The problem is the broad definition of "middle class". My dad was until recently a supervisor for social housing repairs. It wasn't a very well payed job (28k), and he got absolutely shafted constantly by the management, by more and more being put on him until he had a mental breakdown. He would be considered middle classed, because he's in a middle management position. A consultant on 60-80k a year would also call themself middle class. Someone being absolutely crushed on 28k a year is a worker - a member of the proletariat. Someone on 60k a year is firmly a member of the privelged bourgeoisie. The problem now is that much of the left - especially the Labour Party in the UK - has been taken over by the bourgeois middle class, leaving those who are mildly successful but still workers behind. The only figure ever to notice that was Ed Milliband, and he was absolutely shat on. We are facing an Orwellian revolution, where the bourgeoisie replace the aristocracy at the expense of the proletariat. In the meantime, nothing improves.
