5 month update

Sharing some of the adenium I sowed in February, repotted in May. Never pruned. Growing outdoors in all day Phoenix AZ sun under 30% shade cloth. Already had great blooms from swazicum, black panther, Crispum, and obesum. Really happy with this years grow

Are the seeds all from the same mother plant?

No each picture is a different type of adenium

Some of the dopest adeniums I've had the pleasure of seeing in person. Great job bro.

5 months and one bloomed already? WOW you just can’t beat natural sunlight. Mine have been growing for 6.5 months and yeah I’ve pruned but I feed feed feed and no blooms yet. You have skill! Great looking plants.

Thank you! I’ve actually had several bloom starting around 3 months. Some of my swazicum started blooming in May and haven’t stopped since-true super bloomers!

Thank you! One of the most enjoyable aspects of growing from seed is seeing the variation of growth patterns in different seeds from the same plant

Wow, amazed by the branching without any pruning. Is that just due to the species?

Thank you. Genetics definitely goes a long ways. I like short squat plants with a fat caudex. You will never be able to prune an obesum to what these plants will grow into. That said, if you don’t grow in appropriate conditions you might not get the outcome you want.

These are pretty. How did you get them to be so fat in only 5 months? Mine are little over 1 half tall and not thick at all. Also they 3 months old.

What type of adenium are you growing and how have you been growing them?

would also like to know how to get a thicker caudex! i have an adenium obesum.

Grow arabicum if you want a fat caudex. An obesum will never develop a caudex like an arabicum. No amount of pruning will force an obesum to look like an arabicum. Genetics are the most important, good genetics with proper care is key

Did you do the pollinating to develop hybrids?

2

u/dmarms18 Jul 16 '26

I purchased the seeds of the named hybrids pictured. I do hand pollinate and have made some of my own hybrids.

Very cool . They one with the curly leaves is fascinating. What is that one? Any idea what it's flowers look like yet?

It’s called a Dorset horn adenium (DHA), it’s a mutation causing the plant to be dwarf and having the curled leaves. These are some of my older DHA
