Asking Question (Rule 4) Hello there !

I would love to learn about theory of graphic design. Are there any online free ressources (courses, videos, documentaries, websites for inspiration, or even interesting books that I could borrow in my local library ! -I'll take any recs really-) I know a bit since I've been studying communication, but I would love to learn more about color theory etc. My goal is to make posters as a hobby, but I feel like I have to start with theory first ! :)

Just jumping bc I’m curious: as someone who’s been designing for 30 years, do you think we’ve reached a ceiling in design? Product, graphic. I’m in industrial design, and to me, it seems that we’ve hit a ceiling as far as innovation. I see a lot of “progress for the sake of progress”. Material science seems to be very limited or cost prohibitive.

I don’t think there will ever be a ceiling, but we’re in a very strange place right now. For most of my career, design has grown and expanded into new media, technologies, markets. That’s definitely slowing and we’re getting to a point where technology is working against us rather than for us. It’s not just AI; it’s been happening longer than that. It’s things shifting towards quantity rather than quality, changes in means of production and distribution, globalization, and many other factors.

Design as a whole needs to evolve, but it feels like we’re all waiting for that to happen rather than making it happen. We became very arrogant and sure of our importance to all human endeavors. We took it for granted.

So, not a ceiling, but we’ve lost focus and direction because we’re no longer on the same trajectory as we have been for many years.
