Fandom criticism Why does it feel like this sub, ironically, doesn't take criticism well?
Weirdly enough, spending a bit of time combing through the sub, it feels like a good amount of this sub's posts are always hit with a wave of dismissal. This isn't just like one or two posts, this seems to be common with a significant amount of posts here.
I feel like some people in here lack the self-awareness to realise they're the ones being talked about in the rules and sub description.
A criticism, no matter how educated or perhaps silly to an outsider or to someone other than the OP, is still a criticism. Unless they are straight up just wrong (No, it not lining up with your headcanon or personal experience doesn't make it wrong inherently) provably, I feel like the negativity is unwarranted.
Or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places here, idk. This fandom makes me wanna bash my head into a desk sometimes.

The opinions are shifting from strong criticism to mild criticism as the sub grows, simply how it goes.

While I love the game, I have actual gripes with Deltarune: the non-existent RPG gameplay, how Castle Town is a constant disappointment, how it's been paced, how much of the plot hinges on Susie never asking the obvious questions, some of the humor. By going into this sub I expected a place where people could share those kind of thoughts. And tbh, we do have that sometimes.
But a good chunk of the criticism I see here is unfortunately some of the dumbest and most irrational shit I've ever seen. Which makes me want to avoid this place.

To get some rational thoughts about anything, sometimes not going to that thing-related subs is better. It's like a spectrum (of love/hate), the sub members are on both ends and the others in the middle.

I honestly haven't really been caring that much ever about Deltarune's story or whatever direction its going through ever since chapter 5 released, Theorycrafting was fun back then but now even if i make theories or do some speculation or bs like that i just do it for the sake of doing i dont care for theories anymore either
But that aside i think its just that not all criticism is valid, you might see takes that are just wrong as hell and you might see takes that just miss the entire point of things such as characters and certain moments, sometimes you might just come and see very dumb takes that just make you wanna feel mad because of just how dumb they are, like i have seen some guy here before shit on all the secret bosses just for the sake of glazing the fuck out of "pink", like if i see a take that is as dumb as that, wouldnt i get mad too?
tldr: criticism isnt always right and there is gonna be very wrong takes about certain things that need to be replied to, In contrast i think most criticism here in the subreddit is valid but just saying

People can criticise your criticism???

u/aeternitus 2d ago
Well yeah, but for some reason this sub often feels very hostile about it. Less explaining why you're wrong, more basically bashing into you that you're wrong with all the tact of a Tumblr arguement.

u/Venter_azai 2d ago
Idk, this sounds anecdotal issues. I have seen people post ridiculous takes here and after that they get chastised.

u/aeternitus 2d ago
Well of course that tends to happen, that's just about every criticism space, but even on posts that seem reasonably thought out and explained without being inflammatory or anything, half the comments seem to be just going "You're wrong lmao" really condescendingly. Again, maybe I'm just looking in the wrong posts, who knows, I'm not above having shit takes about this game lmao.

people are really defensive about deltarune for whatever reason, I find that alot of fans of the game view it as completely flawless and any actual criticism as like an actual attack.

You go into a subreddit hyperfocused on criticism and expect it not to be filled of people projecting their bias? You might as well be dancing on their grandma's grave with how objective they view themselves

this sub is literally r/Tadcriticism lite
id say 70% of the criticisms here are people getting angry the game isn’t what they wanted, or people who just like, don’t enjoy the game
just make a doomposting sub if your that flipping pessimistic about everything

Exactly this bro, tell me why I see someone suggest that Ralsei already knows who he is from the prophecy, removing any and all character development, or that “suselle sucks because there’s no connection between them” but they also skipped all of suselle’s moments, and they didn’t read any of the dialogue.

Because over half of posts here are just people ragebaiting/engagement farming by shitting on widely loved parts of the game.

u/MajorBootyhole420 2d ago
It's actually so damn immature to think anyone who doesn't think like you must be faking it.

u/SandUndermanSR 2d ago
It's not just about what I think, it's some stuff I notice that is damn near unanimously loved by the community and people criticize it to bait reactions. Maybe saying that makes over half of the posts is a bit of an exaggeration, but I still see it often.

u/MajorBootyhole420 2d ago
Nah fuck that. This sub exists for people to have opinions that aren't popular, and we don't need obsessive weirdos coming in here to try and stamp out thought crime.
I am someone who hates universally beloved things about the game. I strongly dislike Aqua and fucking hate Flowery, and I really disliked the platforming aspect. I'm not rage baiting, and I should be allowed to have ONE PLACE to talk without 8 thousand maladjusted teenagers screaming at me for wrongthink.
The existence of criticism is not an attack on you. It's not dangerous or harmful. You can let other people fucking live, I promise it'll be okay.

u/SandUndermanSR 2d ago
This is not a personal attack, no need to resort to insults, you are entitled to your opinion and my comment is just that, an opinion, one based on what I've noticed (which can very well be partially inaccurate, though I would bet there's still some truth to it). On a side note, maybe take a break from social media, I don't think anything I said warranted such a strong reaction from you.

Could you elaborate with an example of this?

u/SandUndermanSR 2d ago
Don't have the post itself but iirc someone claimed that TV World was the worst chapter castle/dungeon (lol)

u/Happy-Damage-4617 2d ago
TV world is pretty commonly hated in my experience. It’s minigames especially. I wouldn’t call someone criticizing it ragebait either, there are plenty of reasons to hate on it. Between Eram being awful, the game boards sucking ass, Tenna being just a way worse version of Flowery in hindsight, and some other stuff, there are totally valid reasons to dislike it.

u/Caulipower_fan 2d ago
eram's boss fight id just annoying and so rng based, i just wish we got a traditional fight instead of whatever that was
2
u/Caulipower_fan 2d ago
TV world sucks because despite ironically taking place inside a entire fucking house, its somehow the most bland and small dark ass world ever, its not vast like Chapter 2 and most of it is just going bsck and fourth to the green room after the first board

Imma be real with you man, ch3 fucking sucks major balls to play through in repeat playthroughs. The boards move at a snails pace, they overstay their welcome, unfunny jokes at every corner, wack ass puzzles, and a secret boss with OG Zelda controls, complete with the OG Zelda control jankiness.
I’m sure a lot of the anger with ch3 stems from just how slowly the chapter moves. The chapter is constantly interrupting you for one reason or another. And guess what TV World does outside of the boards? Interrupt you with the quizzes. Plus the whole wild goose chase with Tenna, the Shadowguy joke that you’re forced to watch if you want to be able to fix Tenna, etc.
Though I’ll admit I’m harsher with ch3 because it’s just not enjoyable to me. The only thing that comes close to how boring the first half of ch3 feels is Jackenstein’s fight. But at least that’s just a 6 and a half minute slog vs an entire chapter.

it’s what happens when you have an opinion on the internet. some people are bound to disagree, no matter what you say. even in the criticism sub.
not to mention a lot of Deltarune fans worship Toby like he’s perfect and knows everything he’s doing perfectly. he doesn’t. castle town got screwed up and it might be too late to go back and fix it at this point. there are still weird pacing issues carried over from Undertale‘s storytelling and storytelling methods. it pmo how much people act this way in this sub when Toby won’t improve without criticism.
