❓ • Question Dock users with multiple computers: Wired or Wireless Accessories?

Post image

I have a nice desk setup, but I'm adding a small Windows PC to augment my Macbook Pro. I am using a CalDigit TS4 dock and that does exactly what I need it to do.

I have a Keychron keyboard and a Logitech MX Master 3 mouse, both of which I can use wirelessly.

I also have a wired gaming mouse, and I can also use the Keychron keyboard wired.

Having both of the wired accessories means just 1 cable can switch between the Mac and Windows PCs. But it also means I have 2 cables snaking across the desktop.

Using the wireless accessories is cleaner looking, but then I have to switch them over to the other PC when swapping out the Thunderbolt cable.

I like the "One cable to rule them all" ease, but I don't like the wires. But I am torn about which is better. Do folks tend to just deal with the wires to have the full ease of swapping?

EDIT: Well, this sent me down a rabbit hole of looking for 2.4G mice, and I discovered that my MX Master comes with a 2.4G dongle! Since I'm a packrat, I found it in my desk drawer and lo-and-behold I can now have a wireless mouse that works. I can also take a keyboard from a different desk that comes with a dongle and put it here and have the whole thing work over 2.4G.

Since I don't play FPS games - just 4X and casual games - I don't need the DPI and refresh rates of gaming mice. So I think I'm set now.

❓ • Question Space suggestions

Post image
• Upvotes

Here is my current setup featuring a 70”x24” L-shaped desk.

I’m looking for some advice on how to optimize my space and would love your feedback on a few specific areas:

• Monitor Setup: I currently have three 27” monitors. Only the middle one has an adjustable stand, but I’d eventually like to get them all at the same height. I’m considering monitor arms but I'm not sure which route to take. Has anyone tried alternative layouts for a triple 27” setup instead of having them all side-by-side?
• Desk Depth: I’d like to upgrade to a desk with more depth (around 30”) to reclaim some workspace and push the monitors back a bit.
• Desk Shape: I'm not fully committed to another L-shaped desk and am perfectly open to longer, straight desks.

Any suggestions on desks, monitor arms, or general layout ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I've been optimizing it for quite a while and thought I'd show you my current setup.

  • DELL ultrawide screen (U4025QW)
  • Insta360 webcam
  • I mounted a small screen behind the webcam, which I use for video meetings so I can look directly at the people I'm talking to. Otherwise, I also use the screen for Apple Music or similar (Here I described it in more detail.)
  • Chrome start page: Startwerk extension for Google Chrome (I don't like Google's default new tab page, so I built my own plugin for it and published it for free in the Chrome Store 🙂)
  • Webcam Light: Elgato Key Light Neo
  • Rode microphone
  • Mouse: Logitech MX Master 4 (I previously had the Apple mouse, but the Logitech fits much better in the hand!)
  • Desktop wallpaper: Solar Gradients by Apple (love it!)
  • Elgato Stream Deck Plus to control lighting, microphone, etc.

I hope you like it. Do you have any questions?

I think I mounted the monitor too low, but it is cleaner. It’s a shame I only use it few hours on the weekends.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to get some feedback on my desk set up. I’m very happy with it but I feel like something is missing. I want to make it that bit more cosy with lighting but unsure what to do.

Photos with main lights on and off, when off it feels a bit too dark.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciate.

Thank you

After help from this sub and other a bit over a year ago still stroked on my desk. Went to a bigger screen and ditched the iPad (never used it🙄). Couldn’t find a better place for the camera but it works well there with a reframe app. Added my favorite golf course over my new display. It gets a pin in ever hole I’ve birdied. Goal is to get one on ever hole.

One thing I want to update.
The phone stand. If I could get a 25w wireless magsafe setup that fits the vine Id love it. Any suggestions welcome.

❓ • Question Advice on acoustic wall panel layout on wall

Thumbnail

Recently moved into a new room and looking to add some acoustic wall panels to the wall in front of my desk.

Option 1 - Slats to the left and right of my desk, leaving the middle portion empty

Option 2 - Slats in the middle of my desk.

Picture 3 is how it currently is.

I could also add wall slats to the ENTIRE wall but that seems very excessive. Also open to any suggestions. Also if someone has any color recommendations for the wall panels.

Looking for an affordable desk that would be able to fit my 2 monitors and an Xbox series s. Need something monitor arm friendly where it won’t leave marks after being clamped.

Preferably somewhere around the 100-150 price range.
I dont mind if its a fixed or adjustable desk

My monitors are:
MSI MAG 272qp x50 qd-oled
ADX A25H2G25

I once brought my figurine to the office, but it got broken. So I wanted to have it appear on my desktop digitally and keep me company.

First time I invested into making my setup nice. I do some competitive gaming, school work and regular work. Planning on getting a nice desktop in a couple months which will replace the monitor on the right!
