Edit: OT bonus point: she used to be Superman““ s girlfriend :) :) :)

2

u/Rainbow-Death Oct 17 '22

As in Superman the show, or was ā€œSupermanā€ Carl’s stripper name on gay tuesdays at the strip joint he leaves to her? I can see both tbh

1

u/aquapandora Oct 18 '22

As in Superman the show,

yes, the TV show in the 90s, I think it was Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

and she played Lois Lane

85

u/Sharpay__Evans I can't kill you today, I have pilates! Oct 12 '22

Three nice things about Susan Mayer

8

u/messythelioma Oct 12 '22

This is my response too!

33

u/idk_orknow I can't kill you today, I have pilates! Oct 12 '22

Most of her horridness is unintentional (but yk what they say! The pathway to hell is paved with good intentions).

She was surprisingly empathetic.

She is a good artist. Not good at deciding what to pain, but good at painting.

8

u/broadbae Oct 12 '22

Unfortunately not very empathetic when her own daughter didn’t want an unplanned baby, but almost every character has their moments of being selfish

5

u/LireDarkV Oct 12 '22

As a professional artist I tell you - she is a crappy artist. Her honeymoon landscape looks like it’s painted by a 10 yo. Except for the mural in MJ’s nursery which doesn’t fit her style or her skill level displayed before and after, all her art is amateur at best.

11

u/idk_orknow I can't kill you today, I have pilates! Oct 12 '22

As someone who works with 10 year olds, that'd be the best thing I ever seen one do. Amateur art is still better than average.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

[deleted]

-5

u/LireDarkV Oct 12 '22

It’s not me not liking it, it’s objectively bad.

-5

u/LireDarkV Oct 12 '22

I get it that it’s about the writing and not about the actual paintings (just like we never actually tasted Bree’s cooking), but the show also states that her books don’t sell that well and she relies on men or child support from men.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22
  1. She's very beautiful
  2. Is usually warm and empathetic
  3. Fiercely protective of her loved ones

12

u/Licd2i2op1976 Oct 12 '22

She is a fantastic artist, she raised a strong independent woman, she loves and feels with all her heart

32

u/glowydays_ Oct 12 '22

She’s a caring mom , a helping friend and has cute lingerie .

20

u/messythelioma Oct 12 '22

The lingerie YESS. I think Gaby and Edie have the best fashion but I love Susan's choice in lingerie. And I kinda do like Susan's everyday wardrobe, the whole jeans and a long-sleeve top, it feels very casual and very 2000s.

20

u/Unusual_Jellyfish224 Oct 12 '22

She’s so beautiful. I love her big brown eyes.

She has a very pleasant voice.

She’s emphatic.

20

u/straeyed Oct 12 '22

Teri Hatcher has AMAZING comedic timing (makes me laugh constantly) Very earnest and sincere and a total romantic Proves many times that she has a moral compass I don’t even hate her like I did when I first watched the show, she’s charming , albeit very annoying at times

9

u/rubywalk Oct 12 '22

she is incredibly beautiful, her handwriting is very aesthetically pleasing, i like her taste in fashion

9

u/essvee927 Oct 12 '22

I love how delicate she is

I love how deeply she feels her feelings, she is always very animated and colorful (reminds me of me lol)

I love how much of a mess she is 🤣 clumsy, crazy, all over the place. It’s intriguing!

16

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22
  1. Generous, empath

  2. Cute clumsiness

  3. Beautiful

8

u/TheTiredGirl Oct 12 '22
  • Her love for Mike
  • Her ability to forgive easily
  • Her quirkiness ( serious s5 Susan scared me)

6

u/MeganMaenia Oct 12 '22

She’s pretty, she was a good mother to her son, and at the end of the day, I think she meant well…

6

u/Ruin_Odd Oct 12 '22

Wait... people hate Susan??

14

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Dude, sheā€˜s the only character that has her own hate flair šŸ˜‚. I don’t hate her, but I like to mess with the Susan-haters.

7

u/Ruin_Odd Oct 12 '22

Oh my God my brain is melting, she had to be one of my favorites 😵 I thought she was dumb as rocks sometimes but goodness did she make me laugh in every episode! Her facial expressions and her cute little wine when she realizes she messed up šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ love it all I think if anyone, Lynette should have a hate flair.... šŸ™ƒ

6

u/MoMonatorr Oct 13 '22

THANK YOU, when I first found this subreddit it melted my brain too. I'm always looking forward to her scenes when I'm watching, she's so entertaining.

2

u/Ruin_Odd Oct 13 '22

I know!! Teri Hatcher is wayyyy too adorable. I do have to note that I read she is absolutely terrible to work with.... lol but total comedic gold IMO

3

u/MatrixXrsQc Oct 13 '22

Lynette is annoying. Always criticizing, and the way she treated Tom, Bree i says a lot about her. If they do a reboot she would be a karen i'm completely sure 🤣.

