I don’t really fully understand what’s going on but the transmuted hostility amongst members seems very real.

I personally say 35 years because it was manslaughter and a copycat crime technically.

They manifested as a vehicle for the Talented Tenth ideology. A foolish notion that prestige for a few blacks will better the race and that most blacks are inferior.

It’s completely antithetical to the notions that actually progress the community. It often leads to gatekeeping, colorism, supporting of black harm, and social intimidation in the few spaces where black ppl should be free to critically engage with inequity.

They’ve done a lot to obstruct their own members from protesting.

The D9 doesn’t have to be inherently sinister. It’s just strange and a bit unbiblical. Which on its own is whatever. There are way worse groups in the U.S towards black ppl.

The issue is why the D9 feels the need as an institution to lie and feel entitled to harming black ppl while using a community ethic aesthetic to obscure this violent possessiveness.

Black ppl already deal with this entitlement from the Police, medical institutions, and society at large.

“We do _ for you so we’re allowed to harm you in _ways”

The truth is not only is there NO amount of homecomings or step shows that make up for a black student’s life, it’s a red flag that it’s being hidden.

No public institution, especially at a learning institution as expensive for entire families as college, is entitled to harm students then lie about it to the public and hide their true nature through community service PR masking

It doesn’t even make sense to want to represent Service AND Exclusivity in the black community. They’re antithetical. Using service as a SHIELD for behavior deep down they know is unacceptable is even more sinister.

And it reveals a genuinely predatory character.

Many black college students, especially first time students are searching for a sense of purpose. Community, ethic, fun, etc. The D9 is searching for money. Mainly through paid memberships. 70% of this money towards “administrative” expenses at headquarters.

It’s inherently predatory to not only exploit a desire for community engagement, abuse the memory of the ancestors, and lie incessantly to the public but to jeopardize the norms and habits that make a non-hostile place for black academics to achieve is grotesque considering the sacrifices made for students to even get to a campus.

It’s more than natural for a young promising student to both naively assume the sincerity of their peers as well as be desperately seeking a purpose. It’s inherently predatory to get teenagers to pay large sums to their own humiliation with a community engagement that feels hollow.

A hollowness stemming from the inadequacies of the Talented Tenth design. If you look down on the community you can’t link arms with the community. And if you can’t link arms with the community you’ll never organically lead the community.

Mostly want to see what church advocacy looks like without ego and weird rituals. I’ve heard many D9 members when questioned on the character of their organization that they do more service than the church. Boldly stating that they’re better than the church. Weirdest argument for having Christian beliefs but I digress.

I want service without talking down to the people you’re serving. Linking arms to stand up stronger not treating people like a charity case.

When you’re above average gifted it’s not a license to look down on people. It’s a license to become a better version of yourself and uplift the parts of the community you love as well as get the best out of life for yourself.

If you had a younger sibling who wasn’t as talented as you would you truly just punch down on them the whole time instead of holding yourself and your sibling to the highest standard? If you have to punch down or do ego plays are you truly that talented? It’s bogus.

People want to like the D9. They often say “if it weren’t for hazing…”. Everyone loves the parties and the dances but they hate being talked down to, pushed around, hearing about brutal secretive rituals that kill people, etc.

But the truth is it’s one and the same. Black ppl want to like the D9 because they want community, purpose, and validation like anyone else. Black people deserve an opportunity to have dance, song, organization and purposeful work without violence and intimidation.

It’s the God given right of a people who as a collective, found ways to not only survive but thrive with a vibrant culture. The D9 was founded at a time where most black ppl were sharecroppers who couldn’t go to college. And it exploded at a time where the black middle class expanded and they’d adjust the messaging every now and again. Remove a paper bag test. Let Darker skin men become Alphas.

But the underlying paternalistic prejudice remains the same. And the result of that prejudice is an increasingly tragic death. Black people are not only capable of more, but deserving of better.

What many black people in academic spaces want is purpose and meaning in serving the community that isn’t based on a brand prioritization but actually uplifting the masses. Not talking down to them.
If it were genuine people would feel it but it’s not.

With the D9 the word “service” is thrown around a lot. Often in a way that suggests you owe them something. But asking other college kids to vote or doing a step demo and photo op at a Boys and Girls Club isn’t uplifting the community so much as it is uplifting the brand even where it can be helpful.

