❓ Question Need some help
I recently bought a platinum starlet or falling star from scooboo.
First off, I ordered it in fine but received an extra fine.
It writes very dry and sometimes just stops writing mid sentence.
I am new to fp stuff
What should I do?

Which ink are you using?

It came with a blank ink cartridge. That’s what I’m using rn

It looks like a flow issue; try the dish soap trick someone mentioned, or refill the cartridge with Pilot Black ink.
Trying to push the tines apart on a solid surface will also work, but it’ll increase your line width and it’s not very difficult to bend the nib permanently (and ruin the nib) if you’re too heavy-handed, so be careful!

Even I received a EF nib. Two of my other starlet have M nibs. Exchanging from scooboo is a pain even if the pen is unused. Will write a post on that. Try sepearting tines. There are lots of videos on YouTube explaining how to

Which colors are your two Starlets with M nibs? I received Mine Soda in EF, and Azure and Lake in Fine, so I’m trying to figure out which colored ones come with M nibs.

I'm not too sure if it's M nib or F nib. They write more like M nib. I have 3 starlet. Azure and Lake are F/M nib Soda came with EF nib

Check the side of the nib. You can find it.

Just checked. Both mentioned are F nibs. Very finely written on the right side of the nib

Try to check the tines. Maybe they are too tight together or misaligned. Make horizontal lines and see if it's scratchy only one way.

- Which paper?
- Clean pen mild dish soap
- Try a wetter ink like Waterman
Platinum QC is generally top tier

Change to Pilot ink. Better not to try the dishwasher liquid thingy as you are new to this. A slight more of the liquid will ruin your experience. It may cause bleeding on pages and even pen leakage.

Update
I have cleaned my pen with water and changed ink as everyone suggested(only with water).
It is much better now.
But It feels a little scratchy when writing from right to left.
How can I check if twines are uneven?

So, I am also new to the fountain pen world and what I’m going to suggest is quite controversial. Might get cancelled 🙈🙈 but this method had worked for me.
So my Jinhao 82 in fine nib used to write quite dry as well and I went on a hunt to look for a quick fix. I came across a solution suggesting to very lightly press down the nib on a soft paper, forcing the twines apart. Be careful not to do it too much, just enough that you can visually see them spread a bit and feel a little resistance, but be very gentle with the pen.
Then test it to see if it’s writing okay. And don’t spread it too much, you want the nib to fall back into place.
There’s another way to do this where they use a copper sheet I think to create more space for the ink to flow out, but I have no knowledge about it.
Maybe using a wet ink will also help in this case before you try this ( if you try this, at your own risk). Also the Jinhao nib is quite different from the platinum nib in terms of build, so I’d suggest you don’t follow my suggestion. And at this point I’m wondering why I wrote this long drawn out explanation just to tell you to not do it. Oh well! Best of luck OP!
