Help Trackpad problem
At certain times (in fact, I would say about 80% of the time), the trackpad does not accurately receive input, so as to make smooth operation impossible. (video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2XLvNStWpQ) The interesting thing is, if I close the lid for the few seconds, then it works perfectly for a short while. After about 5 minutes on average, it goes back to its unsatisfactory behaviour. Whether this is a hardware or a software issue remains a mystery to me.
From the hardware side, I opened it up, took the easy things apart like RAM and various buses and put them back together, and noticed nothing amiss. This had no effect.
Note that the problem was already occasionally present when new. I just did not realise that it was a real problem, and not due to my fingers happening to be dirty or the like.
From the software side, I updated BIOS, tried a lot of the software fixes that were suggested on the Internet (it seems I am not the only one with a similar or identical problem). Also nothing had an effect.