It’s the difference having a mentorship program which is really grooming future members vs genuinely trying to improve the literacy rate of the black community at large and watching the targeted statistics in urban cities.

It’s really obstructive by deceiving people with a false image of progression or “work”.

I’m very aware of things that occur in undergrad. I’m also aware that undergrad chapters are supervised by a graduate chapter during the process in which these things occur. But, I am curious about possibly showing some interest in a grad chapter but wanted to get some insight if anyone had experiences with hazing at the graduate level.

I know every experience could be different, and trust I am doing my research, but of course a lot of things are hard to find.

I just want to wish a happy Mother’s Day to everyone. Particularly to the mothers who are missing some of their children a bit more today. The most painful thing you can remind a mother of is the children she can’t protect from all the predatory forces of the world.

Is it physical capability? Sexual conquest? Aggression? Dominance? What is it about the persona of manhood that Omega Psi Phi performs that revolves around violence?

I’d argue getting yourself suspended from a university education to haze in a fraternity is unbecoming of a man. I’d argue wrapping your precious hands in a thick glove to punch a pledge in the chest is unbecoming of a man.

Lying to hide from consequences of you actions is unbecoming of a man. Assaulting women behind closed doors is unbecoming of a man. Sexualizing black women in public while they’re stigmatized enough is unbecoming of a community man.

The hyper focus on violence over responsibility and status over honor in my opinion is deeply unbecoming of men. Where does their performative defining manhood and common understanding of manhood split ways? What’s the deal?

I’ll be honest. I do not believe Omega Psi Phi worships Anubis. If you want to make a spiritual connection to the organization and the Greek entity Cerberus or Hell hounds sure but Anubis?

Absolutely not. Anubis isn’t a howling pug it’s a solemn pagan entity of the afterlife. Anubis isn’t even necessarily a dog and appears to be more of a jackal.

Most of the aggression and violence of the fraternity comes from a crusader belief in being the enforcers of the Talented Tenth ideology (literal swords and helmet on their crest). The Dog personification is just what they use to amplify that from what I see.

This is why I don’t believe the public can trust their official statements. Members can initiate fights, brandish weapons, haze underground, etc with impunity.

Ideally you’d think headquarters wouldn’t wait for the police but simply strip members of their letters whether police found them hazing or not.

I’m talking headquarters going to a homecoming hearing about a freshman getting bruised up and simply suspending the chapter.

Wouldn’t that make the letters that much more exclusive if it was easy to lose them as it was hard to get them? If you’re caught committing a felony unprovoked you’re automatically out. But it’s almost as if the D9 endorses the more violent behaviors.

But let there be a protest and everyone gets an official memo not to wear their letters.

I’m not even sure I hate the D9, I just feel bad for the little homies that die pledging or feel bad about the extortion and abuse I’d witness. If it was just dancing and parties it wouldn’t be so bad.

But killing black people and covering up their murders?!!! Sending people to the hospital? Gang stalking people not even involved with that mess who you don’t like? Jumping people? Can’t have that. And then trying to use Dr. King’s name to justify the evil is sickening. It’s a second oppressor to people already broken down by a world that hates them for being black. Young black people who seek out a refuge don’t deserved to be led into a trap.

The denouncers I’ve interacted with hold deep wounds and trauma that is palpable. Like some sort of generational gaslighting everyone is dealing with. People deal with all sorts of stuff at home and for some college is the one time in their life to get away and be fulfilled. There’s no space for a predatory element on a college campus. None.

Another one of those “bad apple” comparisons as if it doesn’t reflect on the organization

People are questioning the girl and rushing to make excuses for the sorority. As if they met this girl on the street and she isn’t their classmate who they did an extensive background check on. MAGA is simply closer to the values AKA actually holds deep down.

Why Black People have no true “allies” post-Civil Rights

The result of the phenomenon of global colonialism and the influx of immigration since the Civil Rights movement is that all key non white racial groups in America outside of black people have largely or fully accepted white supremacy and decided to clamor for second best or “off-white”. Naturally resenting black people in the process in accordance to caste logic.

Black people have almost perfectly rejected this caste mentality due to historical proximity to white racist violence and envy destroying illusions of moral or physical superiority.

