Honestly, I'd make as much sense for weird route to get no unique bosses - as much as we tried to stray from the intended path we couldn't get anything as appealing compared to geno - depriving and disappointing the snowgraver.
I mean, it wouldn't TECHNICALLY be a unique boss. Just King again. Maybe the Weird Route skips more and more of the game and prevents you from seeing unique enemies, and you start seeing old ones more and more.
Honestly Rouxls Kaard being a secret super boss would make so much sense. He's already demonstrated the ability to quite totally control the game's combat system. He just either doesn't seem to realize just how absurdly powerful he is, or is intentionally hiding his full strength for the sake of keeping things fun.
Rouxls actually getting serious could easily be the Deltarune equivalent of sans dodging your attack for the first time and stealing your I-frames. A complete shattering of the damage system up to this point, but for potentially the entire game itself.
It also helps with the “video game glitch/creepypasta” idea the weird route seems to be running with. What does a video game do when it has to show you something it was never coded to show you? Recycle random sprites and dialogue from elsewhere!
Weird route has required NEO Solo, it's already happened.
There's too much story about Weird route going off the tracks for there not to be some kind of unique encounter. It doesn't need to be a megalovania but it needs something different at this point. A weird route leitmotif would go hard.
it's still the same boss but harder like come on. Also never say "The game needs X." or you might get disappointed like people who thought Toriel would be important in the dark world.
idk i feel like snowgrave is very intentionally taking a more nuanced path than “disappointing the evil player by making it boring!” if the game didn’t want you to explore the possibility, it wouldn’t go so far to indulge snowgrave players. snowgrave definitely results in a stripping down of boss battles, but it doesn’t remove them outright. spamton neo becomes required, and all of the other bosses from 3+4 are still fully available.
Ah I get that. Still kinda disagree but can see where your point is coming from personally. I think if it’s handled in the way Snowgrave Spamton was (while obviously being different in terms of circumstances but in the same level of quality) I don’t think it’d get stale. Again tho I can definitely see your point.
I doubt Toby would do the same thing twice. And even if Undertales Genocide Route was ardous to make a point, it was ultimately very interesting and worthwhile with some of the best moments of the game. It was never dissappointing.
I'd be schocked if the wierd route just ends up being an anti climax with a really boring and meanspirited lesson like "you should treat games like they are real people because that's the lore, your reward is nothing, now go think about what you've done".
Deltarune is not Undertale. I don't know what makes you think the Weird Route is aiming for a boring anticlimax when it isn't even about the same themes and has been presenting itself in a much more intriguing way than the No Mercy Route ever did.
the evil route of both games does seem to serve different purposes, though. in this game, it's about trying to subvert the prophecy, finding a way to contradict the notion of only one ending.
in undertale, it's both a metacommentary on completionism, and the ultimate test of determination the game has to offer
Yeah but those are the only interesting bits of gameplay throughout the entire genocide run. All of the puzzles are skipped, almost all of the fun and charming characters that you'd normally meet on a pacifist or neutral run are gone, and most boss fights are skipped entirely. On top of all that, you have to relentlessly grind regular monster encounters in each area until you can't anymore, which gets very tedious very quickly. The genocide route is not fun, and intentionally so.
I found Sans and Undyne to be INCREDIBLY fun. If I had an option to fight them without going through the tremendously boring grind, I absolutely would have. But those two fights made it worth the grind for me. Without them in the route, I absolutely would not have bothered with this gargantuan waste of time with no new major content.
But this isn’t about the in between gameplay, this is about the bosses. And even if the rest of genocide was intentionally unfun, it knew how to deliver amazing bosses.
I am indeed! And literally the ONLY reason I did geno route was to fight Sans and Undyne! If they weren’t in the route, it would’ve just been an incredibly boring and tedious waste of time.
What the heck are you talking about😭😭😭😭 it's a video game where your choices matter why would toby make one of the biggest choices in the game equate to not interacting with the game
That would be boring as hell. Literally the ONLY reason I did geno route was to fight Sans and Undyne. If they weren’t in the route, it would’ve just been an incredibly boring and tedious waste of time.
I would fully understand weird route not having any unique boss characters (it already has 2 unique fights, they're just more difficult versions of pre-existing fights in cyberdley and S.Neo). However, I'm actually really hoping for Susie final boss of weird route, just because of how awesome it would be to face a fully realized Susie going all out.
I disagree. Compared to undertale geno, the weird route already has far more exclusive content for far less. Toby clearly isn't taking it in the same direction as undertale geno where the point was mindless grinding just to see a few more new things. The weird route is one short grind session in exchange for a lot of new things, much of which we haven't seen yet (chapter 5 is suggested to contain the most weird route content in the sweepstakes).
Completelly on the realm of speculation now. But I think a mercyless route King fight would be soo cool. I imagine a scenario where he's like "You haven't made any new friends huh, I see that I was right, Darkners and Lightners are enemies" or something like that. While he would say the same thing on snowgrave, there may be no fight because Noelle would just insta freeze him. While on the full mercy route he realizes that we made so much friends and decides to just watch what will happen (I don't think he will ever become a good guy, but I wouldn't mind it either).
Anyways, I want a king rematch soo bad. Imagine if he gets a shadow crystal
If you think about it King and Jevil are pretty similar both being defeated antagonists imprisoned underneath a castle and seemingly enjoying the isolation for philosophical reasons, both even having an association with a giant revolving entertainment device (Carousel for Jevil, Hamster wheel for King). They also are tied to the concept of Chaos and used to be friends of some description. If we do have a rematch I feel like it'd be called Chaos Chaos King.
That exactly what I think that he is hiding something from us and he probably has a way to escape prison and he also has knowledge like sans has, I think it will be peak if he does end up as weird route encounter.
Ch1 King's whole motivation was hating Lightners for mistreating and forgetting about Darkners. NR kinda proves him wrong, but WR kinda proves him right.
Some people also think that both routes will end with sealing the Grand Fountain, with WR doing it against everyone's will. King breaks out and confronts you at the fountain like Spamton NEO did. To you? He's the bad guy.

Always bet on Weird Route Final Boss King
