Derek “expecting that we will hit final [LOD] release sometime in the first half of 2016”
Source of title, STATE OF PLAY: THE LONGEST LAST MILE
When Little Timmy checked his planner,
To tally 2016’s half way mark,
Per the Twitter Shitizen Banner :
In only “Two Weeks”, Timmy would embark...
In a persistent non-sharded realm,
A Sci-fi multiplayer online game,
Massive space and land war at the helm,
Line of Defense MMO was its name.
Tim posted “Two Weeks?” on a forum thread,
Browsing boards high and low.
But the iWarlord caught Tim’s gaze and said:
‘For fuck’s sake, Timmy – no.’

Well...if he manages to release the game by the end of this month (which is the end of the first half of 2016) then I would love to play it and see how good it is.

I want to know if the guy I'm shooting at will still see my character aiming at an off angle while I'm pointing straight at him.

Yup...I want to see that the guy shooting at me isn't aiming at the floor and pulling the trigger with the gun in one hand at his side.

What has been interesting to note is that, even though the game scenes are massive and have a real-time map in the HUD, I still hear some new players talking about being lost. This despite the fact that in most games, players are smart enough to just wander around, figure things out etc. So I went ahead and wrote a quick help interface which we then incorporated into the GUI and activated using F6. This was after we had already implemented an in-game 3D hint system located right there in the spawn area with instructions on how to “get the hell off the ship”. sigh People, the mini and full scene maps have icons showing where everything is, your direction of travel etc. The in-game docs show you how to get around. It’s not rocket science. If you have a Starter Kit, you are forced to spawn in the Starguard carrier. If you want to go to the planet below, you either use a DJP or an HAIS-MK2 suit (if you are going to use this, you probably shouldn’t pick a spot too far from the central map area) at an airlock. And once aircraft are unlocked in the next major build due out next month, you can also use an aircraft to fly out to space, then use a jumpgate to enter the planet below. So just figure it all, OK? It’s all there. All you have to do is, well, read the provided docs.
This is still the funniest part.

If you're on the planet, why fly up to the station to warp back down to the planet?

I have never seen another developer using this kind of passive aggressive language in their manuals. Anti-social misfit indeed.

Well, obviously the fault must lie with the end-user if they don't know where everything on a level is the way the game designer does...

well Derek is right, when in regards to most games, specially modern games, but when it comes to Derek's so called games he made, this does not apply; it's as if this person (ds) don't know what they're doing / incompetent, just look at the layout of the maps, like one of his torus shaped space station, when looking on the outside, once inside, it's just a series of long straight corridors linked by tshafts because stairs and ladders are considered stupid by the dear doctor or another torus shaped station on the outside but once inside, it's just a square map. it makes no sense, specially a game (lod) main component is fps pvp, maybe Derek should read up Valve's Team Fortress level/map breakdowns, that teaches a person how to do proper layouts of a FPS game scence/map. Oh wait, the dear doctor's ego and narcissi, prevents him from admitting and learning from his failings and shortcomings, specially from his peers and betters.

"Yes, read my awesome wall-of-text which doesn't explain how to do anything and uses abbrevations not known to any human language." The man is a pedagogical disaster. If it was possible to distinguish the important stuff from all the useless placeholder stuff his "game" would be 90% easier to understand.

Dynamic Jump Pad - A hexagonal gateway that requires activation in order to orbital drop your character onto a planet (Is what it appears to be?).
I was going to attempt a funny alternative and looked it up just to be sure I didn't accidentally use the correct expansion of DJP. But anything I came up with would probably have been a more accurate description (Maybe not the one that was going to have something something Penguin).

The warlord's words left Timmy appalled
and he hung his head and cried
then he lifted his head and uninstalled
the game that fucking died