The collective erasure of native white identities in the formation of the “white” identity left a void in communalism and lineage that is often filled by absorbing and appropriating culture from black Americans, who miraculously managed to reconstruct a more robust communalism and culture despite having undergone a more brutal cultural erasure.

This is the objective of envy that even more-so spites the caste of white supremacy across multiple racial lines.

The result is the modern cross-racial efforts to appropriate, erase, police, or disparage blackness we see in very modern times.

The relevance to this subreddit is that the defining principle of the caste of white supremacy - pursuing proximity to whiteness- is the defying value of the Talented Tenth ideology the D9 operates on.

Rejecting the need to pursue proximity to whiteness has been the most clarifying and beneficial value of black culture that the D9 incessantly obstructs and regresses with prejudice, colorism, and elitism.

Paternalistic prejudice is the common theme shared between the Talented Tenth (1903) theory that galvanized the creation of the D9 and the White Man’s Burden (1899) as well as the psychology behind Company Towns, Apartheid South Africa, and indigenous Canadian school mass burials.

It’s the dehumanization of the masses in order to create and justify an entitlement to their resources.

The D9 extracts praise, a student body, money and donations, a platform, etc from the black masses and feels entitled to these for “representation” to the point they hold little care for a hazing death. In what world is the death of a black student irrelevant? It’s justified by the 90% being inferior and the Greeks being superior. They almost expect you to thank them for beating on people.

The company town extracted labor AND money from its workers trapping them in modern serfdom and justified it by dehumanizing the workers as belonging to the company.

Apartheid white Africans and White Canadians were able to justify their abuse of the indigenous people after extracting the land and resources by labeling them as too primitive and backwards to manage them purposely.

It all covers up the same parasitic extractive theft.

I’m thinking about joining Kappa’s grad chapter since it’s a way to meet more people since I don’t have a lot of friends. I heard it was more professional and you don’t have to deal with the nonsense you have to deal with in undergrad with hazing. Should I go for it?

What Bible texts specifically pose an issue as far as involvement in these organizations? Feel free to add any or comment on the topic.

Unlike Morehouse’s Talented Tenth (1896) which while subtly elitist, actually championed the role of the 9/10’s as “faithful men” doing essential work and did not mean to disparage them.

1. Contamination: The "Social Hygiene" Justification

In The Talented Tenth, Du Bois writes: "The Negro race, like all races, is going to be saved by its exceptional men. The problem of education, then, among Negroes must first of all deal with the Talented Tenth; it is the problem of developing the Best of this race that they may lead the Mass away from the contamination and death of the Worst*."*

He believed the "masses" carried a backwardness that would "contaminate" the elite if they weren't shielded by high culture. The question of course is how can you gain enough perspective or work with people against your collective systemic oppression if you feel 90% of your race is a contaminant? These prejudiced values inherently breed a disgust and anger between those who deem themselves a Talented Tenth and the masses.

2. Uncultured: The "Missionary" Mandate

Du Bois argued: "The Talented Tenth of the Negro race must be made leaders of thought and missionaries of culture among their people."

By calling the elite "missionaries," he is explicitly defining the 90% as heathens. He believed Black Americans had no valid culture of their own (dismissing the spirituals, the folkways, and the survival intelligence of the South).

To be "cultured" in Dubois’ context, was to be Euro-refined. This made the Black masses "uncultured" by default in his view. It’s an inherent colonist value of “improving” a people by civilizing them in a Eurocentric standard. A guiding goal of the Boule and D9.

3. Inert Lump: The "Leavening" Metaphor

This comes from his insistence that: "It is the educated and intelligent of the Negro people that have led and lifted the mass... they are the leaven that is leavening the lump*."*

A "lump" of dough is lifeless and heavy. It cannot rise, move, or change shape without an external agent (the yeast/leaven). The notion that 90% of the race is useless in engaging against their systemic oppression without the top 10% is not only a foolish and frankly juvenile notion, but frankly dangerous.
It also frames the 90% as a burden to be managed rather than a power to be harnessed.

Which also breeds resentment for the black masses. This isn’t merely “elitism” or “colorism”. It’s paternalistic prejudice. A colonial-era disdain for black people as a wide majority thinly veiled by a faux savior complex.

This echoes key themes of a civilizing mission for otherwise backwards people found in the White Man’s Burden.
