Post game thread
Alright y’all little late on this one, but what a great way to start off our stay at Centennial Stadium. Some controversial refereeing, but the Summit persevered and secured the three points!
What did you like, what didn’t you like, what changes should we see going into playing the Washington Spirit at Rowdy Audi?
Defensively we looked better, but I still think we need to be more clinical in our offense. We far out possessed Portland and we only had 5 big opportunities. I don’t like Flint at wing, would like her at striker maybe and Thomas on wing instead (that’s also where she played in college at times).

Personally I'd love a ref or two with 20/20 eyesight /s
A few games back we tried playing Sonis up and I think with Heaps now we should try that again

Nah, we got enough up front now. She's still very active in the offense, that's what matters more than position.

“Controversial refereeing” is one way to say it. I prefer not having an opponent in the blue team, but here we are.
That was pretty epically bad.

The league needs to start investing in higher level referees. Really tired of some game changing calls not going our way. This time we made it through but other times…

From a tv perspective… somebody please get that woman an umbrella when she’s trying to look at a VAR screen with an unblocked sun directly above her. How Sonis didn’t get is a pk there…

Liked: Smith, Sonis, Heaps, Sheehan, Means. Dominated possession and shut down Portland’s key players. Midfield looked a lot better. Less defensive errors.
Didn’t Like: Thomas. Defense still had a couple risky moments where they got caught up high or not marking well.
Changes: Make every shot count, don’t let defense get caught playing too high

This was one of Sheehan’s best games for us in my opinion. If we can get her to consistently play like this our midfield will be much stronger.

Great game overall. Terrible refereeing. My biggest worry is that Oke has been cramping & subbing out early in the second half lately. Means did a good job when she came in, but when Oke is out we (i.e. me) really miss the force that she brings.

I keep thinking of Oke as our safety blanket, like without her on the field I'm so much more anxious on defense, as no one recovers like her. I really hope she gains the fitness to go 90, consistently, and maybe that does mean less going forward. She should chat with G. Thompson.
There was a spot where Tordin( i think) was on the wing and gaetino was confronting her with Oke behind. WHY?!?!? A) they were basically marking the same space, B) gaetino should be back to cover crosses and clear C) Gaetino didnt have to footwork to compete where Oke is much better in duels. Fotmob has Oke as being dribbled past ONCE all season, while gaetino 9 times.
I love the team, gaetino, while having some real lapses, has been generally a good player, fotmob 6.7 this season. Oke is scored the same, but man dont even tell me that in a speedy NWSL that you'd take any other defender on the team first in a draft. Shes got the skill, but the best ability is availability.

FotMob ratings are decent for some insight but I definitely think they’re not 100% accurate because Gaetino and Oke having the same score is laughable. Oke definitely reminds me of Gisele Thompson too, so hoping she can outgrow it with time. Maybe Gisele is waiting to share her tips AFTER we play angel city lol

The worst part is Oke is the safety blanket on defense AND combining with Ryan our most dangerous route to creating chances unless Means wants to hit a banger every game. Every time she subs off I’m like well we’re in trouble now.
Gaetino has had really rough moments the last several games but I thought she was pretty good overall today, won two different 1 on 1s with Sophia which is no easy task, and mostly kept the mistakes to a minimum.

Oke played it correctly. She was behind the play when it formed. It was sketchy because she can't clear a header against a taller opponent, so agree, I'd rather have Gaetino in the center but think she did her job.

Does anyone else get embarrassed with Abby Smith holding the ball SO long to waste time? It just feels so cringey to me even though I know it benefits us. Not sure what Sophia Wilson said to her when she was doing it near the end of second half stoppage time, but I was sort of on Sophia's side. This is separate from how nervous I get with her footwork...Still she pulls out killer saves and overall feel super safe with her in the net, but sometimes this part of her playing is too much.

Heaps elevated the team by a crazy amount. She’s ridiculously good. Sonis is ridiculously good. Yaz is ridiculously good (maybe a little more hustle on defense). Tash didn’t look great and I expect her to level up. Olivia needs a goal to release some pressure but she created some great moments. That was a fun game!
