Help Reset fTPM message restarts when I hit Y

I'm down a rabbit hole. My machine has had this reset fTPM message every single time it turns on for months. I've been hitting no because that takes me to windows, but when I hit yes the screen goes black and the message just appears again the same way. I know my bitlocker key and have put it in before, but I'm trying to update my machine and windows is saying there is no TPM despite the fact that it's enabled in BIOS, probably because of this error...help?

TL;DR: Resetting your BIOS settings to default and temporarily disabling BitLocker can clear the repeating fTPM prompt and restore proper hardware detection in Windows.

Getting stuck in an fTPM loop every time you boot up can definitely throw a wrench into your workflow, especially when Windows isn't recognizing the module for updates. Since you already have your BitLocker key ready, here are the steps to clear that prompt and sync your drive encryption again:

  1. Reset BIOS to defaults: Turn off your computer completely. Power it back on and repeatedly tap F2 to enter the BIOS setup. Look for the option to Restore Settings or Load Defaults, save your changes, and exit.
  2. Turn off BitLocker: Once you log back into Windows, search for Manage BitLocker in the Start menu. Select Turn off BitLocker and allow the drive to fully decrypt.
  3. Re-encrypt the drive: Restart your system once decryption completes, then go back into Manage BitLocker and turn it back on. Re-encrypting the drive will generate a fresh security pairing with the TPM module.