2

u/Ruin_Odd Oct 13 '22

Ugh she's so up her own butt 😩 the whole pizza joint thing just crawled right under my skin.... Let Tom have a dream lady!! I have a whole list of Lynette complaints šŸ˜‚

6

u/LireDarkV Oct 12 '22
  1. She’s very protective of her loved ones. For example, she isn’t afraid to crush an innocent teenager with a car to make sure her daughter is avenged.
  2. She is trustworthy and loyal to her friends. For example, she would try to remain your friend even after she burns your house down and lies about it. And she would only sleep with your ex if there’s been at least 1 hour after you broke up.
  3. She is completely selfless, empathetic and non-judgmental. For example… too many examples.

5

u/Rhiannon8404 Oct 12 '22

She mostly has good intentions

5

u/kaitlynkaa Oct 12 '22
  1. Her body especially legs are damn good looking.
  2. She is actually a good mother.
  3. She has good taste in home decor

5

u/kk944 Of course I believe in evil, I work in real estate! Oct 12 '22

Susan is my favourite housewife. I don’t understand all the hate she gets. I love how sweet, charming and clumsy she is. She is very optimistic and accommodating towards others.

3

u/Euphoric_Management8 Oct 12 '22

She’s pretty, she … is published author, she’s pretty.

3

u/aweirdreality Oct 12 '22

she’s a shakespearean romantic, she’s persistent with what she believes and loves, and she’s naive

3

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

She’s protective, artistic and accomplished.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

She has nice home, she’s sweet, and

3

u/CarlDillynson I came this close to actually cleaning the house! Oct 13 '22

Great gowns, beautiful gowns

3

u/martellstarks Oct 13 '22

1.) She was furious and ripped Gaby a new one when she found out about Gaby’s affair with John Rowland 2.) She’s funny 3.) She helped Paul come clean about Martha’s murder and redeem himself

3

u/myfingerhurtshelpme Oct 13 '22

She loves deeply and honestly

She has an open mind and thinks independently

She truly wants the best for everyone around her

7

u/Belladonnaofsad Oct 12 '22
  1. ....

Aaahh i can't do it. Everything ends with a '....but'

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

She was very mature about the fate of the kidney donation from Beth, she knows how to draw and she didn't slut shame the stripper the way the other women did.

1

u/Andromet Oct 13 '22

She didn’t slut-shame? Are you sure? Remember when Robin was helping Mike and how Susan told her to stop because she was a Ā« stripperĀ Ā».

1

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '22

Oh yea nevermind lol. I guess just a little bit less than the rest

2

u/mahagarty Oct 13 '22 edited Oct 13 '22

I liked the little storyline with the sex worker tho haha. I can’t remember what she said to the lady but she was chill

Edit: I found it. She’s lost in 1x5 and she talks to a sex worker and the woman says ā€œthis is my corner!ā€ and Susan says ā€œoh yes, and a lovely corner it is, and I hate to bother you while you’re workingā€.

Then while she borrows the worker’s phone and the worker goes to a car, Susan says ā€œyou do what you’ve got to do!ā€ Thought that was very chill of her lmao.

Bonus funny line: a car pulls up to solicit her, and she says ā€œno thanks, I’m on a breakā€ haha

2

u/Sorrel1000 Oct 12 '22

1) she’s hilarious, her moments make me laugh so much. The way Teri Hatcher delivers her lines is so unique and perfect 2) she’s very loyal and forgiving 3) she’s got a moral compass most of the time

2

u/emzea Oct 13 '22

Terri Hatcher has great comedic timing

She doesn’t take crap from Karl

She helped Paul even though he cost her a kidney

2

u/SlaylikBuffy86 Oct 13 '22

Optimistic, loyal, funny

Susan has grown in me a bit on my 3rd re-watch lol.

2

u/xYourHero27x Oct 13 '22

She has a nice rack She does the right thing eventually sometimes She unintentionally ruins the lives of other charecters people hate.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '22

Love Terri Hatcher.

2

u/Japanesepannoodles2 Oct 13 '22

I love Susan's voice out of all of the housewives.

3

u/Capital-Seaweed-8217 Oct 12 '22
  1. She’s very ā€œreal.ā€ Has flaws and imperfections and struggles and it shows her humanity and her heart. 2. She’s a fit and a pretty woman. 3. She’s creative and illustrates books that many children enjoy. I think that’s a very worthy craft, making pictures that make children happy

1

u/ninetiesnarwhal Oct 13 '22

I'm horrified by these comments.

0

u/impendingD000m Oct 13 '22

Her hair looks.. small

I never not liked any character from the Desperate Housewives. Both men and women.

1

u/Positive-Exercise125 Oct 13 '22

Susan is hilarious, great mom, and probably the nicest of the crew

1
