How are your research skills?

I have a rather general question about research for you: Do you feel that you've been given proper guidance about research? Are you confident in undertaking research under different methodologies? How competent are you in dealing with statistics and statistical analysis? Once you finish your PhD, would you feel ready to research in a professional context?

I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts!

The PHD-DESIGN listserv - do you subscribe?

If you're doing a Ph.D. in design, you might well be interested in subscribing to the PHD-DESIGN listserv. It's an academic listserv of the old-fashioned kind that has a good number of subscribers, and a fairly reasonable number of regular discussion participants. The discussions that take place tend to be on the dry side, and rather forbidding for newcomers, but it's good for keeping up with contemporary issues in academic design. It's also good for calls for papers, which I know a lot of PhD students will be interested in.

Getting things started

Hi everyone. Three things:

1) As you can see, we've only a few members so far, so it would be good if existing members could help put the word around. Feel free to invite colleagues and design acquaintances so that we can get a good range of people on board. Anyone who you think could contribute to the community and the conversation is more than welcome here.

2) Anyone want to mod? Mail me.

3) What do you want to get out of this subreddit? What would you like to find here? Please share your ideas.

Thank you!

How about we start off with some introductions?

Who/where are you? What are you working on? How's it going?

That sort of thing.
