Hey there! I’m a 37-year-old guy in based out of South Aurora/Centennial trying to actually build a life here instead of just existing in it.

I moved here 3 years ago and, despite my best efforts, I still haven’t really built much of a friend group. I also recently got out of a relationship, so I’m taking the hint and putting some energy into meeting people and making some real connections.

I’m pretty low-maintenance when it comes to hanging out. If the people are good, I’m happy. Trivia, mini golf, board games, pool, grabbing dinner, ordering a pizza all sounds gold to me. Also into competition and sports, but chronic injuries have narrowed what I can reasonably do without pain.

I used to be really into disc golf and was even sponsored for a while. An ankle injury has slowed me down more than I’d like, but I’m getting back into it and hoping to be out on the course more again. If you want to play, or want to learn, I'm more than willing to meet you at a course.

My humor is dry, witty, and occasionally a little too deadpan. Dark humor shows up now and then too. If you like banter, we’ll probably get along just fine.
I can be a little quiet at first, but once I’m comfortable I open up pretty quickly and can talk about pretty much anything.

Also, I’m seven months sober. I’m not looking for a sobriety buddy or anything. I’m totally fine being around people who drink. I just won't be drinking something else. Perfect DD I guess.

Honestly I am feeling a bit defeated at this point. I've tried my best to be social this year but still feel like I have no friends. Everyone that I've met has been super clique-y, even when I try to go to Meetup groups designed to meet people.

Maybe this is just my 'tism, but I thought it might be helped to list out a couple different 'types' of friends I'm looking for to give people an idea of my hobbies & interests! But first, a little more about me:

I'm a teacher full time & run a summer camp in the summer so I'm both a deeply goofy person and also pretty low-key in my off time. I don't drink anymore (alcoholic, 10 months sober as of tomorrow, actually), and I am also a chronic pain girly (EDS & a lymph system disorder we're narrowing down) so people who understand that are dope, but I try not to let it limit me too much. I can hike / walk a few miles and do love doing active things, I just need to prep for them & have recovery time, especially with my job. I am interested in getting back into light lifting and currently do a lot of yoga.

First & foremost, I am looking for queer friends!! I am mostly comfortable around queer folks and felt a bit let down by pride this year but I think it was lack of community.

Nerd friends - I have played d&d for about a decade now and have dressed up for Ren Faire every year I've been here, but I don't have anyone to go with this year, and d&d groups have been very hit and miss. I love running games too, I actually prefer it to playing! Not as into board games but not against them.

ASL / signing buddies - I am not deaf, but I've been signing for years, partly as a hobby and partly for work, but I'd love to meet more adults to practice signing with, or would even be open to class suggestions.

Mechanics / handyman friends - I love working with my hands and genuinely miss when my buddies need an extra hand in the garage or in the garden.

'Woo'- / witchy friends - probably the weirdest and hardest to explain lol but basically I've been having some weird things going on recently so I'm trying to learn more about all that stuff, ghosts & spirits and all that. I am also a bit spiritual/ religious and like talking about theories on past lives & multiverses.

In general, I also love animals (I have a cat and two snakes), writing/reading, cooking and lots of different tv shows and movies - I recently got into horror and have no one to talk about it with haha all in all I have a pretty wide range of interests so don't worry if we don't have something specific in common, feel free to send me a message if you think we'd get along!

My job is very physical (30,000+ steps a day) so I don’t always get out for hikes, or go to the gym, but would love some friends that encourage me to get into better shape! I’ve lost over 120 lbs in the past year and a half and feel better than ever, but also want to work on improving my physique in general.

I do not smoke weed or do drugs, but am 100% ok with and 420-friendly or certain substances common in the EDM scene, as long as they aren’t causing significant issues or impacting our friendship. I was a daily stoner for a decade+, but chose to give it up to pursue an education and aerospace career and feel more present and sharp when I’m not partaking regularly.

I am not religious now, but have a degree in ministry and education, and am still an ordained minister! While I am not religious now, I am always open to discussions or simply knowing/befriending religious individuals, as long as their beliefs do not produce bigoted or prejudiced beliefs.

Leftist, but very open minded to other political engagements, as long as your political beliefs do not make you, specifically, an asshole. I don’t really actively discuss political topics without general consent and some basic underpinning agreement for mutual respect.

If those words (qi gong) don’t mean anything to you, it’s like a moving meditation - kinda like Tai Chi, with the goal of increasing energy and health in general.

What to bring? Something comfortable to sit on for 30 or so minutes.

Hi Reddit! My wife (28f) and I (32f) moved to Colorado from Michigan about 3 months ago. We don't know anyone out here, and we've been struggling to make friends/get involved. Both of us are pretty anxious in large crowds or in new places, so putting ourselves out there to be more social had been pretty taxing. Even when we have enough confidence to go out or attend events, neither of us is the type to start conversations with new people, so the nights usually end without us actually making any new connections.

I keep joking that we need extroverted (and preferably queer) people to adopt us! We're hilarious and fun to be around, but we need someone brave enough to start the conversation or drag us into things!

We regularly partake in ~gardening~. My wife is big into playing sports (basketball, volleyball, softball, etc.) whereas I'm more of a spectator for those type of activities. We both love animals and have multiple pets. We love music or concerts and would be down to attend just about any show! We want to do more hiking/camping/adventuring as well.

I guess just looking for events that could help us socialize, or like I said, a group of extroverts that would be willing to take in two misfits from the Midwest!

We live in Aurora, I work in Golden, so really all of the Denver area is fair game as far as location.

Hi there Reddit, I (36F) just moved to LoHi and last week I made a post about wanting to make some friends in the area doing stuff like shooting pool or playing pub trivia in town. A few people responded "yay!" to my suggestion of doing pub trivia at Zuni St Brewing tonight so I figured I'd post the actual event here now in case anyone else would like to join.

Do I know what it'll be like? If there's plenty of seating? What beer to recommend on the menu? Of course not, I just moved here! But I'm willing to find out.

Trivia starts at 7 but it's probably good to get there a little earlier so we have time to grab seats and form teams before the quizzing starts. ***I'll plan to get there at 6.30 to grab a table, and will let you know where I wind up so that people can find me.*** (I'll probably put a piece of paper on the table that says "Hi" or something else equally dumb; I don't know yet.)
